Today, Los Angeles mayor, Karen Bass took action to clean up the trash house in the Fairfax district close to Melrose Avenue. Lots of trash was collected for years around the house, which disturbed the neighbors, because of the smell, and the rats in the front yard. The front and backyard were totally filled with trash bags batteries cleaners, empty cans, the day finally came for the city to clean up this place. - บันเทิง
GIV is a better news reporter than the actual news.
Thank God for Good people like Mike!!!
😇
🙏🏻
I agree
The city didn't get involved until a neighbor contacted a local news station. The day after the segment was aired...Boom! The city was on it, after years of ignoring the neighbors complaints. It was cleaned up once after complaints in 2014.
The owner was also found to own a motor home and 2 other cars filled with trash that he kept parked on the streets in the neighborhood.
My husband had a family member that did this. She filled up 1 house and bought a 2nd one and left the first one to start filling up the 2nd house. She also had cats and allowed them to go potty all over the house. She died in the 2nd house and wasn't found until the smell was evident on the outside. Mental illness is horrible.
damn. yes it is indeed.
I have an aunt like this. She filled her first house up so much you physically cannot get into the house. I believe she also turned off the utilities and doesn’t have air conditioning working for it- in FLORIDA!! Not to mention all the bugs and critters they have in FL that have free rein to infest. And it’s been sitting there for decades at this point. When she dies my family already assumes the house is going to have to be demolished. What a waste.
@@CB-nv8bs wow. do you think she is on drugs or just has a problem or both?
no one cares, if it is inside her house, it isn't anyones business. people need to mind their own business.
@@CB-nv8bs who cares? it's her house and if she paid for it, it's none of you alls business. sounds to me like you just waiting for her to die to sell it and get the money.
The on-scene reporter for ABC7 is Sophie Flay, daughter of celebrity chef Bobby Flay. (By the way...as long as you're in a public area with "no reasonable expectation of privacy," and you're not interfering in a police investigation, you can record there. That was settled many years ago by the U.S. Supreme Court.)
Yep!
😇
I watched all of the Hoarders episodes. It's a mental illness, and a lot of Americans suffer from compulsive shopping and the inability to part with things. 💔
Finally someone with empathy for a person that is suffering for sure! Mental illness is such a horrible thing to endure. 😢
husband speaking age 81 I have been in 3 homes in my life that were Hoarder homes. Bags of old mail, stacks of newspapers, junk of
every kind, a small trail from the front door to the kitchen and bedrooms. Stuff piled high, it is really unbelievable how you could live like
that. One of my rental homes with a Boeing Engr. and his wife, had the big bonus room stacked floor to ceiling with boxes of what? A small
path from the man door to the slider to go outside. Seven old cars in the back yard that he said he was working on. I couldn't wait for the
lease to end.
Inspired me to clean my room.....maybe tomorrow.....
lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
It never ceases to amaze me how people do live like that? 🤯
The authorities should never have let it get this bad.
Why in the hell no one pushed the issue. It couldn't have been me. Im an advocate for this kind of behavior
Exactly
No, the home owner should have never let it get so bad.
I@@navimaclifeit was cleaned previously, but he let it go again.
Again, you cannot force someone to do something unless the courts get involved
Obviously, something changed with the occupant, which may or may not be Mr. Gaos. It’s a mental health problem and unlikely to remain in remission despite treatment. It still takes a lot of work to carry all the debris and deposit it in the piles and it doesn’t happen without human effort. I’ve acquired a handful of hoarder houses and would expect the interior to be severely impacted and require all drywall and porous surfaces removed. I give 50/50 (or higher) chance structure will require demolition.
It's a fine line you have to tread Mike. You have every right to video people in public, if they are on a public sidewalk it's fair game. Unfortunately on your part you don't want to create a scene and become a part of the story so sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. That lady, whoever she is, is a self-entitled a-hole, if she's an employee of the govt, she's even worse and way-overstepping her authority. I appreciate all the work you do bringing us the daily-goings-on there in LA-LA-LAND! THANKS!
