  • To help celebrate the announcement of Rikki's first album and tour in 28 years, here is 'The Saddest Sound'.
Written by Rikki's late brother, Ian Morris, 'The Saddest Sound' opens the album.
    Rikki says:
‘After Th’ Dudes broke up in 1980, Ian recorded a bunch of acoustic demos. He gave me a cassette tape of the songs he had recorded and I fell in love with one in particular, called ’The Saddest Sound’. During one of the covid lockdowns, I found the cassette whilst clearing out some boxes. After dusting off my cassette player and reminiscing over these long lost demos, I knew I had to record ‘The Saddest Sound’. I’m fairly certain it would’ve been a Dudes song, had they stayed together.’
Rikki's new album, titled 'About Time', is released on August 30 2024.
He will also be playing shows in Auckland (Aug 30), Nelson (Aug 31), Christchurch (Sept 1), Tauranga (Sept 6), Hamilton (Sept 7) and New Plymouth (Sept 8).

Look, hard, broken mirror for your cracked smile
Man, don't make me laugh, oh baby oooh
    When I hear you cry..
    Oooh, oooh
That's the saddest sound I ever heard...
    You, found friends in trouble
Push, push, yell the devil out, oh baby oooh
    When I hear you cry..
    Oooh, oooh
    That's the saddest sound I ever heard x 3
    Take me in your stride
    Break me with your pride
    Oooh, oooh
That's the saddest sound I ever heard
    You, living under bridges
Up, down, backing off again, oh baby oooh,
    That's no way to talk
    Oooh, oooh
That's the saddest sound I ever heard
    That's the saddest sound...

"That was the bluest note I ever read/red (heard" (maj7)) by DD Smash comes to mind...interesting. Both songs being from the same era.Cheers.

Great sounding and a lovely way to honour your bro! I love the painted image of you, did you paint it yourself, Rikki?

Thanks! Painting by Steve Kilbey, singer and bass player with Aussie band The Church. Steve is a wonderful artist.

Thanks Ferg, I appreciate that! Not this time round mate...though I'm keen to do more dates in the future. Maybe we can look at something then?
