Here's a fun idea (If you want to), when you check out the Ring Ding Dong and Lucifer in your next video you should definitely throw in the live performance from SW5 where they preform those two songs back to back.
"Hello" was released in 2010 -- 2 years after their debut. (This was only a year after "Juliette".) SHINee's look in this MV is totally the boyfriend look. The whole aesthetic of the MV is supposed to give them a cute, approachable boyfriend image. The story is how they are trying to work up the courage to say hello to the girl they like and to ask her to be their girlfriend. :D Jonghyun is sitting on the step waiting for the girl to come home and he has a gift in a box, Key has a ring, Onew has flowers, Taemin -- because he is only 17 in this MV -- has that plushy that he is decorating for the girl he likes and Minho has a giant teddy bear in the passenger seat of his car. LOL It's a pretty simple story about just being brave enough to say hello and confess your feelings. Fun fact: We don't need to know who is on the other side of the door because we are supposed to imagine it's us who they are coming to see. Shawols are SHINee's girlfriends and they are trying to work up the courage to say hello to their fans. LOL So in this MV, Onew and Jonghyun were 20, Key was 19, Minho was 18 and Taemin was 17. SHINee are trendsetters. You have to remember the time period. There is nothing wrong with their hair in this MV. (Just go look at some of your pictures from 11/12 years ago. I'm sure the clothing style you wore and your hair is different than today's style.) Onew's hairstyle is the cool hairstyle of the time period, he was very much on trend. In fact, it's one of Shawols favorite looks on him -- it's his rocker/boyfriend look. And Minho's hair is super short because, if you remember, in "Ring Ding Dong," which was part of their 2009 comeback, he had long hair. Minho hated his long hair, but it was part of their look for "Ring Ding Dong," so SM wouldn't let him cut it for several weeks. Therefore, as soon as he was allowed, he cut his hair short and has refused to ever grow it out long again. (It was even shorter in their "Lucifer" MV, which also came out in 2010.) You need to keep in mind the context of when these videos were released. If you take a look at almost any group's or artist's videos from 2010, you will see them all with similar hairstyles -- just look up Infinite or Super Junior or TVXQ or 2PM or even BigBang from around this time period -- SHINee were helping to set the trend. (FYI: I don't think your current hairstyle is that far off from some of theirs. I can't wait to see what people say about your style when they watch your videos 10 years from now. ;p I mean it's one thing to mention their hairstyles, it's another thing to fixate on them and make your whole reaction about how you can't get over their hairstyles.) As trendsetters SHINee's hair and clothing styles will always be ahead of their time and unique. As SM's experimental boy group everything they do, including their fashion and hair, is supposed to be setting trends. So if you are going to watch these older videos, prepare yourself that they will have a different look in every video, and their style often will be pushing boundaries and setting trends. Next time before reacting, maybe take a minute to look up when the song was released, so you can prepare yourself for the era and time period the video will be from, that way you aren't so shocked by their looks in the video. OK, on a different note, Jonghyun with that little girl is so precious. If you want to see more of SHINee with little kids, if you haven't already, you should check out the reality show SHINee did called "Hello Baby." It was a show where the members of SHINee spent several weeks raising a little 3 year old boy and they were supposed to be his surrogate "Appas" (fathers). It's extremely cute and you can find episodes of the show with English subs on TH-cam. All the members of SHINee are actually really great dad material and they all have a soft spot for little kids -- although little children kind of make Onew nervous sometimes, LOL. You should also see Minho when he spends time with little kids, it will make your heart melt. Check out th-cam.com/video/yX0mpQ0_UZQ/w-d-xo.html where Minho spends the day with 3 of the kids who are on the reality show "Return of Superman," or the episode of "Return of Superman" where Minho takes one of the cast member's kids on a trip to China. th-cam.com/video/cFz5R9jFY1M/w-d-xo.html I can't stop smiling when SHINee interacts with little kids. SHINee are going to be such great dads someday -- their kids are going to be so lucky.