Mike, please do a follow-up video on this. Thanks for uploading this 👍
Bad memories of NYC sanitation workers strikes with garbage bags piled up. Thank you for showing us this. You don't try to be respectful, YOU ARE VERY RESPECTFUL.
Because the city will make laws to have it out if you have trash in front of your house they can confiscate your house and put the bill onto your property taxes that’s what this is about they want peoples properties and they will get them under law that they make
If the outside is that bad, makes you wonder what is going on inside the home. The person responsible is definitely not well.
Worry about your own house and your own stomach before others you fool
Workers open door: Spotless clean
I should be so rich that I have a home off Melrose that I use to keep my GARBAGE.
He's probably owned that home before they were worth a hell of a lot of money...
@@samholdsworth420 Exactly. Probably since the 80s/90s. Maybe earlier.
GIV said he just rented this place, he is not the owner
@@starseed8087 well then whoever owns it has been there forever... Crazy they would let it get to such a state
@@starseed8087 ok. My point still remains: he’s paying for a second location just to keep his garbage. I should be so rich to be able to RENT a second location to keep my trash.
I’ve been seeing this on the News but this is by far best coverage!! 👍
The Owner of the House should be on Hoarders TV 📺 Show. He Takes The Cake 🍰
Mike always has much more thorough, detailed, straight coverage. It's like you are there in person.
Because it is not news you’ll get from any station it’s programmable in the narrative and anyone that follows the narrative is a fool
Mike, I watched all the LA news coverage about this. They told a little more than you but, hey they have a far greater source of info than the GIV. Honestly Mike, I enjoyed your coverage than all of the TV channels. They focused on the mayor and councilwoman talking and interviewing neighbours. You gave your slant on the news, which made it FAR more interesting than theirs. Great job!!! Thanks Mike
Thank you for all you do Mike. You did a very good report. That lady who told you not to be there was just being a "Karen"...She had no right to try and stifle you. God Bless You.
Ahhh, thanks for editing the comment. :)
Some Oddball ‘people’...
Good Grief.
⚪️
🙄
Well this is just beyond words. Ignore the person who told you to move away from scene. Some people are just chronically miserable.
This is beyond sick and sad. But the saddest thing is most modern consumers, throw away people, generate that much trash also, their's just ends up in the landfills. Consume Less, Give More!
The problem is if they let him move back in he’ll just do it again. Unless they can condemn the house, then he can’t move back in.
It's probably not legally habitable right now... Most hoarder homes get damaged..
You do a better job than all the network news media and should receive all their pay.😂😮Your coverage is organic and the best!! Love you❤️
Really interesting video GiV! As for that lady who told you to stop filming, good that you asked her questions as to who she was, and didn’t just immediately back down.👍 💪 The mayor declaring it’s a health emergency….let’s not give politicians that power ever again.🚫💉😷 Keep up the awesome work work Mike….you’re 100x better than any newscast!❤
It is a health emergency. All sorts of laws were being violated. The government has the right to mitigate a public nuisance.
Too bad the mayor didn't do anything until the news crews came out.
I hope you will go back tomorrow. It's unbelievable that it's taken years for this to finally happen. I hope the tenant will get the mental help he needs so this does not continue. Thank you for sharing!
when i worked at a state entity there was a question always asked: how many administrators did it take to power wash paint off their sidewalk? one employee and 10 administrators to stand around and watch.
Why in the heck would that home be allowed to accumulate that much trash outside? That’s a major health hazard! Wonder what’s inside this garbage dump of a so called home!! 😳 The clean up bill on this is going to be scary! Thanks for covering this Mike!
I'm very familiar with this district. It's near Martel and Melrose. It's a very exclusive and classy corner neighborhood. Complete with *block watch* posters and *pick up after your pet* signage. I've passed by this house many times... and my first thought was the property is either abandoned or due to be demolished. The smell was terrible. Only took since December to clean. Unbelievable.
