Tip of the hat to you and your tenacity to rebuild a brass steamer into a reliable runner!!! That round house build is very cool too!! I'm building an N Scale Conrail layout in a 15x10 basement area so I guess I'm lucky my era is mid 80s so I can run Cabooses!!! Looking forward to your progress!!!
Outstanding work, Ray! As has been said earlier, once you get the first one done, the rest will be much easier. They should add a lot to your ops sessions. Wish I were closer lol.
Man... Your dedication to getting things running and running well, is really inspiring. We gotta convince you D12 guys to host an ops weekend so that us Lakeshores guys can weasel our way into an ops session on your layout. Lol
@@bessemerlakeerieinhoscale6061 if any of you guys want to come up to our ops weekend it sounds like we're pretty much decided on October 24th-26th for ours. I'm sure there will be more coming on that in the months ahead.
Not a weird project at all. I'm doing almost the opposite with DM&N 2-8-0's right now. 3d Printed shell over a UP brass 2-8-0 frame and running gear. Lots of improvements to make on old brass locos.
I can actually see the frame wasn't even aligned when soldered together, so yeah, that will cause a whole pile of problems, they need to start doing the hybrad route where it's a one piece casting instead of a built up frame like every single brass model has. and I love it as it's a custom made Brass Hybrid you basically built.
This is looking amazing. Doing one kitbash or build is hard, but if you're trying to do a fleet, it can be well worth the CAD time for the parts. Does BLI offer chassis or parts for purchase, or will you just part out locos you can find cheap?
Yep. Honestly, just getting the layout further along seemed like the bigger priority, and I kept hoping I'd come up with a less evasive plan for these in the meantime. Well. The layout isn't in a bad spot, I never got a better plan. It was/is time. The cool part, all the work is in the design up front. Once I get the first one done, doing another should be relatively painless.
Funny how you said the I1 drivers were a near perfect fit for your H1s - the drivers are two inches smaller and the cylinders a half inch smaller (1:1 of course), but that’s it. Almost fits like a glove.
@mercury7590 prototype yes, the models are within measurement error on the calipers wheel wise. The cylinders are very different but that's why we're printing replacements
I did a Solidworks and Inventer courses about 15 years ago. both great, but I'd probably have to relearn as I never got a chance to use either. They are perfect for engineering drawings such as this though. I will get a printer 1 day, great tool for modelling.
Every barrier helps, but it won't make it ok for things to see a lot of direct sunlight. Nothing I ever made for the car lasted more than a summer . But, depends what you're making. If it's big and beefy, it'd be ok... but not beefy parts aren't really fun to print in resin. A painted part in a basement will be good for a long long long time.
You have inspired me to get to work on my kitbash, a minitrix 2-10-0 into a 2-10-4, I will be referring to this video when I start modifications to the boiler. Thanks for the inspiration
I do like the way you think. Really cool speaker and new frame and wheel sets.
Thanks!
That is a heavy duty kit bashing project. Thanks for sharing. And good luck, looks like a lot of work.
Thanks! I think I'm past the hard part believe it or not. The good news is once I get the first one, copies should be relatively easy
Super Fine Work, I'm inspired to get back to work on my unfinished steamer projects. Thank You Sir.
Glad to help! Thanks!
Wow! A very informative and outstanding video. What a project. A lot of work and it looks awesome thus far. Cant wait to see the final product.
Thank you!!
Wow!. Great work and engineering on that brass monster.
Thanks!

Yes, it should just be like a kit. Thank you!
That's pretty neat. I have a couple of united scale models 4-4-0s that need a good bit of work like this.
Sounds like a project!
Down the rabbit hole!
Love it
@heavyobject4809 in this house its more like "further down the spiral" - NIN. Lol thank you!

Patience or insanity. Lol. Thank you!

Your eyes don't deceive you. These weren't well built even by the standards of the day, I think the price they go for reflects that. Thank you!
That is awesome. Can't wait to see it running!
Me either!
Now that's what I'm talking about !!!! Looks Great!!!
Thank you. If I can drive this one all the way home, it'll be sweet.
Wow,Ray,you,got,some,mad,skills,with,that,project!!!
Lol thank you! I've been playing in CAD almost 30 years professionally. It's nice when I can use it for fun.

I'll part out locos. I've contacted bli a few times, they're not interested in selling parts
I was wondering when this project was gonna get some traction, this is very neat!
