It just keeps getting worse as they go. On another video someone said they might have been doing it on purpose to make kids laugh so they wouldn't be so nervous about the testing. They had way too much fun filming that and every one of their kids got made fun of at school.
US TV is so weird. They love throwing in bad puns or weird twists without warning, like they're trying for those horrible CSI comments in the cold open. The less thoughtful of the family, the better.

Unless he paid the entire price of the place up front in cash, he would have monthly mortgage payments, also called house payments. Not paying rent, house payments. Any fees with the purchase are either paid up front, including points depending on the loan, or put on the back of the loan. That is in addition to a down payment, which helps bring the mortgage down. I can't imagine that everyone who buys a house where you are only pays the entire purchase price in cash up front. That sounds unrealistic. But if they do, that would make for a very unrestrained housing market.
