@@uaeats how severe is your shellfish allergy? Years ago, I had a severe allergy to walnuts and also had an anaphylactic reaction to the nuts. I went to an allergist and then he gave me a prescription for an EpiPen. Every time you’re exposed to the allergen, your algae may get worse and worse. it might be a good thing to go see an allergist and then get a prescription for an EpiPen. I know in the US you probably have to pay out of pocket for an EpiPen, but here in Canada the EpiPen is usually $100 and if you have insurance, it will be covered.
Well done, UA and Tina's critique were on point. The waiter was first class. His genuine concern about your allergy is very commendable. Keep up the great work! I'm looking forward to your next review. We have some awesome Korean restaurants in Los Angeles.
Very considerate waiter, at first I thought he was being over the top. But he went out of his way to make sure you didn't have an allergic reaction to anything. Food looks amazing and good service makes it an awesome dining experience. Would go there if I was ever in NYC K-town :))
It's really great to hear that concern from the waiter. I don't have any allergies like that, but I've had waiters who have been so nonchalant about friends' dietary concerns or who just don't know the ingredients of a given dish. Even though it sucks not to be able to get what you want, and I'm sure it hurts the restaurants' bottom line, it's so much better not to compromise on customers' safety and health. Unexpected things in a video like this reveal more about a restaurant and customer experience than your average review. Thanks for that! I'll be sure to check them out (also cause the food looks 🔥)!
Sounds like great Korean food for the right price. Also , the server was very considerate and thoughful. Hope he got tipped nicely. Thank you for the food tour. P.S. Will you be reviewing some japanese restaurants
Hey UA, FYI Koreans don’t scrape the spoon with their teeth when eating a spoonful of rice. Idea is to use the lips to eat so that when the spoon comes back out there’s no food on it. Anyway great vids !
Admittedly not too knowledgeable about Korean food/culture, yet, but UA being informative definitively makes for another great vid. Well done Sir UA, well done again.
Chodanggol serves most authentic Korean food at a reasonable price for Manhattan Ktown area. This is go to restaurant for Koreans when in Ktown only thing that turns them down is long wait. It is also owned by hand hospitality which is super star restaurant group.
Excellent video as usual, U.A.. Since you are a steak connoisseur and a big fan of Korean food, may I suggest a trip to Cote. It's one of my favorite restaurants in NY. I know it's very hard to get into, but after watching your videos for a long time, I think you (and Tina) would love it. Try the steak omakase and taste some of the best cuts of meat in the world.. Do you have any plans to try Cote?
It's fun when Tina gives her own opinion as well. Hey UA, perhaps when you hit 100k subs, you will introduce Tina on camera For sure many subscribers are wondering who is the mysterious lady eating with UA :)
You pronounce “dang” as “dahng” not dang (like “oh dang”). The same way you correctly say the “jang” in gochujang, you’re supposed to say dang the same way
Tofu looks great! It was nice the waiter was so attentive to your allergies/dietary restrictions. I don't eat shellfish for religious reasons and find it difficult to eat at most places (other than strictly vegan/vegetarian or kosher restaurants) as a result.
I think TH-cam pays by the seconds. Japan Eats does short TH-cam videos which are under 2 minutes and cover more ground than one UA video. Less is more.
The rice might have been cooked with mirin. When I do rice in my rice cooker, I don't wash it and use 1 part mirin to 4 parts water. It looks very similar to this rice, gets crispy on the bottom, and has a slight sweet flavor too.
This joint has been open "since 1997"? Korean Village restaurant opened on Bloor Street in Toronto in 1978 and it's still fantastic. I think the grand kids are involved, nowadays.
Cho Dang Gol is one of my favorite restaurants so happy to see it positively reviewed. Sadly, as UA noted, the recipes have changed somewhat in recent years and imo not for the better (perhaps it’s just nostalgia though). But still a very solid place a couple blocks north of K-Town
