"You're a slave to the money then you die" is such a great lyric and so true. The lyric makes me recognise how trapped we all are in the system and that we are not as free as we think we are. Our minds are condioned from day one and thankfully in the last few years teachings by Eckhart Tolle and others have helped me to become more aware of my consciousness and free from my egoic mind.
Being "a slave" to money, would be a symptom of our current materialistic age, where mistaken 'self-worth', accumulating excesses, and the further spreading of these values, have exacted a dangerous toll on this planet. This is greatly the problem we now see, involving social unrest, stemming from the "privileged" mindset at the expense of wholesome civic values. Then of course the physical environment suffers, which in turn, places all life in jeopardy. Eckhart, who I believe also is known as Meister Eckhart in Germany, is correct in his enlightened view. Money, as the medium we all need for practicality, continues to be sought after, despite the fact that we "can't take it with us!"
Richard Ashcroft and his band The Verve have made some really outstanding music. He's one of our finest singer/songwriter/performers. Guys, please check out his song 'Lucky Man'. You won't be sorry, trust me!
We couldn't see that you were watching the video--- so glad you heard the song with video. They add an element to each performance. This song is about apathy and the search for life's meaning amidst the everyday drudgery many of us must endure. You guys take care😉
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums of all time, "Urban Hymns". A few of my album favorites are "Lucky Man", "Sonnet", "The Drugs Don't Work", and "Space and Time" Great reaction guys
The Verve are class, this song comes from their classic album “Urban Hymns”. I saw them in concert at Slane Castle. You guys would love another English band called The Stone Roses. 🌹 Their song “This Is The One” might be a good starting point. The guitar-play is mind blowing. ✌️
These guys are from my home town, a place in the north west of England not really famous for anything, people often make jokes about it calling it a dump etc. But occasionally we have something for the town to be proud of, these guys are one of them. The verve from little old wigan
Also just to add, their song "the drugs dont work" is a masterpiece and very very moving. Written about the lead singers dad who had a battle with cancer and the cancer drugs failing. Hence the line "the drugs don't work, they just make you worse"
I remember the first time I heard this song, probably 1996 ish, was driving from VT to Princeton NJ To do a subcontract job, I was blown away.....still a fav. On my playlist all these years later, thanks bros!
I think I mentioned this song to you before, guys, but it was a long time ago. It is so beautiful, I love it, got it downloaded and listen to a lot. This melody is just phenomenal, once you hear it, you will never forget it. The version that Rockin' 1000 do is wonderful too, performed live from Cesena, Italy, in 2016. It's on TH-cam (over 3.5m views) and I watch it a lot, I love it, all these musicians playing this wonderful tune. Richard Ashcroft is the singer of The Verve and I've got a couple of his songs downloaded, namely Words Just Get In The Way and Break The Night With Colour. Love your reaction, guys, so glad you love this song as much as I do! Take care now.
It is based on a sample from the Andrew Loog Oldham orchestral cover of the Rolling Stones' song "The Last Time" and involved some legal controversy surrounding a plagiarism charge.
Interesting! That helps explain why it is so repetitive. Just the same musical phrase over and over. Probably more noticeable when you are not watching the video.
@@thedogwoods5716 they did. It's a long and complicated story. Recently Keith Richards stepped in and turn the rights back over to Richard Ashcroft, the leader and vocalist of the verve.

They were sued for plagiarism back in 1997 & lost the rights to all royalties for this song because it used a sample from a cover of the Rolling Stones' song 'The Last Time'. In 2019 the publishing rights to the song were gifted to them by Keith Richards & Mick Jagger. So they literally have only been able to make money off this song for like the last 3.5 yrs.
This song is on my playlist for years and on my FB page for a year or 2. I think it's amazingly beautiful. I thought that it was also in a movie but I am not sure. I saw so much movies during the Covid lockdown. Thank you for reacting to this and thanks to the people who asked you to do that. 👌

I've always liked this song and unfortunately it became more profoundly meaningful to me when my husband was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. I would just listen to this and realize how fleeting life is, you go along and do what it takes to get by, sometimes it'd be a battle but you'd come through it together, then along comes a battle you can't win and you wonder, "Is this what all of our struggles got us?" Yes, it's very bitter sweet. I continue to be all of the different people I must be so things go on as they should, I still have my family and they are really there for me when I need them, it'll be a year in September since my husband passed and I still expect him to walk through the door.
You are absolutely right.... we struggle along, distracted by all the day to day detail and forget what's most important until something stops us in our tracks .... we lost my older brother to lung cancer just over a year ago and miss him every day.... I send my condolences and wish you all the best / peace of mind and a tranquil heart

You guys said I wonder why this song was made. To understand this I would listen to three songs that came out at a similar time. Hi there, they've already reacted to Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis. I'm hoping though that they might react to the live version from the River Plate, Argentina - it's magical with the whole, huge crowd singing it along with Noel. Always gives me goose bumps and makes me feel so emotional!
