- In this video, you will learn how to play Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, or Silver on your TI-84 Plus CE Graphing Calculator using the TI-Boy CE Gameboy Emulator by calc84maniac. Pokemon Crystal will not work because it is strictly for the Gameboy Color and TI-Boy CE can only emulate Gameboy games.

Exactly what I was looking for. I was already loving this emulator, now it's amazing. Do you know why gameboy color isn't supported by the emulator? Is the hardware so different?
It's not super different, but Calc84Maniac is still working on getting everything working. GBC doesn't work now, but if it ever does in the future, I'll be sure to make a video to update!

Is there a fix for no color? Like its just black and white and i am playing the Gold version
Good Question! The reason that it's not full color is because TI-Boy CE is a Gameboy Emulator, not a Gameboy Color Emulator. This means that you won't be able to use the full color palette that Pokemon Gold or Silver would usually have. However, by going into the settings (press clear) and then the graphics settings, it is possible to change the palette you use. I use the dark blue palette in the video. It could be that in a future update there will be support for the GBC palette, but I don't know.
bonus to using 5.6 and artifice: way harder for your teacher to check for games on your calculator
This is true, though I wouldn't say it makes 5.6 worth it as you can hide programs from the program menu with Cesium!

Question: If the entirety of Gen 1 and 2/3s of Gen 2. are able to be played, why can’t Pokemon Crystal work?
Pokemon Crystal doesn't work because it was specifically made for the Gameboy Color, and not cross-compatible with the Gameboy. TI-BOY CE can only emulate Gameboy games, so that's why Crystal won't work.
Oh okay, thanks for letting me know, I was questioning that since I first heard that you can play pokemon on the 84 CE (or a 83 Premium CE as the devs claim). I’ll later on use this knowledge to download and fumble with pokemon on my calc. (Dw, I already have arTIfCE on my 5.6.1 84 CE from commandblockguy’s tutorial on how to get games on it a week ago) :D

Because of Nintendo, I can't legally tell you where to get them. It shouldn't be too hard to find out how with a little googling.

A lot of people have been getting an error when they try to run TI-Boy CE. This is most likely because in OS 5.5+, TI decided to remove support for games and programs made with the C or Assembly Programming languages. However, we can get back our games by installing a jailbreak called arTIfiCE! yvantt.github.io/arTIfiCE/

TI-Boy CE does not support full Gameboy Color color, but you can pick from a few different palettes in the TI-Boy CE graphics settings. For the video, I used the dark blue palette, but you might find one that you like better.

Sadly, I don't got enough storage on my calculator, and i'm not deleting PAC-MAN
You could try archiving things or deleting apps you don't use, such as other languages.

@@FriendlyPolar I was suggesting deleting the languages. For example, if you don't use the French or German language on your calculator you can go into the Memory and delete the app. Glad you got it working :)
Can I use a MacBook?
TI-Connect CE will work on Windows 10 or macOS, so using a MacBook will work as well.

I'm glad it worked for you! If you go into the graphics settings, you can change the color palette. It's not exactly full color (which is a planned feature in the future), but it's better than nothing! Hopefully that works!

You need to convert each ROM individually before sending it to your calculator. You don't need to re-send TI-Boy CE or any of TI-Boy's appvars, just the bundle from the ROM converter for each ROM.

I am a little confused by what you mean. You need a Pokemon Silver ROM, which you then put into the ROM convereter.

@@carlosledezma4186 To get the ROM you can either dump it from a cartridge or download it. (Note that downloading ROMs for games you don't own is technically illegal, but I can't really explain it all here.)
what if I got an error
If you got an error like "Invalid" then you probably need to jailbreak your calculator using arTIfiCE (yvantt.github.io/arTIfiCE). This is because on newer OS versions TI blocks running programs like this so you have to jailbreak it. I got the game on my calculator and it works perfectly fine but I can't see the colors like shown in the video everything just shaded the same color how do I fix that?
You'll need to change the palette in the graphics settings. There are different palette options, I picked the dark blue one for my video but you can pick whichever you like best. :)

Are you sending things to archive? If you aren't, then that's your problem. You can also try archiving programs that are in your RAM.

This is because OS 5.6+ blocks the running of ASM programs. However, there's a way to go around this by installing a jailbreak called arTIfiCE. (yvantt.github.io/arTIfiCE )

Yes! I would recommend updating to 5.3. You can download it here: tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=1138252
After that you shouldn't get the error anymore. Just make sure to not install anything after v 5.3.0! This is because in later versions TI has removed a lot of features, meaning that most games and programs do not work anymore.
Whenever I try to transfer a rom after i've already transferred another, It just replaces it. How to fix?
If your ROMs are named the same thing (the five letter name you put in the website) then the newer will replace the older one. You'll need to name them different things if you don't want them to be replaced.

You won't lose any files, don't worry :)
Can you save the game?
You can save the game the same way you would save it on the Gameboy! You can also save and load state using [Sto ->] and [Ln(] respectively.

Because you're on a chromebook, the TI-Connect CE app is different. Do you have a different computer you could try it on?

That means you're probably missing one of the appvars. Try sending over the .b84 again, and if that doesn't work, convert the rom again and try it.

