I feel so grateful to have found you and your content. I’m 66 years young and have taken about 10 years away from making art - now living in Portugal and excited to begin to discover my own work to share with the world.
I sent this class to my grandaughter. We painted together in south decota at a group class. Saw art in a gallery that pictures sold for 25,000 each. That man only painted in his life. It gave me soul of this man. He was mental in his own life but brilliant in his soul of his art.
Nick, Thank you for sharing so much about your art and the principles you teach. I am new at painting and you have inspired me that I can not wait to get moving!
I am in awe. Your honesty, clarity and vulnerability resonates with so much I want to express. Your past life, is the journey to believe that you can make it. Loss, brings reality but how you recover, is your response....to make the next journey. I have started painting after 40 odd years. I painted big, always. I have no tools, I use emulsions, I have no canvas. But I make do, because confidence is the energy to explore, express and take critique....and continue. I was afraid to make marks, fear of being judged. I would love to attend a class. But one day, I will join in. Thank you for being an inspiration I have shared with my friends. 🙏💐🎈
Great conversation Nicholas!Another aussie here! Agreed on all counts! you're such a great inspiration to me. I don't get to watch you a lot but every time I do I'm always left feeling good and want to go paint! Looking forward to the new workshop. I'm all signed up 🙌🏻
So beautifully articulated wisdom, on the frustration and roadblocks to making art. Wonderful pep talk on procrastination. Helpful and generous. Thanks Nick.
this is an amazing video... so extremely helpful, and I thank you.... I am listening to this for the 2nd time and taking Notes! I appreciate your answers to these three questions and you added so much more insight and info! Nick, you are amazing and I'm so happy I found you on YT! I'm also on your email list 🤩
Nick.... muchas gracias... . Im week 9 on your course. down here in New Zealand.... and just moving from painting shapes to more wet on wet.... on a roll and listening to you. Somehow I turned on my computer ..and there you were. Thank heavens for synchronicity...cos Im not very disciplined. But so want to go big.... am all ears. You are so very generous
Not sure if my comment went through?? I gained so much strength from these last few minutes! Your voice and message is definitely with me! Thank you once again!
You are such a good facilitator! that is my deepest praise! “we’ve gotta be self-generating.” yes. Moving toward the things that are better.... making it so it’s a buoyant thing to participate in. ... such a good, good reminder. even if it’s twenty minutes...
I stumbled upon your videos right in time… I had somewhat of a block to my creativity watching a few of these videos have released my fear. EXPECTATION is the enemy lol Thank you 😊
If you have a small studio space - which a lot of us do a compromise is to take a picture on your phone and look at the whole composition that way. Its not great - but it can work - and you can also zoom in and out to work on the composition.
I take pictures of my work as it develops and it helps me see it differently than standing in front of it. I really like that process because it helps me find out more as I scroll through the different images. Super helpful when I can't decide on a color placement or finding balance. It's almost as seeing the work with new eyes or someone else's eyes.
I just love all your messages especially the self- generating piece. This has definitely shifted to the better. Created a new website and next a TH-cam Chanel. Moving towards better work, recording it, sharing, reflecting, do it again! I am starting to reach out even though I live in an isolated area. Can’t wait for the workshop!
I'm working through you on youtube (that sounds terrible... apologies...!)You're so generous, and truthful. Helping me an awful lot. Thank you. Hoping to do CVP someday.
Kids are like this too. When I do my weaving classes on a belt (Inkel) loom, the kids will often take all of their noon hour to keep weaving. Sometimes they take their work home and often they won't have the same kind of attention m.
Fantastic video thanks for sharing. Really insightful. Love the Greek fisherman's hat analogy :) Can I ask, would you be able to make a video, if you haven't already, on your shift from producing representational work (as an Illustrator) to working abstractly? Was the change of midset quick, or did it evolve slowly? How do you stop thinking literally and paint more intuitively, etc. Would that be possible? Thanks
Procrastination is more correct than being in a in a slump I think I don't have room for big and so going in search for spot. I am now seeing pourpous in this. I'm going to make pic for my grandaughter. Yes I need the habit. I'm ocd and can't stop once I start. Can't go all night like I use to. Ok I'm starting to find time in my new time line. I like you little purple line. Well I like it all but I see the energy now. If I mature I'm going off the edge. Lol!
I would really appreciate you # your videos or dating them. I can only say that order of my learning would help me be more spontaneous in my work. Chris
Hi Nicholas- how long do you think it takes to become an artist that feels good enough to sell their work - for someone with a design background ? Thanks
🌸🌸🌸 Aaah, “the problem of NOT painting...” you nailed the thing that is gnawing at me. I fell into too much study! Too much internet. Just love the phrase “a little art party” Back in March, I was thinking i would do that in September...
i post on instagram..........still only a handful of followers, most of whom are other artists, who do not want to buy my art because they are attempting to sell theirs.
So many awful ads on Pinterest but I guess lots of people don't mind that. The moving ones are the worst. I used to love it before it went full on corporate sleaze.

Very clear and helpful advice, especially helpful on the 'style' subject. I knew it but it really helps to hear it back!
That is an astonishing picture in the background. The eye would never tire from contemplating the marks. Greetings from Australia.
This is two years ago but has energized me beyond belief! Thank you once again Nick!
Your voice and message is definitely with me!
I really appreciate that you so generously share your knowledge. You are an excellent teacher. You make things so easily understandable.
You’re such a good mentor!
Nick, Thank you for sharing so much about your art and the principles you teach. I am new at painting and you have inspired me that I can not wait to get moving!
Thank you, Nicholas..really hit some wonderful points here; “for myself”! I appreciate you!🎨

Fantastic video. So much great advice. I've saved it to watch again. Love everything you do and everything you teach. Thank you 🙏
Great tips ! Plenty of art teachers ''down under '' but art is universal and great to have barriers broken down by putting it out there !

Nick you are BRILLIANT!!!!!!!
Love you proper teaching techniques.
If you have a small studio space - which a lot of us do a compromise is to take a picture on your phone and look at the whole composition that way. Its not great - but it can work - and you can also zoom in and out to work on the composition.
also use a mirror.!!!
I adore your generosity. Just thanks!

Thanks for help Nick getting into your art
Wonderful info. Pure mental coach!!
I really enjoyed the video: 'answering 3 questions', many thanks for the so many tips, look at your Art and develop it.

I’m watching this one year after you posted it. I really appreciate the information, there wasn’t anything there and it wasn’t of value!
Happy to have found you in youtube☺️
would be awesome to see the entire painting!!!!
With the rand dollar exchange rate I couldn't possibly afford the course. So enjoyed the freebies. Thank you Nick.

Scotty Simpson i second your request!
Really giving the sense and feel towards art
When working large-scale do you use a quick drying medium with your paint?
Liquin, and then cold wax. good... Pinterest is great. I love it. It is my virtual “studio” of albums, when I have less and less in real life.
Would you use Liquinn and cold wax to finish an acrilyc painting, or just oils?
Do you paint a background layer and then “erase” with white to build your shapes? Or do you start with shapes and build those up?
Thank you for this inspiring chat.

what kind of oil paint do you use to paint these huge canvases? Oil paint is so expensive :-)
How long does it takes your oil painting to dry?
This is GOOD STUFF😊😊😊😊😊
Watching from Philippines 🇵🇭
Ps. I have my father's real painting paint brushes. They are awsome today. Big and tools. Yea!
I would really appreciate you # your videos or dating them. I can only say that order of my learning would help me be more spontaneous in my work.