Mayor says The first she herd of this house... yeah rite! decides to take action a day after its on the local news...
I wonder what the inside of his house looks like.
Probably just as bad as outside he takes the cake 🍰 he should be on Hoarders TV 📺 Show.
Spotlessly clean..
They'll stack stuff to the ceilings. I watched all the Hoarders episodes during the pandemic. Sad.
who cares? it's none of your business
I want to see the "classic cars" in the back. How "classic" are they after having been surrounded by rotting trash for 10 years?
Forget that lady GIV… keep doing what you’re doing.
This never would have happened 30 years ago. This is a nice area, expensive homes. Hoarding is a mental illness.
The best reporter IS GIV!👍🏽😄
Great show Mike! From Beverly Hills stores closing to trash all over the place. Lol. You're always fun to hang with GMan! Never know where you're taking us next! Thanks again Brother!
I agree, Mr. The GIV always has good video
👍
Totally Enjoy!!!
😇
I had a friend who was a hoarder. His back door was about 20 feet from a dumpster and his apt had newspapers stacked to the ceiling. You could hardly walk trough his place.
I've been watching your channel for a few years now.
It reminds me never to move to California. Thanks, G.I.V.
California is so beautiful, it attracts everyone. If I were homeless I would live in Ocean Beach.
Good we’re full and are outlawing transplants
@@henmaidstale not all jurisdictions allow public camping in city limits in California... From what I understand, there's a big difference between Santa Monica and Venice Beach right next door to each other
Yes, Mayor Karen Bass and her team absolutely did, and it didn't take them long to do it 😊🙏🏽👍🏽👏🏽😍🤩!!!! Some people need to educate themselves about the chain-of-command before they start complaining and running their mouths!!! Seriously!!!!
Hoarders always have some treasure mixed in with all the trash. Their problem is they cannot distinguish between what is worth saving and what is not.
Amen!
The neighbors are HAPPY !!!
For now! It will be trash again. He's known for that.
It’s good people are helping and not throwing him in jail!❤
Some people are full of ego/power hungry. When in reality they're powerless. I understand Mike. Why can't people just be nice???????? This guy has to be mentally ill to hoard so much trash. Its sad!!!
The owner should be hauled to court & impose hugh fine 😢😅 beside getting him to pay for all the toxic wastes 🗑 and others plastics cans....thanks GIV for bringing us along this unusual journey that involves cleanings 😮😢
So I take it that "freedom" they taught us about at school was all a lie? I agree that it's disgusting and a hazard, but if it's his property, he should be able to do whatever he wants with it.
@@MysticWolf1223 Not if it impacts the health of the community.
In such an expensive area of a such an expensive city. How is someone able to live like that and also sustain the property or afford to keep it? I work everyday and still couldn't afford a place like that in that area
He should have just moved all his stuff to a public park, the beach, or a sidewalk. Then said he was homeless. Karen Bass wouldn't have done a thing then! "Move inside when you're ready!" is her mantra.
Mike, another great video, thank you. Great reporting on this newsworthy story.
Yeah, the people who have the nerve to approach you to tell you that something that you're doing is disrespectful is to annoying. You can see that you are an adult why are you going to try to "School" Mike on his god given right to be there filming just as everyone else is. That my brother Mike was a Karen. Great video. Sure wish they'd clean up the rest of the city and start by eliminating those Chief positions that you sawall lined up all those "Suits" just watching are a pain. They never lifted a finger and never will.
Mike you should get a drone to get the backyard footage!
Hope I see you tomorrow because I would love to see more tomorrow 👍🇺🇸
This looks like where I live in wales, we have refuse collection every 3 weeks now, we have 4 bins for 23 flats which fill up in one week. Cardiff council should be ashamed of themselves
The amount of energy these people put into building their mountains of garbage is astonishing. We may call these people pigs, but we can never call them lazy.
