    Ah I love Timp sooooo much! I love that the rain was so serene. I kayaked on Leigh lake in Teton and our paddle back to the car, it was glass on the lake and a light rain and probably one of the best backcountry moments I’ve had. So quiet and cleansing.

    Thank you. I’m following your lead on many things. I haven’t been camping in a few years. I haven’t been backpacking since the 90s. With this COVID thing my girlfriend suggested camping over hotels or motel 6 at mammoth mountain. I went a bit further with reservations for coastal camping at Big Sycamore Canyon (point Mugu) and Joshua Tree. I’m shooting for camping once a month. Maybe Death Valley and Mojave in the near future. If they won’t let us go to Disneyland, we’re going car camping, y0! Thanks for all the hacks, advice and cooking suggestions.

    Loved this vlog! I've been following your channel for a few months now and I really like it. It inspired me to go on my own hiking adventures with my husband and dog. I also got myself my first backpack as well, which is really exciting. But I was wondering what is a great length for a day hike? I am aware that it depends on different terrains and fitness levels as well. Though I can't seem to find an answer how long a day hike should be?

    • @amanda.outside
      @amanda.outside  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm so happy to hear that you're getting out for some hikes. Way to go! I don't think there's really a magic number for what a day hike should be. I've done short 2 mile hikes all the way up to 20+ miles in a day. It totally depends on things like where you want to go, what you're comfortable doing, and how much time you have!

    • @PoppyNoir
      @PoppyNoir 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the reply Amanda, I thought so as well that it would depend on many factors. But knowing it can range from a few miles to up to 20 is helpful for me.

    • @amanda.outside
      @amanda.outside  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PoppyNoir Yea it really just depends! A 20 mile day hike would be a long day, and I don't think that's very common. The only time I've really hiked that much in a day is when I was backpacking. In this video, I did 14 miles and I was so tired. It just depends - especially on the terrain and elevation gain!

    • @amanda.outside
      @amanda.outside  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I brought as much water as my reservoir could hold, so 2 liters, but I also had my Sawyer water filter so I could filter more if needed. On this hike, at this time of year, there aren't many water sources though. Since it was a cloudy, colder day, I didn't go through as much water as I probably would have on a typical hot sunny day.

    Looked like an AWESOME trail ,, 14 miles in 8 hrs ......back at 2 pm ..... WHY Are you in such a rush ?? Take breaks , find creeks and lakes to fish .... make an overnight of it ,,take a morning swim......,.I love seeing what other outdoor people do on trail and in the backcountry ,, but pounding out a trail or a 14er hike in half a day ??... I just don't get it......STOP AND SMELL THE WILDFLOWERS ..... so many make it look like such a workout and there will be no tomorrow...complain of sore muscles and joints all the next day ..... but with that said,, food is not all that important for a day hike ,,,,,, BUT WATER IS !! .. Drink plenty along the way ,, even more so if at altitude....Mountain hiking has SO many rewards with sometimes wildlife ,, spectacular views and amazing calm with Natures Spirits all around ,, shaking hands with a cloud....or your God.... Get all you can while you are there ,,, tomorrow may be a completely different set of circumstances.......
    .. I do enjoy your video's and amazing attitude and respect of the trail ......Thank you for sharing your experience......
    .....Stay Safe and God Bless.....
