Okay g here it goes.... I was a student doing my matriculation from an institution in Muzaffargarh and used to travel via train to and from my home in Rawalpindi. The year was probably 2016 and Thal Express was not operational but Khushal Khan Khattak was still running then. One night I was on 128 Dn Mehar Express on my way to Muzaffargarh. It was winter and the weather was mighty cold. The train reached Bhakkar station and did not move for quite a while. Initially I thought the cross with 19 Up Khushal express was taking long. But when it took too long, I decided to leave my warm berth and blanket and go out into the cold to investigate😅. For context, I have been a rail fan all my life and been travelling on ML-2 branch line mostly between my hometown Rawalpindi and my grandfather's home in Layyah. Have done many cab rides in HBU-20 and GMCU-15 locomotives. So, getting curious about the delay at Bhakkar station that night was very natural of me😂. So, I looked towards the downside track and saw the headlight of 19 Up locomotive's but it was stationary, meaning Khushal express was standing at the starter signal position and not moving. I thought maybe there was a problem with the signal but it wasn't so as I saw many people from the platform walking towards the Khushal express meaning something was wrong. So I walked too all the way up to the Khushal express and found that 3-4 coaches behind the locomotive had derailed as the curved portion of the track transitioning from the single main line to the right loop line had been ripped from the base. Now, at least 5 of the last coaches were still on-track on the main line. The railway staff was arguing among themselves regarding what to do. Sb apni science lara rhy thy😂. Actually the loop line to the left was clear and if somehow the last 5 on-track coaches of Khushal express could be cut, it would clear the way to Bhakkar station's platform using the left loop line. So finally, a relief engine was requested and a GMCU-15 painted red came all the way from mehmood kot loco shed. During all this time, I got really friendly with a passenger traveling on Khushal express who was traveling from Kot Addu to Attock. He was a rail fan too aur jb 2 railfans mil jyen aesi interesting situation ma tu phir ap andaza kr skty hn how far and long the discussion goes😂. Hm dono gupshup lgate lgate Khushal express ki 5 on-track coaches ma se aik coach ma beth gye. Because ma ne bhi apni science larai thi aur samjha k relief engine inn 5 coaches ko bhakkar station ke platform pr le k jae ga via the left loop line. So, you can imagine the terror I faced when the relief engine attached with the brake van of Khushal express and instead of moving towards the Bhakkar station, started moving in the opposite down direction 😢. Bhai meri tu halat tight hoo gyi aur mere saath uss railfan bhai ki bhi. We checked on Google maps that the first station on the down side after Bhakkar is Notak. So I somewhat hoped that my train 128 Dn will make a stop at Notak and I will climb onboard since the way for 128 Dn had cleared for main line via the left loop line. But..... Notak phnch k pta chala k 128 Dn ka tu yahn stop hi nhi haa.... Now the situation was, Meri train jis me mera saara samaan para hua haa woh mere saamne se Notak station se guzr jae gii aur ma dekhta reh jaon gaa, thanks to the science ju ma ne larai thi k relief engine coaches ko Bhakkar station le k jae gaa😂😢. Now me, a 15 years old matriculation student on his own at the tiny unknown station of Notak in the freezing cold night missing his train in the most unimaginably stupid manner. Ma ne boht zorr lgaya ASM k saath k train ko Notak or rukwa len yaa atleast slow krwa den but wo nhi maane. He said k train is already so late and Lahore headquarters is at the staff's throats to expedite. I contacted my own references in railways and was able to get the number of the driver on 128 Dn. His name was Qasim Shah if I remember correctly. So I called the driver and literally begged him to stop the train at Notak. He said not possible, unless the Notak station's staff exchange the PLC by hand. I went and talked to the ASM again, he said there's no way we will exchange by hand because the train is already so late. They were gonna exchange the PLC using the side hook which the locomotive can pick without the need for slowing down. Matlab yeh k agr by hand exchange hoti tu driver could slow down or even stop the train momentarily but with a hook, he did not have a need to slow down. Now my worst nightmare was coming true. Soon I saw the headlight of 128 Dn locomotive approaching the Notak station and it was coming in really fast. As a last desperate attempt to stop the train, I went to the other side of the track and started waving my mobile phone's flashlight at the approaching train. Driver sb ne bari bedardi se akhri umeed bhi torr di aik zordar whistle lga k, probably telling me to move away from the track😂. Ab Meri aankhon k saamne se Meri train jaa rhi thi, mera saara saaman usme maujood aur ma Notak jesa chote veeran station pr khara dekh rha tha. It was 0300 by then, slightly foggy and freezing cold weather. Meri tu chaddar bhi train ma thi tu sardi aur zyada lg rhi thi. Station walon ne kha k ab ap station k piche wala road pakro aur ye road apko main road tk le jae gaa. Unho ne yeh nhi btaya k main road kitna dur tha aur raasta kitna khoofnak tha😂. Anyhow, that other railfan bro had been with me throughout and had been consoling me. He said don't worry about your stuff on the train, I will have my cousin take it at Kot Addu station and it will be safe there. So, I was somewhat relieved. Then, I started to walk towards the main road as the Notak station's staff had advised me. And boy, it was cold and scary! Foggy weather, total blackness and only relying on my phone's small flashlight, dogs barking all around, it seemed like I was walking through a graveyard because there were no signs of population and only tall dark scary trees and few graves here and there. Even crossed a small irrigation canal. Finally after 10 minutes of walk I reached the main road passing through the middle of the small town of Notak. There was nobody there and only one shop was open. I asked the guy about any road transport and he said a bus will come after some time and it will go to Multan. So I waited for almost 30 min in the freezing cold till the bus showed up and I boarded. That was the end of my misery for the most part and I made it to Kot Addu at around 0800 and collected my stuff from the cousin whose phone number I had. Then finally boarded a van all the way to Muzaffargarh. I have tried my best to explain my horror and my feelings but I feel there are certain events in everyone's life which words fall short of describing. Mere liye bhi ye aik aesa hi experience tha ju ma jitna bhi Koshish krlon thek se bayan nhi kr skta. Since then, I continued travelling on the same route till completed my matriculation in 2017, then did my FSc in 2019, finished my Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management and now I am a Flight Operations Officer under training at Islamabad International airport. Rail aur aircraft dono hi mere junoon rahe hn hamesha se. Aircrafts have become my profession now and as for railfanning, I have awesome TH-cam creators like Mr Raza sb and Rizwan Tahir bhai jinki videos dekh kr railfanning ka shoq poora hota rehta haa aur boht si memories relive krta hon, jese k Notak station ki memories.
