    doble-click for doing repetitive push pull and inset ( just like SketchUp) it could be very nice feature
    another thing could be borrowed from SU is its groups and components, yes I know that Rhino has blocks ... but managing components in SU is much easier.
    ability to open and close groups by DoubleClick is another SketchUp feature that could be here in rhino .
    these features could attract lots of SketchUp users to Rhino

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  ปีที่แล้ว

      set up push/pull on a hot key or alias and then right click or space bar to repeat the last command. Not quite as immediate as a double click, but still faster then invoking it each time.

      Not only is it more powerful than SketchUp by integrating with Rhino's original capabilities --
      There are other benefits to someone who is not already trailed on the "sticky geometry" concept. Simply put: Rhino modeling works as it does in conventional 3D modeling tools where you do not have sticky geometry, yet you can "MergeAllCoplanarFaces" (yielding sticky geometry) any time you like.

    These are a very useful set of commands. I have a question though, why not integrate the push pull command into the gumball extrude itself? that would make the process faster instead of having to enter the command every time. as an architect, it would be much more easier and faster to experiment with forms that way.

    • @rajendrameena150

      Yes I agree, that's exactly 3ds max is trying to do

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      it's a topic of much internal debate. We have decided to keep our gumball simple as opposed to letting it grow into a mega feature beast. If this is the right decision only our users can tell us.

    • @InspiredScience
      @InspiredScience ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Rhinoceros3d - Objectively, there is no answer to this question because both (simplicity-vs-features) have nearly equal trade-off's
      *However..* This (and SketchUp marketshare) is precisely why you should allow a mode of "Quick Massing" where you offer an alternative look/purpose of the gumball designed for quick push/pull massing along with some other slight modifications while in that mode.
      The logic behind two separate approaches is identical to two separate cplane modes; you can't change the original; it's important to keep. However, you can add a new option where it allows auto-cplane and return to the former.
      In short, you have two different modes of 3D modeling. One is quick/simple (emphasize:quick *over* robust) and therefore, the only way to truly make everyone happy is to offer a "mode" toggle between the two modes. Some people, primarily SketchUp and BIM users that only prototype in massing -- may be more apt to switch to Rhino and ... may rarely ever go outside of this mode.
      If this doesn't make sense, please reply so that I can clarify further ... and thanks for the great v8 features & video!

    • @steair
      @steair ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@InspiredScience That would be the ideal solution to many debates... Just add some options and let the user decide.
      To be fair, you can already do A LOT of these things in Rhino 7 using Gumball Extrude and then cleanup the surfaces with MergeAllCoplanarFaces... so why not add an option to do that with the Gumball extrude? The main advantage of the Push-Pull command seems to be the region recognition feature which looks very nice.

    Enjoyed your lesson. I have a couple of questions. Where can I get wood materials for the renderer. I started with R5 and am evaluating Rhino 8 to see if I want to upgrade from 7. I've often wanted wood material and have sometimes created my own with a jpg picture. When I got to load materials from the library there are wood types listed but nothing gets loaded. The other question is when you were placing things by snapping when you are using gumball is that a gumball setting? Is there a video you know of talking specifically about gumball. I use it a lot but am sure there are things about it that I don't know.

    But all the push pull geometry is connected which we somwtimes want to split after doing push pull so their should be a quick way to seperate the geometry quickly just like boxcutter in blender does.
