    Lyrics:
    I know the pieces fit
'Cause I watched them fall away
    Mildewed and smouldering
    Fundamental differing
    Pure intention juxtaposed
Will set two lovers' souls in motion
    Disintegrating as it goes
    Testing our communication
The light that fueled our fire then
Has burned a hole between us so
We cannot seem to reach an end
    Crippling our communication
    I know the pieces fit
'Cause I watched them tumble down
    No fault, none to blame
    It doesn't mean I don't desire
To point the finger, blame the other
    Watch the temple topple over
To bring the pieces back together
    Rediscover communication
    The poetry that comes from
    The squaring off between
And the circling is worth it
    Finding beauty in the dissonance
There was a time that the pieces fit
But I watched them fall away
    Mildewed and smouldering
    Strangled by our coveting
I've done the math enough to know
The dangers of our second guessing
Doomed to crumble unless we grow
    And strengthen our communication
    Cold silence has
    A tendency to
    Atrophy any
    Sense of compassion
    Between supposed lovers
    Between supposed lovers
    I know the pieces fit
    I know the pieces fit
    I know the pieces fit
    I know the pieces fit
    I know the pieces fit
    I know the pieces fit
    I know the pieces fit
And I know the pieces fit

My brother introduced me to Tool when I was 19, he was 17. I'm now 43 and he's been gone a year and a half. 2 years before that, our mother died. After that, we fought and didn't speak for over a year. We only started talking again because I sent him a video (I can't remember which one but pretty sure it was MGK). I'm so glad I decided to send him that because it opened up a tiny line of communication. My brother and I were very close a lot in our lives. So fighting and not speaking with him killed me, especially since I didn't have our mom to talk to about it. Anyway, shortly after we started talking again, he hung himself. He was an alcoholic who knew his body couldn't really take anymore. We don't KNOW, but it gives us comfort to believe that's why he left us so horribly.
I told all of that awfulness to say this, I used to think Sober was "his song". When I heard it, he is who came to mind. He struggled whis entire adult life with addiction. But I just saw Tool had been playing some older songs and saw Schism was one, which is one of my favorites.
Went to listen and lost it. I watched the pieces crumble down. It's killing me. I have to stay for a multitude of reasons but some days I just want to be with my family.
And yes, I have family. My dad, his family, my partner and children, friends. But those 2 people are my FAMILY. We're fricking crazy, but we loved one another. Despite it all. Through it all.
Don't mean to be a downer, I'd just never really equated this song to my brother. Tool in general, 100%, other songs, sure.
    ✌️💜🍕

This is such an ingenious song. The music conveys a sort of frustration and longing at certain points and hesitant surrender at others but anxiety and dread through it all. The lyrics perfectly convey the really delicate balance between passion and apathy two people must simultaneously walk to keep from falling off the tightrope that is a relationship.

It bothers me that everyone now loves this band and most don’t even really know why they like them. It’s beyond annoying when I had the eye tattooed on me back in 96’ and most people then had zero idea who this band was, and the people that loved them still couldn’t find out much about them. It’s annoying when half the people are just showing up to say they did. Lucky to have seen them 9 times as a legit fan.

"Schism" by Tool is a musical and lyrical journey that delves into the complexities of human relationships and the inevitable fractures that can occur within them. Released in 2001 as part of the album "Lateralus," the song's title reflects its central theme - a schism or division between individuals. In this brief essay, we'll explore the layers of meaning embedded in "Schism."
The lyrics of "Schism" paint a vivid picture of disconnection and disintegration. The opening lines, "I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them fall away," set the tone for introspection, suggesting a keen awareness of the breakdown of unity. The choice of words, such as "cold," "silent," and "empty," conveys a sense of emotional distance and isolation, emphasizing the emotional toll of fractured relationships.
The recurring theme of pieces not fitting and the analogy of a jigsaw puzzle evoke the challenges of reconciling differences. The imagery suggests that, once broken, the components may not seamlessly come back together. This struggle is mirrored in the song's dynamic musical composition, featuring shifting time signatures and intricate instrumentation, reflecting the tension and discord described in the lyrics.
The chorus introduces the idea of a schism within oneself, acknowledging the dangers of second-guessing and internal conflict. The line "I've done the math enough to know the dangers of our second guessing" speaks to the psychological toll of overanalyzing and questioning, leading to a fragmented sense of self.
As the song progresses, it builds in intensity, creating a sonic landscape that mirrors the escalating conflict within the narrative. The instrumental breaks showcase Tool's prowess in creating a visceral and emotionally charged musical experience.
"Schism" invites listeners to reflect on the challenges inherent in maintaining unity and understanding in relationships. It suggests that, despite our efforts to comprehend and connect, there are forces that can lead to inevitable divisions. The song's enduring impact lies in its ability to resonate with those who have grappled with the complexities of human connections, offering a sonic and lyrical exploration of the fractures that can occur both externally and within our own psyches.

This song has true meaning in life as a whole, in humanity as a whole… Not just relationships between lovers, but everyone… We are separated between various countries, languages too, as well as our views on not just how a country should be ran with its own government structure, but religion as well…
Jesus Christ, I never thought would have been real, till he proved his existence onto me, via dreams and facts about having lived AND risen from the dead. This song, “Schism”, it truly highlights how all of us men and women of the world CAN fit together, but we choose to let a variety of things get between us all… Our pieces do fit together, and if we all truly cared to try and fix things, to put our focus on not being each other’s enemies, but all opposing Satan/Lucifer himself instead… We could truly fix the world, and God wants as many of us to be saved before the days of Revelations come upon us.
I know I definitely want us all to get along more than be at each other’s throats, I pray even all the LGBTQ+ types realize the truth of the Holy Bible, as it would reveal why they all are so confused at their hearts and minds about WHO they are… Let alone letting lust rule their lives… Like it has ruled mine…
We all need help, even if you believe yourself to have already been saved by Jesus Christ, you do need to always self-reflect on yourself, your own life, your own flaws as a whole… I’m not preaching because I think I’m above anyone here… I especially grew up in the new-age belief, grew up with music like this influencing me deeply in ways it never should have.
To anyone who reads this, I pray this message helps you understand how the pieces fit, we just need to work together to fit them back together as much as possible.
In Jesus Christ’s mighty name, I pray this, amen.
    ‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:25‭-‬27‬ ‭KJV‬
[25] that there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. [26] And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. [27] Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

I'm glad someone else sees God in this like I do!!! It's so true. God will forgive you, dedicate your life to Him. And LISTEN TO HIS VOICE! You know it's there, you can't deny it. Call me crazy, it's what they're supposed to do! I love hearing the voice of God, it has saved lives as well as my own. Empathy is the greatest reward ❤
