Having been diagnosed in 1987 age 38 this is the first time I have understood exactly how the thyroid works! I have Hashimoto’s which I only found out a few years ago after a private test in Australia on a visit. The testing in the U.K. is woefully inadequate probably due to lack of funding. Thank you so much for such a deep dive into this condition.

Really interesting and informative discussion. The links made to Coeliacs was particularly interesting. What would be the best way to find a good functional/integrative doctor in the UK?

Very informative but over whelming from a patient perspective

Very interesting but I sat through almost 1.5 hours of HYPO and, despite the chart on the screen, there was ZERO on HYPERTHYROID! Very disappointed indeed

Lactose intolerance doesn't generally result in problems eating aged cheese or properly made yoghurt, so was it 'stress/mindset' or wasn't he actually ingesting much lactose anyway?

Very interesting deep dive into this subject! Thank you for explaining so much about the testing for, and treatment of hypothyroidism. I’m now looking for a registered practitioner of functional medicine in the UK. Wish me luck! 😊

Thank you for the discussion it seems very complicated topic which depends on numerous factors.
Would you recommend those who have hypothyroidism (not sure if I have hashimoto) to take supplements like magnesium, iodine or are all supplements a waste of time like Prof Tim Spector has mentioned before?

In the uk, management and treatment of thyroid conditions is absolutely shocking. Many GPs and Endocrinologists are very poorly trained and just not interested, (in my experience) and we are left to suffer life threatening side effects and provided with cheap, bog standard, ineffective medication which does not improve patient symptoms. This very lazy, ignorant, dangerous approach to thyroid issues must change, our health is suffering and lives cut short as a result. Bring back the effective (more expensive) medication they took off the market in 2006 that was more effective because our lives actually matter!
