The Sandman: We speak to Tom Sturridge and Vivienne Acheampong

- Netflix's long awaited adaptation of the 26 time Eisner Awards winner, The Sandman, is finally coming to our screens and we got the chance to speak to Vivienne Acheampong, who plays Lucienne, the librarian of the Dreaming, and Lord Morpheus himself, Tom Sturridge! We talked about their first encounters with the comic, being a part of the fandom, and finding their voices within the character.
When the Sandman, aka Dream - the powerful cosmic being who controls all our dreams - is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for over a century, he must journey across different worlds and timelines to fix the chaos his absence has caused.

I don't know if this makes any sense, but I feel while Dream in the show seems so much older than he looks, Tom himself seems so much younger than he actually is. I would've put him in his mid- to late 20s based on this interview (more because of his energy, enthusiasm, etc. than his looks) if I didn't already know he was in his mid-30s. It's another point towards how good of an actor Tom is that he changed both the timber of his voice and his entire demeanor so completely to fit the role.
When I watched the show, I was wondering as well, how old this actor actually? He visually looks young, with body like a sculpture, but I can't shake the feeling that he is also feels old at the same time. He really nailed it to be the Dream.
Old Sandman fan interviewing new Sandman fans who just happen to be the actors in the series. Priceless. :D

I’m so glad you asked about the development of Dream’s voice! No other interview that I’ve found has asked that and I was dying to know the process they used! Thank you!
I love how he described it as having an authority and danger but also seductive.
Something similar I’ve wondered is whether or not that was Tom’s actual voice in the show or if they had to slightly modify it in some way in post. I don’t doubt that he can get his voice that low and hollow, but it still sort of blows my mind when I hear his normal speaking voice in interviews. Maybe it’s just me.

It’s so cool to see both of them getting excited when they’re complimented because it shows the true passion for the characters and this project. It wouldn’t have been as good as it is without this level of dedication and pure joy of the craft from this cast.

Sadly they went woke and made it impossible to not think woke woke woke when you saw it.
That make it kind of difficult to be in the world of Sandman when you look at it, because you are waken up in the woke world again and again and again.
It is a serial about woke politics just as much as it is about Sandman.
Neil Gaiman and Neil Gaiman is two very different people, the Neil Gaiman in the present is a sellout.
I tried hard and manage to swallow the first episode, even if it screamed WOKE WOKE to me all the time.
When he/they killed John Constantine with a lesbian woman(even if that actress is very easy to like) in the second episode, i realised that i was no longer watching Sandman, there was only in the shadows we still could see Sandman, everything else was woke woke and more woke.
I will recommend the Sandman cartoons, but if you already know them and still want to see the woke TV serial, be ready to swallow one woke elephant after another, or you will be extremely disappointed.
