    I do the same exact thing as Rocket! Whenever I’m super stressed it always helps me to call my mom and talk things out with her and prioritize. It’s a very helpful technique, 10/10 would recommend. ❤️

    Uhg I loved this! I would LOVE more content like this. I was a commercial graphic designer for years and I finally stopped to pursue my own art direction rather than be “hands for hire” - watching an illustrators process is kinda same same but different and it’s really inspiring to see you do both at the same time (as in, commercial and personal work). Thanks for making dope vids homie ❤️

    This was incredibly helpful. Can you more talk about what the first round of sketches should look like? I understand they’re not finished illustrations, but how unpolished can they be, how rough is rough? #answermepeach #please

    • @furrylittlepeach
      @furrylittlepeach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      sure, if I forget in the next studio vlog just remind me in the comments. to answer ur qs now with no visual reference:
      It can depend on how familiar the client is with your work, and also the budget of the project. I privately brainstorm which is SO LOOSE, you can kind of see the different stages in the studio vlog i linked in the description of this video. Then I'll trace them loosely and build a deck for initial ideas - feel free to include moodboards/style examples if your sketches aren't clean enough, then refined would be super clear example of what things will look like (with loose render if colour is integral to the artwork).
      I don't think they need to be polished, but the idea and any important elements (like composition and subject matter) should be interpretable. Otherwise there's no use in providing them. No where near finished artwork though! let me know if anything isnt clear or if u have any more questions!

    Hi Sha'n! Just wanted to pop in and say that after I watched your other recent video of you showing a bit of your deck process, I used Keynote to finish my brand presentation deck! I've been procrastinating for months and Keynote was so easy to use that I built my deck in one day. I'm getting ready to send it out to different licensing agents and brands. Love this video - was interesting to see an artist's perspective on this. I follow almost the exact same process as a freelance copywriter, but replacing the concept sketches and colour swatches with synopses and keywords/hashtags.
    While briefs are the client's way of outlining their expectations of the project, I think decks are the freelancer's/creative's way of outlining elements of the project and how/when we will deliver them.

    Thank you Sha'an! I would love more videos like this and find them very helpful. I am a professional artist primarily, so I find the process of working with a client completely mysterious! I have been doing mire illustration work lately and questions on areas such as 'social amplification', copyright and promotion of the project have been a topic of interest. Thanks for touching on it - how to 'educate' clients who do not understand art and ideas, or who want you to make changes that are,'t wise is a great topic. Also, you are really good at teaching this stuff and it IS really helpful! Slow down and don't doubt it, what you're giving us is GOLD. Thank you.

    My go to program is inDesign all day! But then again I’m a graphic designer not an illustrator but I really love the idea of using Keynote as well! Definitely not a dinosaur!! Word is dreadful for me 🤣🤣🤣

    I loved this video and found you talking through the small things super helpful. Like the reason to put Required Feedback on initial sketches but not refined ones - makes total sense, but I didn’t think of that and that’s caused me to ask for feedback at times when I really just want *approval* or *tweaks* bc we’ve already gone back and forth so many times. Definitely would love more videos like this!

    Just wanted to start by saying love you and the work you create! This and your children book guide are some of my favourite videos because they are just so helpful for an up and coming illustrator like myself. I wanted to ask, when you get a brief with a proposed budget, do you negotiate if the budget is not around your level? Or do you propose your quote first for some clients? Pricing is always something of an intimidating area that makes me nervous. #answermepeach
