  • We know fuel prices are out of control and we are all feeling the pinch. We’ve heard fuel and oil additives can help, but is it true? Hot Shot’s Secret joins us today to tell us what they’ve found through testing and development. How much can you really get in mpg and does it help other parts of the truck?

I use Archoil 9100 with every oil change (5,000 miles) and their fuel treatment at each fill up in my 2002 7.3 PS and I can’t find any increase in power or MPG, but I had to finally lift the engine out to change my leaking oil pan and I changed out my glow plugs at the same time. Journals and bearings looked like new and I pulled an injector on each bank and found no issues. That’s 500,000 plus miles with no real issues except for some of the usual 7.3 suspects, water pumps, belts, etc. Proper maintenance with quality additives will save you from huge repair costs in the long run.

I have used the stiction eliminator and the fuel additive FOR YEARS and in my opinion and experience it was waisted money it doesn’t work I have spent thousands of dollars a year also with recipes to back this up and to keep it short and simple I did a inframe at a caterpillar dealer on a cat c13 I have pictures and paper work also to back this up and it DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING my injector tips were black with normal wear the wear was normal no different no better and my fuel economy was pulled from ECM and has been consistent since I have had the truck for 10 years so MPG also did not change like they claim …I tell everyone from experience GOOD OIL and REGULAR OIL CHANGES that’s it that’s all that is needed !!!! Non of the products from hot shot secret contributed to my engine running any better at 950 thousand miles when I did my overhaul also didn’t look any better then any other engine that has been overhauled this last statement came from the gentleman that has been at Carolina cat for 27 year’s who did my overhaul so yeah supper disappointed to find out several years later ..

Hot Shot’s Secret makes specific additives for use in gasoline engines. The Diesel Extreme and Every Day Treatment (EDT) products are made specifically for use only in Diesel engines. Our family has tried both of these Diesel treatments in our Diesel John Deere tractors and our family’s Mercedes Sprinter, and they have improved power, quieted the Diesel injector clatter, and removed water from the tanks. The mileage numbers have improved about 15%.

This was a very interesting pod cast. I heard a lot of great things; better economy, longevity do due to lubricity and anti-gelling. Great things for the engine and fuel system. I didn't hear anything about when this burns off in the combustion process.
Do Hot Shots have any data from tests with emission systems? I would really hate to plug up my diesel particulate filter after using 300 gallons of fuel. Have they worked closely with any particular tuners to see if any difference is see over a long period? (Say 10K miles)

As my review stated: I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie w/5.7 and 84,000 miles on it. I added the Gasoline Extreme to the fuel. On average for the last 5 years, I have only been able to average 13 mpg or less. Lately on average 12 mpg. On the highway I would be lucky to get 16 to 17 on level ground. After adding the supplement, my average fuel economy is now 15+ mpg and I can get 21-22 mpg on the highway. This is the first fuel additive that has actually had results that I could see. More power also, smoother running. I am impressed. Also, I have a Kioti tractor that has always had very loud injectors. Banging or popping sound. I added the diesel fuel additive and the LX4 fuel lubricant. It stopped that noise immediately. And last, we added the fuel treatment to a 2017 Jetta SEL with 64,000 miles. Highway mpg has increased. Cruising we are getting +/-34 mpg where at best we were getting 30-31. We're sold.

I feel the best time to add Diesel or Gasoline additives is right before refueling, so that the treatments get more fully blended with the incoming Diesel or Gasoline. This especially helps to blend the additives with any existing water in your fuel tank, as water sinks to the bottom of the tank. Refueling helps to distribute additives throughout not only the existing fuel in the tank, but also throughout the incoming fuel as well. Hope this is helpful.

I am a first time diesel owner and I am currently researching &modifying my 2008 f250 6.4 for longevity. It only has 28k miles one it and mine is not a daily driver as I have many cars and other trucks for my farm. This truck is primarily to haul my large 7k lb boat and small 3k lb rv. My question is will these products help me get longevity from my dreaded 6.4. I take the truck out every two weeks to keep everything running normally for an hour trip to the local lake and back. Which I am thinking I need the stabilizer for the fuel. Is that the same as the bottle you referenced on the left of the desk that takes 1oz at fill up? Also I have found from the hours I’ve spent learning about that 6.4 engine that not all products such as the Lucas oil stabilizer is not good for or should be used in the 6.4 power stroke. Any thoughts will help. As I am a new diesel owner and would love to use these products in my new to me right now… thank you in advance.

It’s all a sales trip to get you to give them your money for something that does very little to your fuel and if you want to add something to your fuel just put a quart of motor oil in your fuel tank the fill your tank up .

IMHO, delete EGR and DEF system, leave the DOC (Cat converter) intact. My Tuned Ecodiesel regens around every 700 miles and no exhaust stink. My brother did the total delete on his Powerstroke and it stinks to high heaven. Ram seems to have a good cat converter/soot filter.

And never never ever buy fuel from a place that has above ground storage it sweats and condenses water in that steel tank and diesel exspands on hot summer days so you pay more for less fuel .

OMG. MPG does not equal horsepower. If you want better fuel economy, you can get it for free. Just keep your right foot from pressing down so hard on the gas pedal. I find it interesting that none of these "additive" companies have actual control vehicle lab tests proving their claims of improved fuel economy.
