    Just finished this audiobook and started googling to see if Rob's killers were ever found. One of the many tragedies is that Rob didn't get to experience cannabis legalization in NJ. Wish he would've gone to grad school fresh out of Yale...wish he would've taken that office job at the airport...wish he would've lived💔

    I recently went to the movie screening and I was soooo upset-he was such a treasure~!! Sadly, this type of story is not new-We often lose special people to this lifestyle-His story is unique simply because he had better choices and most don't really see a better choice. Sad story but not rare! :(

    If you remove the Yale/Ivy League factor, he was just like a lot of other college grads with conflicted backgrounds who sadly waste their energy in the drug game. I was able to identify with the stories in the book as well as the people, because it's just so common. One of the drawback of marijuana (for some people) is that it suppresses the expediency of getting your life together, especially when you're conflicted emotionally. What's not directly mentioned in the book, although illustrated on multiple occasions, is that he also appears to have been an alcoholic. If so, it's tough to get your life in order under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Sad story, because had his father remained in his life physically day-to-day, there's a good chance this story doesn't end this way.

    They act like he was some kind of Kingpin selling crack or strung out on heroin. As if he was some addict that couldn't let his habit go. He sold weed to his classmates to make ends meet. His classmates were buying weed anyways. Then he sold weed to help himself and his mother. I live across the street from a huge legal weed shop where they just have every weed imaginable. This place is a huge warehouse of weed. Robert's story wasn't that long ago and that weed shop has been there for a while now.

      YES! Fox5 made a big mistake there. They don't seem to know the Oranges and Newark and uses the names interchangeably. I just finished reading the book. It would have benefited from an author who knows what it is like to be black in elite white atmosphere and the fun of East Orange childhood, some things were missing from the book in terms of that, but you could tell the author was going hard as he could to give us all the details through research and interviews. Seemed like he wanted to do right by the young man that died.

      I read the book, “The Immortal life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot, and I had before and during my reading of said book. On the other hand, the book, “The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace” by Jeff Hobbs, was written by one of the few people willing to do a little bit of research in order to tie as many facts into a narrative as possible. The book doesn’t exist just because Robert Peace lived an exceptional life. The book exist because one White Man found Robert Peace’s life to be an interesting story to tell. It stinks, but that’s how some stories get written.

    • @kenitomendez
      @kenitomendez ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think the author made a deliberate effort to take advantage of his friend. It just played itself out that way. I've been in the same room with him on two occasions. He seems sincere. Some misrepresenting in the book, however, but he I feel was being as genuine as he knew how or capable of being.

    This is the problem with the black community and I speak from experience. So many of us come from bad situations and fatherlessness and drugs are destroying us. I am blessed to have a father that married my mum and was there my entire life but even he went to prison before I was born and its that what woke him up. This story is utterly tragic and we had a genius ripped from us too soon. Just such a shame that with all his smarts he wasn't smart enough to realise that the drugs would be what killed him one way or the other. Sad, sad, sad. Until we acknowledge the issue, we will never be able to fix it.
