Dont let Flick's tongue on the flagpole stress you out. They used a small tube about the size of a straw with suction to hold his tongue there. Flick was his nickname. BTW, the flagpole was on location at the Victoria School in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. The leg lamp isn't as arbitrary as people think. It was real and used to advertise for Nehi (get it, knee high) soda company. Even in the TV Show MASH, Radar's favorite drink was Grape Nehi. Holiday dinners at Chinese restaurants took off after the release of this film.
Every year when we'd watch this growing up, my mom would remind us, during the scene at 6:13, about how we should be happy we lived in Florida and not Canada. And how her family had to bundle up like that whenever they went out.😅 The scene on Christmas morning, when Ralphie opens up his bedroom window, and magical twinkling music plays as he looks at everything glazed in snow and ice, is probably my favorite Christmas movie scene ever.
*FUN FACT* the mother's reaction to the Chinese carolers and the roast duck was real She was given a different script from the rest of the cast and was completely unaware of the scene that was being shot So her laughter and her reaction to the duck is genuine
While we were out riding around looking at decorations, we saw a house that had the full-sized leg lamp in their main window. Was proud to call them fellow citizens of our town!
The story took place in the early 1940's! You cannot expect the cultural mores and familial relationships to reflect how things are viewed today. Even in the fifties, when I was in elementary school, for a young kid to say the F word, was almost unthinkable.
Great reaction you two 😁 I recommend the sequel (which is also very good & heartwarming as well in my opinion) 'A Christmas Story Christmas' (from 2022) features an adult Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) with his own wife & kids now, returning to his hometown for Christmas (with almost the entire cast, although much older, all returning too). It is definitely worth a watch for a reaction 👍. Merry Christmas ladies 🎄 & have a happy New Year 🥳
Seems most people don't know of the sequel called My Summer Story that's supposed to take place the next Summer after this film. Granted, recast with all new actors, but same characters
The guy who played Ralphie said that he was not acting when it came to the leg lamp lol He was a preteen looking at a nearly nude female leg! And, due to this movie, it is my dream to receive a present with shiny red wrapping paper, just like Ralphie's gun.

That's good 😊
Came here to make the same comment about Flick’s tongue lol
Yes👌🏼 they would never actually stick a kids tongue to a pole 😂
Love these facts!

The guy in line to see Santa who tells Ralph where the line starts is the actual narrator of the movie.

BEST Christmas movie ever!
The sequel A Christmas Story Christmas (don't watch A Christmas Story 2) was pretty good. I also like how it ends too, it comes full circle.

My All Time Favorite Christmas Movie, I Watch This Movie All Day Long On Christmas, It's a Tradition In My Family
I read somewhere that the tongue on the pole was actually a vacuum that sucked his tongue. Love the channel❤
You are correct. Scotty Schwartz (who played Flick), had a ball filming that scene.

The neighbor standing next to the Old Man when he's showing off his major award is Bob Clark, the director.
Merry Christmas Everyone ⛄❄️
