Always thought Cotton Cordell had the best G Finishes! Their broken back Redfins with red head & white in G finish was a killer saltwater bait! And the best day ever fishing for Redfish in Greens Lake in Galveston after a cold front blew through, the redfish were feeding on little shad they had pinned up against the bank! I threw the Heedon 4" spook in the blue top, white sides and pink bottom G Finished! They wore it out! Knocked off the finish until it mostly bone! And twisted hooks so many times a couple off the barbs finally broke off as I tried to straighten out! To watch a 10 lb redfish strike a spook on the surface they had get half of their body's out the water because of their mouth location! With the morning sun just coming up the bait & The Redfish reflecting the suns rays they both looked like they had a G Finish! The water, the green marsh against the clear blue bird sky! And I was the only one on the water! It's still eteched in my minds eye! The Big O in a White G finished would spank Big Smallies on the upper Potomac and on the Susquehanna near Three Mile & High Island areas! Cloudy mornings throwing the O upstream and working through the sandbars eel grass its a white bait with faint grey lines to mimic a crawfish pattern! Very effective in low light conditions! And when the finishes are knocked off and just a bone color? Still effective baits! Use to be able to find them on ebay & online in the 2000's but no more! If you do? Prices are crazy! Just like the old two hook 7" F-18 Musky Rapala's still very effective baits! Love watching this channel because of the old school fishing baits that most fisherman overlook or pass bye! Or at least they did unril this channel! CMTFU! Be cool!
Excellent discussion of what I would guess is a bit of an overlooked topic in fishing history: the G-finish paint job. I'm guessing you might be the sole purveyor of this info on the internet. Fascinating, thorough and a darn fun education for the rest of us. Hats off to you, Chris!
Smallmouth bass was one of my favs! They need to bring back the original size big o in every g finish and regular colors too! I still fish mine and the wooden ones they came back out of quite a few years ago! They were in 2 sizes! I wish they’d come back out with Heddons big head too!
I love those old g finish colors for sure. Im kinda on the bigger bait side so i would love to see the 8000 size come back in some original colors as well as newer ones also!!
Great video, I recommend you get in touch with Matt at BTL he has frank sckalish at least once a week live and they discuss lure colors he even breaks down the cequence of color when painting lures I think it would make a great part two to this video bringing in the one and only uncle frank to add to the history 👍 👍 👍 Ps: you will get the uncle part when you speak with Matt 👍
In the late 90s they had signature series I think it was Bill dance and hank Parker one in particular was a see through crawfish pattern in Fat A crankbait. Also they had a long A with a transparent color, shad pattern with a foil mirror in the middle of the bait. Great baits. I still have the Fat A but the long A was stolen by a baby pike.
It's not bird poop it's bat poop 😂. But the flash style paints have been used every since then. There's different style paints now that do the same. I use a few in my lure painting and it's really cool how they flash in light.
Please O please bring back the Rebel Wee R squarebill💟 I fish rivers and sometimes I'm forced to sacrifice an offering. And yes, I've tried them all - Wee R for me.
Hey retro, did they ever make the Cordell spot minnow in G finish? I have two in pristine condition, thanks. Also the baby torpedo in G finish is a fish catching machine, i remember throwing one, and as soon as the bait hit the water a nice Bass came up and smoked it. Thanks for the awesome videos.
Seeing these prices makes me think we're complaining too much. A Zara Spook at Bass Pro today is $7.99. A $3.62 increase over that time span is nothing.
The 7800 is the size they need to bring back that's probably the most popular size squarebill crankbait used and they'd probably sell more of those than the other sizes. But the smallest size is great for those bfs guys setups.

That’s one heck of a story, good buddy! That one is worth sharing!!

The smaller big o is a straight killer in the fall when the bass are shallow and keying in on shad.

That's hilarious! Always assumed is meant Gloss. Great video as always!
Never seen before G-Finish drop zara spook wow!;!
Can you do a run down on the AC shiner
I need to!
Just got in 6 of the purple and chartreuse crankbaits 👍
I have a couple of Rebel Spoonbill minnows and CC Rattling Minnows. Bought them as a kid but now moved from active baits to collection lures.
G finish baits are great, one of my favorites bomber has a green tiger color that’s great in spring.
Maaaaan....
I forgot how old Gfinish was.
Never heard of this g finish that crawfish pattern looked really hot
Low cost video idea: flip through old bassmasters and catalogs with us. Kinda like Blaukat used to do sometimes. Discuss the ads articles, tech, etc.
I have hundreds, so I could! Don’t think I’ve seen Randy do that…drop a link!
I still use a G finish spook in grey shad. I throw it at night around streetlights at boat ramps. It literally glows in low light conditions.
Wish they would bring back the G finish Redfin
I had a purple g finish baby spook. The finish eventually started peeling.

True, but it’s easy to spend $20 on a lure these days…
How about a g finish baby bass or the older bluegill

I totally agree!
