I doubt that Andy Timmons will ever read this, but be that as it may: as much as Vai and Satriani will "rip your head off" with their chops (and they are both incredibly outstanding players and great persons to boot), I just enjoy listening to Andy playing more than I enjoy listening to them play. Pretty humbling to hear Andy talk this way!
Had a chance to meet Andy at a show at El Paso Tx. couple of years ago , he was on the phone talking to his kid , such a cool dude , he just finished the call and let us take a few pictures with him . One of the coolest , most down to earth person , super musician. Thanks Andy . And thank you Master Josh for the amazing interviews .
Wow - Andy’s story is almost identical to mine - born the same year, 4 sisters instead of 4 brothers, and surrounded by that great music from the siblings and the parents. Even down to the console Motorola stereo my folks had. I had guitar magazines…I still remember reading the Texas Flood review in Guitar World, and bought the LP on the strength of that review. String instruments came naturally and I was music obsessed - ended up NOT doing it for a living, which was a plus for me actually, since fame is pretty spiritually toxic in most cases. I guess one could argue that guitar players don’t have to worry about fame these days…lol...which is the music world’s loss. I’m glad Andy is happy and doing well! Terrific player.
Im in medicine, the rest of the time, its like an orchestra going in my head. It's crazy but chromatic just happened to me, and now every note, b2, b3, b4, b5, b6, b7 all have meaning to me. This interview was fantastic, truefire, all your stuff Josh hits the spot, Andy what an open and sweet feeling he's got.
Always love listening to Andy - both playing and talking... And I'm pretty sure you Josh could make it happen with JC-120 - at least from the audience's perspective.
Another great one! From the Evansville region here on the Illinois side of the river but always in Evansville. These videos are the best thing ever for people that love great guitar conversations.
5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ AT is a TONE Angle and refreashinly a humerously humble cat! His new Keeley "Halo" pedal proves it. Josh knocked the producton out of the park on Andy's recent Electric Truth album where every track is fantastic. Kudo's gentelman!
Saw Jeff Beck in the late 90’s at Roseland Ballroom NYC. The most fluid, emotional live playing I ever experienced. Caught his slide that he threw out into the audience! Andy’s playing and composition remind me of that. Hanging on every word of this interview.
I saw Jeff Beck and BB King, I was 15 and it changed my life. BB told stories in between songs and Jeff played with his keys and drum trio, Bozzio on the kit. That was the moment that live guitar playing really clicked for me
2 great humble musicians with such an inspirational discussion, I always come away with such enthusiasm for the guitar and music listening to them play and talk about music. thanks guys!
Andy and Josh . ( and anybody reading this ) LISTEN to the Amos Garrett solo on Midnight at the Oasis . One of the finest pieces ever recorded . I shut out the song for decades then I read an interview with Marie Muldaur saying Amos was freaking out because Chet Atkins had come to the show mainly to hear that solo I had to have a listen and found out I ignored one of the best pieces I have ever heard .
Wow, these interviews are gold, thank you Josh! I subbed to your channel just yesterday with the release of your ibanez sig model (Congratulations!) Did not expect this type of content on here
um andy timmons band-an instrumental “rock” trio-doing the sgt peppers album complete, is one of the single greatest guitar records ever made. same league as jeff beck wired. imo. a singular statement. Their version of bohemian rhapsody live at namm a couple years ago is that good, as well. Andy plays inst. rock like joe pass plays jazz-his harmonic concept is fully realized whether there’s a band or not. AT is a monster. thnx josh.
What a cool dude. I don't understand how anyone could give a thumbs down to any of your content. Thanks for everything you're doing Josh 🤘 I'm always learning whether it's straight instruction or just off the cuff comments / adlibs to talking points, answering questions etc...
Great interview. FYI, I’m Andy’s age and also learned rock guitar from the “Improvising Rock Guitar” book. I still have the book (but lost the flexi disk). It’s just cool to see that someone else learned the way I did back in 1980!
Thank you for this Josh. It's like hanging out with my 2 favorite players. Great conversation. BTW, loving your TrueFire stuff (Andy's too) hope there's more to come! Happy New Year!
You guys have a “swing” thing that is a tether that you two may not be aware of. When Andy did the Kessel groove, I could see Josh wanting to crawl through the video and jam in person with Andy. That was when I figured out you guys may not do the exact Jazz swing thing in your playing verbatim, but it is swirling underneath the surface of your playing your own stuff.
Working with Simon Philips would have been great . Saw him only once with Jeff Beck on the There And Back tour and he was incredible. A great drummer will drive you on -look who Jeff had after Simon in his band . Andy is such an underrated player and would love to see him live and that Ibanez signature looks the business 😀
I've always wanted to meet Andy to tell him how much his playing and whole vibe as a human guitarist inspires me, but I'm telling you, if I dont get MIDNIGHT AT THE OASIS out of my head soon I may kick his ass. LOL
Two of my favorite players (along with Matt Schofield and Kirk Fletcher). What an awesome interview Josh!! Andy is one of the most humble and talented guitarists around and really enjoyed his honesty. BTW, here's a link to Andy's tour with Olivia Newton John: th-cam.com/video/MAUCnunz5Ls/w-d-xo.html.

57:35 - that discussion is pure gold.
Thanks bro!
A lesson of life. Sooooo great. Andy is such a down to earth, humble and kind person. And what a musician...Thanks.
Couldn't agree more!
The jhs andy Timmons pedal is my favorite
Man - that Andy Timmons clean-ish/dirty-ish tone. LOVE IT
You're killing it with these interviews Josh.
Absolutely spot on! Fantastic stuff!

These interviews are the best thing to come out of 2020. Thanks Josh!

I recently discovered Andy T. and I really enjoy his guitar playing. Great chops and tone. Seems like a real cool guy too.
Josh, keep doing this thing, I love it
When Andy talked about Barney Kessel and Joe Pass and chord melody in rock context I was like - right on!
Such a huge influence! Thanks for doing this interview, Josh!

Great interview. I was hoping to hear much more gear talk though.

A guy by the name of John Farnham 🤣 he’s a legend in Australia absolutely one of the most incredible vocalists you will ever hear.
Cool questions
Love Andy ❤️

Did we missed something in the abrupt edit spot Josh?
