Caitlin Kershaw sorry, i didn’t mean to shade. i respect bts and it’s not the boys’ fault. i just feel like most of their current title tracks/singles are made for the mainstream western demographic - saturated with samples and autotune (which they btw don’t need at all). it’s good that there are still songs that are more “them” in their album. i do wish the boys have more creative control.. again, it’s not their fault. if they decided to cater to the demand, that’s more of a production/label decision.

an interesting thing about this song too is that the korean and english versions are each quite different. while they each aim at bringing a similar message across the korean version is very realistic and talks about being yourself and working hard to achieve your dreams. the english version is the "dream version" where they talk about finally making it to the top and being rich, as this is something everyone dreams about at one point in their lives.
I remember listening to lyrics of this song and thinking how it doesn't match up with their concept of Regular being the everyday life and Irregular being the dream life, but now that the Korean version came out I remember that Regular (Kor) is actually the first and Regular (Eng) the last track on the album, and since the album songs slowly move from reality to dream state towards the end, it all makes sense!
Galadriel of Lorien exactly! that's another thing i find so great about the album: the story-telling. they mentioned themselves how it's supposed to take you on a journey similar to a blockbuster movie, which makes me so excited to listen to the full thing in order!

While I love the song and love the concept it is funny to listen to them flossin' in the song when you KNOW they are all living in a dorm sharing a bowl of a convenience store ramen.

The THING about this album for NCT 127 is the English Ver. in general has been theorized by other Nctzens as the "Dream" or "Irregular Version" of the album, and some of the members did explain that the album is told as a story if you go through it in order.
Nct has played the dream concept for a lot of their songs and if you see the Nctmentary it basically uses the "Dream Terminology" as the name for the songs. For Nct 127's upcoming album they used the same Dream concept, but used the words 'Regular' and 'Irregular' to represent what is the dream and what is the reality. The 'Regular' song is actually the Korean ver. because it represents a realistic view and aspiration to work for your dream and work hard to get money, the 'Irregular' song would be the English version of Regular because it's a Dreamlike reflection of wanting to show off your loads of money and bragging about it, which you can see is reflected in the movielike experience from the music video.
A lot of the Korean fans translated the Korean Ver. lyrics and said that the lyrics meant something a bit different and weren't as "braggy" which is also reflected in the music video since the cinematography isn't as dramatic. This is something I am LOVING about this album, the parallels between the Korean and English ver. of the song Regular, and the story they are trying to tell with the album! It's really evident that a lot of work and thought went into making this album so I hope all the Nctzens support the album and our bois! AH woops sorry for the rant heh It's very eye opening to have the translation by Korean fans and seeing all the cool theories about the album! Stan Nct!! Stan talent!!!

Because this one the English one could be said to have “cringy lyrics” because they are saying stuff like we got money etc etc. but the korean version is about working hard to have money etc etc. the English version is like a dream but the korean version is reality. Even the changes in the way the video is shot shows this. They’ve put a lot into this comeback and it’s rather impressive to say the least.

i feel like most people think the English Ver is more lit bc the English Ver is supposed to be in their Dreams, them imagining being crazy rich and the lyrics definitely reflect that. Meanwhile the Korean Ver represents Reality as the lyrics talk about being hardworking etc and even the MV is a little less crazy, more toned down. NCT's Dreams & Reality theme never fails to amaze me! It's so clever.
I think people forget that NCTs concept is completely about spreading worldwide one step at a time. It's neo culture, and their western debut is part of that and should come as no surprise! I wouldn't be surprised if they debuted a USA unit one day, that's just the ethic and concept behind NCT

Sometimes I think SM wants a NCT unit in every country. We are getting NCT China this year. Next country to have a unit I think is probably Japan. ( I know someone that would be super happy)
I like nct concept because its interested. Makes you wonder what is SM next step with NCT. It make you curious. You hear a group with 18 +member. At first they might ignore it. To many members carzy them at first, but you keep hearing nct units popping out. It make they more curious that at some point they check nct.
I Think SM wants to make NCT a brand.

the beautiful part of the lyrics here is that the korean version is the total opposite, and it was beautifully made cause the two songs are put in opposite positions even in the album tracklist. regular-irregular, they made it a concept, described the regular in korean and the dream, irregular life in english.