"Juliette" is one of the dozens of songs that was wrote by Jonghyun, and it was SHINee's first song to win the top spot on music shows. You might recognize the melody of the song because it was originally a song covered by the American singer/actor Corbin Bleu called "Deal with It." When SM bought the rights to the song they kept the melody, but Jonghyun rewrote the lyrics. :D As you can see, Jonghyun was writing songs and making his mark almost from the beginning. And Minho also wrote his rap section in the song. Minho has credits on almost all of SHINee's songs because he writes all his rap parts. This was also part of the era where SHINee started the trend of the colored skinny jeans. SHINee are known for their "school boy fashion/student look" and everyone started wearing colored skinny jeans at this time because of SHINee. They are even trendsetters when it comes to fashion. Never following trends, but always creating them in everything they do. :D It is safe to say that the original trend of colored skinny jeans in the west was probably a transplant from the trend that SHINee started. A lot of foreign idols over the years have told SHINee that the fashion trends they started in Korea were adopted by them in the U.S., Canada, China, Thailand, etc. That's how influential SHINee are. The glasses and masks they are wearing in this MV are crazy because they are supposed to be attending a sort of trendy version of a masquerade event like when Romeo and Juliet secretly meet each other at Juliet's family's costume masquerade ball. The SHINee boys are all supposed to be Romeo and they are searching for their Juliette (Who is played by Krystal from F(X), SHINee's sister group). As you discovered, Jonghyun is known for his Michael Jackson-like vocals. That's just Jonghyun's classic high note style. Jonghyun is known for his MJ style cry and for sounding a little like Michael when he sings any of SHINee's classic R&B songs. Taemin is the one that dances like MJ, but it's Jonghyun that is the one that sounds like him. During "Juliette" (and "Amigo"), Taemin was still growing into his voice, so he doesn't really have a whole lot of lines in the song, so instead they highlighted more of his dance skills. "Juliette" came out in 2009 (promoted alongside "Amigo" which was their repackaged album single), so Taemin was a year older than in "Replay" -- he was almost 16 years old here. Minho is 17 years old here. Key is also 17. Onew was 19 and Jonghyun had just turned 19. As with all of SHINee's MVs, if you really want to see their dancing, you have to check out their performance version MV -- which is designed to highlight the choreography -- or better yet, a live performance. Plus, there is nothing better than SHINee live. Check out their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) performance of "Juliette" (and "Amigo") from 2016. th-cam.com/video/81qtwuWjYog/w-d-xo.html. Fun fact: In 2011, as part of their Japanese debut, they also came out with a Japanese version of "Juliette".
Shinee's discography matures from the get go- their debut album in my opinion. That's why I'm still in the Shinee rabbit hole the past 14yrs. If I remember correctly, Hello comes out right after Lucifer. So surprised back then, coz Hello is like totally opposite vibe from Lucifer. Cutesy verses edgy. Thank you for the reaction. I enjoyed it.
All 5 of SHINee are all great singers, but ONEW and Jonghyun's vocals are really two of the best in the business. The two of them singing together is my favourite thing ever.
Ooh I loved Onew's hair in 'Hello'..where its kinda permed and tucked behind his ear on one side🔥😍..need long hair Onew back!!..and Minho's hairstyle suits him very well..Taemin's is a bowl cut but weirder😂,he still looked good though..others are okay💕 (my opinion😌)
I saw an interview with superM where Mark (from nct) said something along the lines of having this constantly on repeat when he got into kpop, thats how I found it heh
minho's hair in hello is actually due to him hating his hair on ring ding dong. he had long hair and he hated it so he chopped it off and that is what youre seeing in hello. lol anyway, if you'll react to RDD and lucifer, you also might want to squeeze in the RDD and Lucifer live from SWC5. you wont regret it
Yes plzz react to shinee more.....if you are going to react to ring ding dong nd lucifer mv....then plzz also react to live performance of "ring ding dong+lucifer remix"....you will see the difference between the AUTOTUNE nd their LIVE VOCALS🙏🙏🤞
Yay SHINee content! Love your reaction pls do more both SHINee as a group and member solos You may start with their MVs but tbh their live performance and concerts are so much better, if it permits pls include live performances of the MVs I'm a new fan but started with the curent ones then back but If you want in chronological order of the MVs i think you missed Amigo? Then from what you've mentioned the next would be Dream Girl & Why so serious Ofc check on your own time but very much looking forward with your inputs and seeing them with your perspective TIA!
Juliette might sound familiar because it's sampled from Corbin Bleu's "Deal With It". In SHINee's version, it is the first SHINee song with lyrics written by Jonghyun!! Minho also wrote the rap, but he'd been writing his raps since their debut album. It's quite amazing if you think about the fact that these 2 teenage boys got their lyrics chosen by SM over other lyricists so early in their career. I agree with the other commenters, if you're going to react to RDD & Lucifer it would be awesome if you can also react to their live stage of those back to back from SWC5. th-cam.com/video/WlnfJbEwsyw/w-d-xo.html