Busy as a beaver
You can clean and clean and clean. He’ll just be back again throwin garbage in the yard. He needs rehab. Get that mind clean, and the rest will follow.
You are right! I know someone who is a hoarder and a pack rat, and they only cleaned house when people came over to help. I figured it was temporary because I saw how big the problem was. Then they went shopping and filled the home back up quickly after the cleaning. These type of people won't change. I think it's a permanent problem.
Yes, that's exactly what the owner did. It was cleaned previously.
Please do a follow-up!
The house to the left is just over $2 million.... That owner must be happy the city is doing something
Your humor is on point, always puts a smile on my face!
Why are you single while I'm here too
Mr. The GIV always makes me smile 😃.
Because he’s independent self-made man he’s not working for a new station to promote an hour or two for his promoter or handlers or employer
What a sweet young man from Channel 4! Such a beautiful neighborhood. Crazy junk. TY GIV for another fun adventure.
Horrid horrific horrifying
Wow, this crap is beyond
“just comes by..and drops it off” Wtf 😑 😵💫
Thanks Mike for the video. IMO this is a very terrible "hoarding" issue. The one neighbor said it best. It is not about the trash it is a mental issue here. I really hope that the homeowner gets the help he needs or it will continue. I pray for him. You are right Mike, why can't everyone just be nice. Respect each other and respect yourself! Much love
“This is an emergency” 😂 that has been in the works for over ten years, and only after it gets in the news. 😂
GIV 👍🏻👍🏻
I used to watch 'Hoarders" and this reminds me of that show. I remember a lot of the people who did the hoarding had mental and/or physical issues that contributed to the problem. So sad. Great video, Mike. Hope to see the end result, for sure. ❤
& They were distraught if you touched their stuff too.
yes, it was like a crutch to them@@henmaidstale
I cannot believe the city let him get away with that for so long! Congrats to the neighbors for finally getting their air back!
Because the city will make laws to have it out if you have trash in front of your house they can confiscate your house and put the bill onto your property taxes that’s what this is about they want peoples properties and they will get them under law that they make
Some people have mental health issues with hoarding. It's a shame that it's taken this for everyone to get help. It's a deeper issue than the garbage . He's loved there for years. I pray everyone gets the help they need...
If I worked that slow Id be out of business fast. Those city workers were freaking slow as molasses in January 😂
That Celica is a collector car for sure.
Such a cute car 🚗
$80,000 he wants 🤨
I saw that on the news yesterday and my first thought was, the GIV is going to not let this one pass him up I bet. I was right 😅😅. I wonder if the inside of the house is trashed? Highly likely it is. With the GIV on the case it will all come out. 😂 Thanks Mike. Great coverage. Id watch you over any news channel ever.
It will go down as one of the few days , when the city workers , actually did some work …
Maybe they could transfer it all over to Newsoms house.
You know... I see this and I have to wonder - Is this like a self defense mechanism? A yard so nasty that it deters any possible trespasser? Any possible threat?
I have to wonder... Is the man who lives there so frightened he built a fortress of garbage around himself?
Great job GIV - thank you for your reporting.
Neighbours had to deal with this, terrible the smell must be awful 😟😟😖
If you're on public property, you can film whatever/wherever you like, Mike. Thanks for the news!
Damn, I bet you that smells wicked… By the way, great reporting as usual GiV. 🤘
Crazy! Hope you can show us the final result
This is sad that complaints have been going to the city for 10 years
I do make ready as a part time job .. and did a clean up very similar to this. The smell was HORRENDOUS.. So much stuff left behind by the previous tenants, bags of clothes new with tags , boxes of dishes new never opened. Took us 3 days to remove everything and throw it in the dumpsters .. found a PlayStation with some games also brand new . You never know why people do this , but it is unfortunate for them and those around them.
We follow you Mike as you get to the heart of the action. Day in day out. Forget these other people, people know you, people on the street respect you.
