    summary
The circular iron block that is the object of worship as the Iron Shrine (as the Great Mirror Iron) is called the Great Mirror Iron because of its shape. It is said to have a diameter of 160 cm, a thickness of 11 cm, and a weight of 1.571 tons, and a frame with a width of 6 cm on one side. It is now called the Great Mirror Iron, but it is clear that it is not a mirror.
According to the legend, it is said to have been raised from the sea west of Kanaya Shrine in June of the first year of civilization (1469). It is said that even though it is iron, it does not rust, so it sought the benefits of immortality and became an object of faith. The original purpose of use and the date of production are not clear, but since the form is similar to the senbuchi iron pot used for salt production at the Shiogama Shrine in Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture, it is presumed that it is a pot used for salt making, and the date of manufacture is thought to be after the Middle Ages.
