  • There are different forms of chants or oral poetry peculiar to the people of Yorùbá. Some of them are either known with a ceremony or traditional religion.
Yorùbá oral literature known with traditional religion
    Ìyẹ̀rẹ̀ Ifá
    Ìjálá
    Ẹ̀sà/Iwì Egúngún
    Sàngọ́ Pípè
    Ọya Pípè
    Èṣù Pípè
    Orin Orò
For example, Iwì Egúngún reveals the belief of Yorùbá people on resurrection in relation to the cult of masquerade. The orò song is related to the worship of orò which is a deity for settlement reformation and betterment.
In this video, we present Daniel Akanbi, the one popularly known as Ajípẹ̀ṣà (and that means "the one who wakes up in the morning to chant") with the chant or poetry known with masquerade in Yorùbá native art and entertainment.

They are different from each other. They are characterized with distinct elements, especially in their voice tone.