@@animefan_forlife8325 The chrome app doesn't work for everything. Try it using ticalc.link (a browser transfer software) or on a different computer and let me know if it works.
Is there a way of resetting game data without deleting whole program? Also I wasn't able to find where to change the color pallete.
You can change the color palette by going into settings and then graphics. To reset the game, there should be an option in the settings called "Reset ROM". To enter settings, simply press [CLEAR] while in a game.

Hey this is a great guide and helped me a lot but after when I got to transferring the b84 file it just didn’t work I’m doing this on the ti 84 cr chrome app which Ik isn’t ideal but I’m able to able open ti boy and get a message saying no ram present if you know what I can do I’d appreciate it a lot
Most likely the problem is that you're using the Chrome version of the app. Could you try using a different version of the app and let me know if it works.

I am using TI-84 Plus CE. I put everything on the ti connect CE. But when i open up program on the calculator, i go to tiboyce, hit enter twice, then it shows as “ERROR: ARCHIVED”. And i only have the options to “Quit” or “Goto”. Do you have any idea of how you can help?
What version of TI-OS are you on? I would recommend updating to 5.3. Don't update any further, though. You can download it here: tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=1138252
After that you shouldn't get the error anymore. Just make sure to not install anything after v 5.3.0! Otherwise you might not be able to run games anymore!

@@jacksonzou697 You can un-archive the program with an option in the catalog, but it takes up RAM. If you have a newer OS version, you can run archived programs, so that's why I recommended that.
Everything was fine until the very end, the game will not show up on the program screen. Help?
What exactly are you seeing? You should see a program called "TIBOYCE" in the program screen which you run and then the name of your game in TIBOYCE.

Sounds like you need to use the arTIfiCE jailbreak! On newer OS versions, TI blocked directly using assembly programs like this, so it takes an extra step. I actually made an updated video on my channel because of this! Here's a link to the jailbreak: yvantt.github.io/arTIfiCE

Good question! Most recent models of Graphing Calculators will also have old video game emulators. What model are you interested in?
So when I load up pokemon silver... the color pallet does not look like it does in your video? Mine seems to be more of a brown pallet on default?
You should be able to change that by going into the graphics settings. While you can't do the GBC pallet (for now), there are different pallets you can choose from and use the one you like best. I personally use the blue ones but that's just me! :D

Make sure you've backed up or put any files on the calculator you want to keep in Archive, and then press the reset button on the back of the calculator.

It seems like you're probably on a newer OS that doesn't support ASM or C programs any more. To solve this you can jailbreak with arTIfiCE. (yvantt.github.io/arTIfiCE/ )

@@jippie9099 It's perfectly safe and should not affect anything, other than allowing you to run the programs you should already be able to run on it. Also, if you're worried, it won't allow cheating either, so it's fine to use the calc in school.

I’ve delved into the memory and everything is archived except for the L1-L6 files which online it says they should be in ram. I’m new to this and I’m just trying to give you as much information as I can so hopefully you could help me out. I understand if you can’t though because this is complicated

Sadly you can't get the full GBC color pallet on the calculator. You can, however, make some changes to the color pallet by pressing [Clear] in the game and going into the emulator's Graphics Settings.

You'll need to delete the appvars.

@@healman11 No, you do it in the memory management menu. [2nd] + [mem] to open the menu, then [2] to open memory management, then scroll down and find AppVars. Then use the delete button to delete the ones for the ROM.

How do I get both the program and the Roms to run on a USB?
You have to have ROMs on the calculator. Only programs can be on the USB, but the ROMs are appvars.
where do you download the games
I'm not legally allowed to tell you, because of Nintendo copyright stuff, but if you look hard enough you can find them. The legal way is to dump them yourself though.
Do DS or GBA emulators work on it?
Sadly not. There is a GBA emulator for some newer TI-Nspire models, however.
Does this work on the newer versions?
If you're talking about newer versions of Pokemon , no. It will work on newer versions of TI-84 Plus CE with the use of the jailbreak arTIfiCE.

You can sometimes find deals as low as $20 - $30 if you keep a look out for used models on sites like shopgoodwill.com/
Right now, there's a few auctions on shopgoodwill I can see with bids below $10. Obviously they'll go up a bit when the bidding ends but it's still a lot cheaper than the price new! Obviously be careful when buying used stuff, but it's a good way to save some money :)

I own a TI-84 Plus CE and for some reason I can’t extract the TIBOYCE file onto the calculator on my chromebook. I don’t understand, the other TI files were imported perfectly fine but not this one. Anything I have to do to fix this?
The problem is that you're using the ChromeOS version of TI Connect CE, which is a little weird and different from the normal version. Do you have access to another computer you could send the files from?
I could try to download the app from a pc or a macbook instead of a chromebook, which is more effecient?

Are the colors off for you on this game? For example, comparing the game screens of pokemon silver on my calculator to actual yt videos of emulators, the calculator colors are off and dont have same colors.? PLZ ANSWER
So TI-Boy CE emulates Pokemon Silver in gameboy mode, which means that it doesn't use the full color pallet that most people playing Pokemon Silver see. The last time I heard, calc84maniac is working on adding Gameboy Color pallets to the game, but as of yet you have to use different gameboy pallets. If you don't like the default one, you can press "Clear" to go into the menu, and then go into Settings -> Graphics, and change the pallet in there. However, you still can't get full color. The pallet I use in the video is dark blue.
