@@famaccount479 Probably but the Captain decides such matters and opening a transom door while underway could well void your insurance. You just don't do it.
It is not sinking. Only some dufus did not close the beachclub door. Possible troubles with hydraulics. Because of that reason, the beachclub is watertight, and closed off from the rest of the ship by watertight door.

there are over 400 shipwrecks in the lake i live on alone. And i'm talking ships, not small craft. Protocol mate. If its going to sink, it may do so extremely quickly. This is a reason why many liferafts have hydrostatic release mechanisms that actually auto release when the ship sinks. that door doesn't weigh so much that the crew couldn't pull it up manually. So even if electrical was down, they should have been able to secure it. I take it the rescue pods were a preemptive measure?

Why aren't there air bag saving devices on the outside of boats. Where a sensor is activated inflating 4- 10 attached air ballons to stop it from sinking?
My idea, which might be easy, but would be harrowing thus bravery in needed. 0. Use ropes, etc., and secure the trash now floating in the doorway, removing it from the area, and make the doorway free of obstruction. 1. Place and affix (screw) ends of (2) 92 5/8" 2 x 4's into the hull, 8" above the door opening corners, 2. Affix (screw) the opposite respective 2 x 4 ends into the sides of the door when it is in the open position. 3. Place waterproof tape on the flat outer hull side, around the circumference of the large door opening, affixing the tape 5" from the opening, and including the door surface, across the door (no 5" margin for tape that is on door surface) 4. Place a "deck" of 2 x 4 stringer joists horizontally across the doorway spaced fittingly, depending on the thickness of tarp that will be employed, and whether a stiff panel barrier, or chain link wire barrier, can be placed between the stringers and tarp. For example 12" spacing might be used if a panel or chain link mesh is available. Orient the stringers such that the thinner dimension is horizontal, providing addition lateral strength in the for & aft direction of wave force. Size the "deck" such that the load bearing ends rest, and can be fastened securely within the inside of the waterproof tape barrier. 5. Fasten securely to the hull, the makeshift 2 x 4 deck across door opening using screws and L brackets. 6. Place & fasten strong taught netting, rigid panels of sufficient strength, or wire chain link fencing fabric, upon outside of 2 x 4 deck. 7. Place and fasten tarp across 2 x 4 deck extending past circumference of waterproof tape, and secure tarp to tape. Apply seconday containment boundary, tape to hull layer at outer edges of tarp. Include extra tarp material at corners and seal all edges.
