I repair and service baseball gloves. In my opinion, and everyone has one, is do not use water on your glove. The pros use this technique because it can definitely help break in the glove faster. But the downside of this is it will cause the leather to deteriorate much faster. If you can afford a new $300-$400 glove every year or two, do it. Pros get has many free gloves supplied to them has they need by the manufactures. Most of us want that expensive glove to last. If you want it to last, I recommend to not use hot water, or steam, never put it in the microwave or oven, use only oils or cream that are designed to be used on a glove. Not WD40, olive oil, motor oil or any oil not designed for a glove or leather. I rub in 100% pure lanolin cream on a new glove before I start the break in process. Don't be afraid to bend it where you want the hinge to be and having it close where you want it to. That normally means thumb near the forefinger for infielder and thumb towards the pinky for outfielder. a ball mallet can be helpful in forming the pocket and using it to help forming the hinge. This can help get the break in started, but the only way to truly break in a glove is for the user of the glove to use it over and over. Like I said this is my opinion and we all have one. This is what I do and have had good results, but It's your glove do with it what you want.
