    printing to audio, picking the best note, and duplicating that one is another way to solve this.

    Interesting didn't notice that before. I print mine to 1/8th notes audio for every note I use, and then I chop it and rearrange it in audio. It's a bit extra effort but I feel everything that is in audio is the final truth. And congrats to the 50k

    I've been aware of the voice stealing problem in some synths despite not fully understanding why it behaves the way it does. And I was always wondering why having the filter in the group seems to sound better in Phaseplant. Problem solved, thank you :)

    Here are many concepts mixed to a blurry explanation. Voice stealing is about NOTES. No matter how many oscillators, filters or modulators you use in your synth, in the end it will all be mixed down to a stereo pair of monostreams. This output is one voice. You control this using midi input. One note equals one voice. Playing a simple triad therefore uses 3 voices. You regulate how many of these voices the synth should be able to perform by setting the polyphony parameter. If we set it to 2, we will only ever hear 2 of the 3 notes of that triad. The decision, which note is stolen, depends on various techniques. For example, a developer can choose to select the one that is already in its release phase. Or the oldest one. Or the last one. Etc.
    What you see in Phaseplant however, is how internal voices are dealt with. A synth has two sections, polystream and monostream. Every incoming midi note will trigger each oscillator's envelopes. Each of these paths is seperate from the others. For example, if your synth has 3 oscillators, the polystream will contain 3 seperate "channels" of audio data. At one point they all are combined into monostreams (most synths nowadays use 2 for stereo output, but there are also synths that output more, for example surround sound). These monostreams are a mixdown of all channels of audio data. Each monostream used is at first a complete copy of the other. Only by applying different effects to the monostreams, do we get differences and therefore a stereo output (simplest example: panning). A monostream is the sum of all seperated polystream data. Think of it like the master channel in your DAW. And just like you can have effects on the individual tracks or on the master channel in a DAW, you can have that too in a synth. Obviously the monostream part is less CPU intensive, which is why all effects normally are placed in the monostream. But you can place an effect in the polystream. Instead of working on the sum it then has to work on each channel in the polystream seperately. With three oscillators that means triple the computation amount.
    When you set the filter in lane 1 of your Phaseplant example to "poly", you move the filter from the monostream to the polystream. But why would anyone want that, if it costs so much more CPU load? Because Oscillators might not be synchronized to MIDI note on. Normally they are. But you can delay an oscillator in various ways. When having one filter in the monostream, it will start filtering with the first oscillator. In the polystream it will start filtering on every polychannel's start individually (basically having one filter per polychannel).
    I know these concepts are close in perception, but technically very different.

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea that's pretty much what I showed in the video lol

    • @sevenfifteen
      @sevenfifteen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DashGlitch No, you mixed note stealing and polystreams. But sure, why bothering to check at least. What do you think people will learn from a video that explains it wrong? I'm sad that this is your reaction.

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sevenfifteen Perhaps I got the words wrong, but it what I was talking about is called "voice stealing" in vital and various other plugins, as I showed in the video. The issues I talk about in the video are due to modulation and voice stealing, the way to fix it in phase plant is to use a Poly stream.

    • @sevenfifteen
      @sevenfifteen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DashGlitch Thanks for having a second thought. But voice stealing is a higher level function. There is no voice stealing in the polystream. Imagine you set up 3 oscillators each an octave apart. With what you think is meant with voice stealing it would lead to one of the oscillators not generating sound, while the others do. That is not happening. On the contrary, it is crucial in the polystream that each seperate stream keeps intact until it is mixed down in the monostream. Stealing happens on the ouput stage, which is the higher level monostream.
      As you may have seen from my original comment, I took effort because my goal is not to be negative, but to inform. You can use that info to your advantage or not, it's up to you. But what I explained is not what you explained. I get, that simplifiying makes it easier for a musician to deal with it. But then again, without knowing the inner workings, there will be situations, where you can't solve it from imagining something up. Like voice stealing in the polystream. That was all I wanted to clear up. :)

    if you use a wav bass record in the sampler, this does not happen. This works in my case, it does not necessarily mean that it works for others.

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  ปีที่แล้ว

      oh i understand the video now, so in my serum for my rolling bass right now I have it built out of the 2 oscillators and the sub oscillator so its coming up as 3 voices down the bottom right and its set to the default max of 8 is this gonna have it so there isnt any voice stealing happening?
