    Yes! It drives me nuts when people talk about the "Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge" as if it was meant as a genuine "beauty hack." As someone that was a teenager in my freshman/sophmore year of high school when this challenge was big, it was about making fun of Kylie, not mimicking her.

      @@Princessmimiii I was referring to the extreme iterations of it that largely made up the online "Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge." Permanent nerve damage from messing with the lip and jaw area is 100% possible. Getting that from a lip challenge is unlikely but possible - and nerve damage is often permanent.
    I has surgery to correct an overbite over a decade ago and my nerves were stretched as a result of the procedure. My bottom lip is still partially numb from it today.

    • @grapeyard1778
      @grapeyard1778 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    • @Curiefeld
      @Curiefeld ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @grapeyard1778 oops, forgot to reply. Specifically I have numbness on my lower lip and jaw.
      The numbness on my jaw is pretty minor - I've lost about 30% of my sensation there. Not a big deal.
      The lips are worse. The left side is worse than the right. It's not 100% numb - I can feel it if I touch it - but I have lost about 70% of sensation.
      Overall, it's not a big deal. I just need to make sure I don't accidentally leave food there during and after eating, as I can't always feel if I have food on my face 🙃. A napkin fixes that issue.

    I did this in like 2013 with a water bottle one night, before it was a thing just because I liked the sensation of a fat lip. I thought it was funny. I didn't really think anything of it until after a bit of messing around I had a bruise above and below my lips. I was so embarrassed and it lasted for a few days, I had to cover it with concealer. I was only like 15 but I haven't done it since because I'm traumatised by the bruise.
    I work in a nursery and you randomly get 2-3 years old creating vacuums on their lips all the time with cups just because it's a funny thing to do. I'm constantly removing the cups from their faces because I'm terrified about what marks they're gonna leave on their faces, but some trends just don't die no matter the age.

    I did this in 1991 at age 8 with a juice bottle, just because I thought it was funny. What wasn't funny was that this happened on vacation, so in all the photos from the trip, I tragically have a purple suction bruise mustache. Fwiw, enough time has passed that it has circled back to being funny again, but in the moment, I was mortified. I'm LITERALLY smdh that this has been an actual trend.

I've seen people get promoted when they were horrible at their jobs, simply because they had a pretty face. People have opinions if you "try too hard" OR "don't try hard enough". So I think it's worth acknowledging that we're all shallow in some way and people always have been 🤷

I remember when I was a kid and saw the Tomb Raider movie I wished for Angelina's lips, but as I got older I saw that my face is more of a pixie vibe, big eyes and small nose and mouth, and that is beautiful too, just different, and it's fine lol. Hi @JamesWelsh Great video. Blood clots are very serious if they are absorbed into your body, they may travel to your lung causing it to collapse, this puts stress on your heart, you could have a heart attack. If it moves to your heart, it can cause blockage & a heart attack. If it moves to your brain, you could have a stroke. These all can be fatal. Clots need to be dissolved. It takes months to recover, with daily injections at first, with blood thinners & constant blood tests to check your levels. I really appreciate you showing how dangerous these stupid challenges are. Big lips are not worth dying for. Thank you, James. 👏

    Anyone who's interested can improve the appearance of their lips and surrounding skin by facial exercises.
    My lips were thin and kinda idk baggy looking, with lip lines.
    A year ago I started doing facial exercises and lip exercises. I've had two friends ask recently if I had filler. I have not.
    Facial muscles are just like any other muscle in the body and can be improved upon.
    I also stopped using straws. I remember years ago dentists telling people to use straws to keep drinks off your teeth. Don't. Straws are similar to sucking on a cigarette.
    If you really want to use a straw try the lip straw. I do use that with tea and soda. It definitely helps because you're not pursing your lips a hundred times a day.

      This is my take on it as well.
      I remember when these lip kits came out and they were extremely limited in supply. It was a pain to get one of these things and on top of that they were also quite expensive considering the majority of her fanbase were quite young. Of course a lot of people weren't able to get them, either due to them selling out or due to price but they wanted Kylie's "natural" lips. Given the name of the challenge it was obvious they were going to stumble across it.
      No, Kylie didn't invent the challenge, but she DID lie to her fans and was happy to sell them that lie and profit from their insecurities. People didn't buy the lip kits because they were good, they bought them because they were either fans of hers and wanted to own a bit of her 'merch', or because they thought they could get lips like Kylie's. When people started doing the challenge she (or her team) should have immediately spoken up and she didn't.

I hate how Kylie Jenner fooled everyone. People think they will be prettiert with huge lips just like Kylie. But thats just not true. When you are unhappy with yourself, no filler no botox will eventually help.
    Instead of doing such a stupid challenge I think people should get lip fillers and see how stupid this is. I got it done myself and it was the worst pain I ever felt. The worst. The swelling afterwards gives a good example of how one will look like with massive filler. I hated it. I looked stupid and felt awkward. I would never ever do it again. If I imagine I needed to get the amount of Kylie's fillers I would go nuts. Each time she gets them refreshed must be super painful and the thing is that these areas feel weird. She must have 3 or 4ml in her upper lip alone and thus is a LOT.
    I also never understood why she was lying about it for so long. I mean, what is the use? It was sooo obvious.