I see a lot of people having problems with the lyrics but honestly most of the songs that blow up in the US don’t have lyrics much better. Maybe the only difference is they’re much more comfortable saying it.
But like come on did anyone expect them to roll through with Kendrick Lamar lyricism. Nothing they’ve said on this song is worse then Gucci gang Gucci gang Gucci gang or any of the 300 other western songs that take over. I think the boys did great. I hear the Korean versions lyrics are a bit deeper, and that makes sense. So great reaction! I really enjoy that you give props where props are due.
truth!! i went to a club and genuinely the only song lyrics i could hear was "gucci gang" and some weird "lean back" song 😂😂 i dont really care for the lyrics to this song much (sometimes i couldnt even rlly understand the english, but i appreciate the time and effort they must have put into learning the language just for the song!!) but man the music is so good 😌✊
what's cool is that in the context of the album it makes sense - it's the last track at which point in the story they're dreaming that all their hard work paid off and they're super rich 😉
@@GaladrielOfLorien to add on to that the English version is boastful because just to have an English song means they've made it worldwide and their dreams are coming true. Sure they probably aren't as rich as they're saying in the lyrics but they're not that far off with their growing success.

The concept of the MV was also well thought.
The English version lyric was more flashy, braggy, about getting rich & money.
But Korean version was the opposite, it was much more than material achievements, it was about DREAMS, & being their authentic selves.
In English version they really value the diamonds & things, while in Korean version they said they shine more than the diamond itself.
They said they not satisfied with money they have in Eng version on regular, but they're irregular in Korean version, their goal wasn't money but more like the process of it.
But actually the Korean was Regular (reality) & English was irregular (in their dream)
Its amazing how they can mixed & switch all of the concept. I really blown away with all of this, it's really well thought.

I wish you would react to the Korean version of Regular! Not only do the lyrics deliver an entirely different message from the English version but also that part you seemed to like a lot with Mark and Taeyong rapping by themselves has more screen time in the Korean ver lol.
People need to understand that what identifies as KPOP does not only encompass the Korean language. Many music producers who have worked on songs- such as Bad Boy by Red Velvet- have said that Korean songs (even if sung in English) would not do well in the American market. Reason why being that Korean pop (and music in general) is FAR more musically structured than American music; Because it’s detailed, it’s more intricate and unique sounding. It’s probably also one of the main reasons why KPOP does well internationally, not just in the US. So, I’m glad you brought that up! There are many factors that make KPOP “KOREAN pop”, and it’s not just the language...it’s more than that. :’)
2020 and i always listen to this song. you don’t know how in love i am with the bass in this song.
I never comment on things, but I just have to say that I adored this music video. The dark room where two of the boys are dancing reminds me of one of Yayoi Kusama’s work. And the neon/dark environment goes so well with the song. I genuinely feel like a badass every time I listen to it.

The Korean version has slightly different lyrics and vibe. It belongs more to the Regular half of the album whereas the English is on the Irregular half

When PD stays silent for 90% of a reaction you know sheet is gud. And nct is MESMERIZING. I am so happy and proud as a two years nctzen of where they are. They are on another level. They seem to do impossible choreos so smoothly... Their level is over normal standard and they keep becoming better!
PD, this English Version is actually a dream, the lyrics, the darkness, are actually based on "non-reality" if i may describe it, they made a Korean version that is based on reality concept as Johnny of nct put it, and it has lyrics that is somehow opposite to what the english version says, and the video is also somehow different
Production wise its aces. I haven't checked out the Korean verison yet, look maybe the lyrics are growing on me...
story time, I knew that NCT was making an american debut because my Dad (bless his soul) told me "I saw one of your korean bands on Jimmy Kimmel ... STC 500?? Or something?" I was like ... "NCT 127?" honestly I was impressed that he got close enough I could guess. I'm not a huge fan of NCT's sound and I dont think this song will be one of my faves BUT i'm super proud of them and support their efforts. Just cus I dont like it doesnt mean I cant appreciate their hard work.

I really appreciate people who are decently looking at kpop acts debuting in the West. Also i 100% agree about your words on them still being kpop or not.