I’ve watched the news channel on this, but your take on it all was far more interesting and in-depth. Thanks!
EMS worker here. Try dragging a patient out of these houses! There’s no getting the stretcher in, and the patients can rarely walk and are usually obese.
It’s a nightmare.
Oh boy, that owner is going to get one hefty bill from the city. So incredible the houses surrounding this must be in the 3 million dollar range.
Thanks for the content GiV..👍
OMG - Amazing it ever got to that stage!
It reminds of Hoarders TV 📺 Show.
@@johndicksonkaraoke2554 I've seen it a couple of times. This looks like a really bad case of hoarding.
Yeah, hoarding is a mental illness.
GOT JUNK ! What a great commercial that would be!
Keep filming this !! Let’s see the complete clearing!! Thanks ❤
If I had that house I would appreciate it. A lot
GiV, I love this neighborhood. L.A. is so full of these gems. But I notice so much in the first minute. Look at that lovely older brick home on the corner (which should not have so much ivy growing on it but whatever), then look at the McMansions going in on those tiny lots. Then the McMansions put in 12 ft high solid hedges so there is nothing at all left of the charm and one simply drives through it. The future is far from lovely when it comes to the looks and feel of this area where once neighbors no doubt knew each other. Just food for thought for you as you cruise around the city thinking about what we expats of L.A. here in the Midwest would enjoy 'visiting' with you. I don't think car crashes at midnight are the soul of L.A., but the neighborhoods are, the beaches are, the people are, and that includes the homeless (or home-free if you prefer), and yup, the graffiti towers and the city cleanups and Norms at 3 a.m. Thanks for bringing it all to us all over the world.
the question that needs to be answered: how come it took that long for the house and yard to be in that condition to get it cleaned up?????
Mike - I’d lay odds that the person who asked you to step away from the private conversation was an L.A. County Dept of Health official who failed to properly identify themselves or offer credentials if challenged. They will probably push for an emergency Conservatorship of the person & estate, assign a County Conservator or Pro Fiduciary and restrict further case access. Let’s see what the Sister does, too.
Great Content GIV love the videos, watching from COLD Canada
Should be on the show Hoarders!
So glad you made this fascinating video, Michael! You are always on it! Great job!
What a waste of public funds. I hope the city is able to recoup what they spent cleaning up the property.
The neighbor from hell! This cleanup was long over due!
I bet the inside of the house is just as bad as outside, reminds me of Hoarders TV 📺 Show
Ya it's an election year that's when politicians remember their jobs 😢
An old man that you never see and stays in his house like a hermit you’re the fool I don’t want you for my neighbor
Do you really expect us to spend 20 whole minutes watching trash and trashy stuff at different angles???
You would have to be one hell of a TH-camr to pull that off!
Well good thing you are the number one TH-camr. The Notorious G.I.V.!!!!!
Only for YOU will we watch a video about trash 😂
Your reporting and video are WAY better than what the boring generic info the news shows. I can't even imagine what the inside looks like and the SMELL... 🤢
I was hoping the GIV would give us the scoop…Thank you
Thanks GIV great coverage !😊 Hope this guy gets some mental health counseling . He must be dealing with something too big in his head to sort out 😢
That plot in itself is worth a small treasure...
I don't know the whole story, whose house it is, who pays the rent, etc... But it's incredible that the owners have not done anything about the tenant, as long as he pays, everything is fine...🤯
Yikes hoarding is a real mental disorder, hopefully they accept the offered help . We never know what one is truly going through in life
And the Oscar goes to The German in Venice 🏆
Good Job GIV..I watch and thumbs up all your videos..Thank you for what you do!!
It is disgraceful that mayor and others let this get out of hand. Where the sanitation inspectors or sanitation supervisors? Those officials should be suspended or fired.
It's liberal Los Angeles.. look what they have done with the homeless....
Thank you for sharing this with everyone,I hope you can do a second part for this video
Fits right in with the other situations going on in this day and age.
