I used to rock this tape on my Walkman when I was a teenager in the 80s. All these years later, the music still hits just as hard.

The Final Countdown album was a monster album here in Europe in 86. Multiple hit singles from that album alone, The Final Countdown, Carrie, Cherokee, Rock The Night, Time Has Come. The whole album is great. Followed by my personal favorite "Out Of This World" album, with Superstitious and Open Your Heart.
Still remember the day i bought the Final Countdown LP in 86, coming home from school and putting the album on the turntable and listening for the first time.

Proud Swede over here! This song is in fact from the same album as The Final Countdown, titled the same. But they have SOO many banger albums. Dive into them if you like ‘em so far. Promise you won’t be disappointed

'The Final Countdown' was released in 1986 and Europe became Sweden's biggest rock stars for a moment... Most of their biggest songs came from this album; it sold 3 million copies in the US... MTV played the videos for 'The final countdown'... 'Rock the night'... 'Cherokee' ... and 'Carrie'... The line-up for the record was: Joey Tempest (vocals), John Norum (guitar), John Leven (bass), Mic Michaeli (keyboards) and Ian Haughland (drums)... Unfortunately, guitarist John Norum (who had founded Europe w/ Joey Tempest) did not like the commercial direction of the album, and he quit the band... Kee Marcello (guitar) joined and did the '86/'87 world tour.
Europe had 2 albums before in Sweden - 'Europe' (1983) and 'Wings of tomorrow' (1984) ... and had built a following before they were signed internationally... Some of their early songs were: 'Open your heart' (original version)... 'Seven doors hotel'... 'Scream of anger'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
The problem was after 'The Final Countdown' was a huge hit, Europe changed guitarists and could not follow up w/ 'Final countdown Pt. 2'...
Europe released the album 'Out of this world' in 1988, and it sold 1 million copies, but none of the singles had the same impact... 'Sign of the times'... 'Superstitious'... 'More than meets the eye'...🔥🔥🤘🤘
Unlike 'The Final Countdown'... this record was not a glossy, arena rock record... Europe was also internally in turmoil at the time by 1990.
Europe regrouped w/ Ratt producer Beau Hill and recorded and released 'Prisoners in Paradise' in 1991... it came too late. Nirvana and Pearl Jam began to dominate radio and MTV by 1992, and Europe was out of fashion in the 90's as an 80's 'hair band'... The record sold poorly, and Europe split up by 1992.
Europe finally reunited w/ John Norum (guitar) returning to the band (same line-up as 'Final countdown'), releasing 'Start in the dark' in 2004... but they decided to change their sound away from their 80's style arena rock... That was why later albums did not have any lasting impact. Europe still persisted though... their last album was 'Walk the Earth' (2017) and Europe still tours and is working on a new album.

Once you get past The Final Countdown, Europe is a fantastic band. John Norum is killer on guitar. And Joey Tempest is a fantastic singer.

@RepacksPrograms Haha, here in Sweden, he is known as our best guitarist. The guy everyone has heard of. Well, I guess some would say Yngwie Malmsteen, but he is more of an aquired taste.

Written by Joey Tempest. He is the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. John Norum is on lead guitar. But he quit. Kee Marcello is in the video and was on tour for that album.
Europe was part of the 80s hard rock and heavy metal scene. Although Europe broke up, it did reunite with John Norum returning as Kee Marcello is no longer with Europe. Now, they are on a world tour to celebrate 40 years of its existence.
Suggested music video: Europe performs Carrie.

You must check old school Europe from their first albums. Check Scream of Anger, Seven Doors Hotel and In the Future to Come.. There are amazing recent live performances from them. Joey Tempest is the vocals, John Norum is the main lead guitarist. Also their newer stuff is quite good where you can feel well their influences such as UFO and Deep Purple. Check the albums Walk the Earth and War of Kings.

Maybe not the most well known but I really like "Seventh Sign".
But you should check out the videos if there is one. Both "Rock the Night" and "Final Countdown" for example has official videos on youtube.
They have a lot of good songs. "Cherokee", "Ready Or Not", "Stormwind", "On Broken Wings"..
