Loving the classic fantasy theme going on right from the start. Well impressed with the fight scenes, like pure magic based fight scenes aren't easy, but that looked fantastic. Also the tension at the end when he struggled with his decision and we got that open end-like cut, damn, totally got me haha! Awesome work!
That feeling of power, to truly have it and to be able to control and move - I really felt like this shortfilm made me see it. Great work ! I'm aspiring to also make fantasy short films, so this is truly inspiring.
Nice one. I love it when people use their creative energy and put all their effort even in the shortest of "films". Your VFX-breakdown on reddit brought me here. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic short. Good acting, especially from your MC, impressive VFX and shots. My only critique is I feel the dialogue could have been a tad louder for more dramatic effect but overall a really phenomenal job. I could see this airing on SyFy and I mean that in the best way.
the thief seems like the villain of the story... bald guy didn't seem that evil. he could of had his own reasons for wanting power like protecting his sister or something -- the thief also came at him with a pretty lethal weapon, the sword. >.> some more backstory on both might help. I mean leaving that guy in a tree was pretty coldblooded, and did he just kill him when he pushed him in further? ....still, I think the affects and the acting were brilliant!... Thanks!!! *my precious* lol. :3
Thank you. Yeah it's a surprising little entry level camera, but it's still mainly all in the composition and lenses rather than what camera you're using.
@@LiamJMWilson I'm a film student who still got a lot to learn. I'm actually using m50 as well and knowing what it can do with right lenses, editing, and creative vision after watching Warlock made me want to explore this camera more. i checked your other film and I enjoyed watching it a lot. Can't wait to see your upcoming works!
got a new subscriber and follower here. Great work of art here. I read in reddit that you used canon m50 and some old school lenses for this. This is a gem. keep up the great work, brother.
Thanks so much man! Yep all done with a low budget and that little mirrorless camera. The vintage lenses do give a great image, I was really looking for a vintage kinda look to this to fit the medieval genre.
@@LiamJMWilson Wow. just wow. I also am a proud owner of M50 and I must say, no matter what setup I do i can't even get close to what you did in this Short film. Now, I must look for the same lens you used. I guess that's where I'll start 😅
Well no matter the camera, composition is king, that is what will give you a pleasing image. But these lenses I used are the Pentacon 50mm f1.8 and the Miranda 24mm f2.8.
That is a digital double done in Maya. That was just a manually animated human figure with cloth simulation for the cloak which definitely helps sell it more. I went into some more detail on that effect in the making of video.
1. WEAR THE TALISMAN AGAINST YOUR SKIN UNDER PLATE MAIL (first guy) 2. Make some mind control potion you take ahead of time, that automatically activates once the Talisman is in your possession, to ensure you do the thing (second guy) 3. Get some Magical Zit Cream (first guy, come on unlimited power and no healing abilities?) (first guy) 4. IF YOUR FIREBALLS DON'T BREAK HIS SHIELD, TRY A DIFFERENT STRATEGY! Impaling tree branches! Acid jizz on his feet! You're a Dark Wizard, enslave some squirrels!
First rule of magic: all of your power lies within yourself. You may use talismans to direct that power, but as soon as you believe the talisman is the source of your power, you become its slave. Then it must be destroyed ... or this will happen, over and over and over again. Do not mistake poetry for reality. It may be the best way to talk about reality, but reality is always beyond language, and you have to remember that. The talisman is a symbol (i.e., language). The actual power comes from within you. Never make yourself a slave to your symbols.

Great short film. Tension and mystery right from the opening shots.
Thanks so much! I'm happy to hear it came out as I intended. :)

@@LiamJMWilson Yes Liam your writing was done superbly and the effects were great 👌🏾
Great work! Really impressive VFX, especially as a nearly one man post production crew. Loved the BTS videos too!
Thanks so much! Yeah it certainly was a massive undertaking. Glad to hear you liked the behind the scenes stuff too.
This is so good, I would love a part 2!
Entertaining & Fun!

My son kicked the bald guy's arse. That was a shock, didn't know he was in this.

Ooh nice, an interesting perspective, I'm glad it made you think. I did want both sides to feel morally blurred. And thanks for the kind words.
wow this is so well done! i'm so amazed with this after knowing that you used Canon EOS M50.

really enjoyed this great work and the ending wants me wanting more :D
these effects are amazing, great job!

@@LiamJMWilson how did you learn to do the guy flying through the air? I've always wanted to try and do a shot like that.

Ну ты и завернул, чувак)
Yaaasssss
Frodo had Sam and Gollum...lololol♡♡♡♡
This was awesome! Is there a BTS video?
🔥⚡🧙♂️
What special Effekts program Do you use? Looks fantastic
Most of the effects in this were created using Adobe After Effects, with some of the 3D elements being done in Maya.
So how did it actually end, eh? Did he destroy the talisman? Непонятно....
This talisman wouldn't happen to be a ring, would it? 😉
Good
:)🙂
not a warlock at all. a mage at best.
One of the better spell battles I've seen fasho