Costco sometimes has good bulgoki beef and noodles. Beef is shaved and marinated-uper tender with a little sweetness. I lived in China for 5 yrs but can't speak any Korean. I missed out on the Korean hotdogs at Costco but I had them in Seoul.
Hey UA, would you mind sharing what you did before social media? Would be inspiring to know how you lived in NYC and made the transition to full time content creator. Thanks from upstate
90% of Canadians live too close to the border for the weather to be that different in their respective areas compared to the US counterparts. My area is about 45-55F during winter most days.
With them making their own tofu, why not try out some of the vegan/vegetarian restaurants? Just for variance. New York should have a few good ones Ma pa tofu and I’m sure I spelled it wrong, but tofu in like a black bean sauce, I prefer a bit spicy but the good kitchens make it really well
For someone claiming to say he likes all Asian food except the one Chinese BBQ place has never done a video on southern/Cantonese style Chinese food? Never seen you do Dim Sum either.
In my Korean opinion, there were a lot of misses at this restaurant. Examples: Bulgogi looked anemic, color of beef was washed out, almost gray like it was steamed vs grilled or dry sauteed. Rice was overcooked, too much water, soft and mushy. You should see individual rice grains, not broken and stuck together. Fried chicken was undercooked; pink and soft are no bueno. Lastly, a stone pot cooked bibimbap should produce a crispy rice crust at the bottom which you pay extra for. The fact there was none is inexcusable and a total fail. Korean restaurants in Flushing, Queens are a better choice and more authentic than Manhattan. That's where local NY Koreans go to eat, not touristy and pricey Midtown Manhattan. And if you visit LA, go to Koreatown (Western Ave/Wilshire District) which stretches miles on end. You will be amazed. Best Korean food in North America hands down.
Damn UA, a man always orders for his girl first or lets her order first. You ordered for yourself and then had her order after you. Not good, not good.
He also can’t eat clams or oysters.. they’re all considered a shellfish allergy. No restaurant will give you any of the above if you say you have a shellfish allergy
I mean, technically it’s anything with a shell, my comment was sort of pointless considering all the things we both mentioned have shells 🤷🏼♀️ for anyone picturing a seashell, stop now. You peel shrimp, you take the meat out of the lobster and crab shells. Shells come in many forms, hence, shellfish 😊
You really need to quit SEAFOOD all together if allergies are a big deal to do. It's really not worth the aggravation. I would have walked out and grabbed a slice. Doing too much, can't enjoy myself.
I have 2 Vernis pieces that friends often ask about and when I tell them the truth is fake, no one believes me. So now, I still like to buy kislux bags. However, it makes me sick to think that there are still a few websites selling fake products as genuine products.
See, Asian/Korean food makes even a super pricey Steakhouse seem "remedial" in taste imo. There's NO type of American steak that falls in comparison versus a good Bulgogi accompanied with kimchi & sticky rice. I feel Korean Food is like being PlayStation 5 & typical American is Atari or Coleco Vision imo.
Sorry but Korean restaurants in Pal Park and Fort Lee NJ, are WAY better than the ones in Manhattan.I'll say the ones in Flushing are probably better than the ones in NJ but Manhattan got NOTHING on NJ for Korean foods. Try the Yuni jjajang at this place) - Wooga in Fort Lee for Korean BBQ Just to name a few are my favorites in the Pal Park/Fort Lee area.
Props to the waiter for caring about UA's allergies,........most wouldn't be THAT concerned.

UA, they give you the soy sauce with scallions and korean pepper flakes which you're supposed to put into the unstrained white tofu bowl.
Fantastic video keep them coming and faster 😁👍

Korean food is the best. They bring out the flavours of the ingredients perfectly.
If you think that's good you should try some of the spots in Fort Lee, or the Murray Hill area of Queens.

That was a regular bibimbap and not a dolsot or hot stone bibimbap hence the lack of the crispy rice.
