When Mason Mount says "they just threw some together" when he's talking about the attributes on his first card, he's joking but technically he is correct! I used to do this as a job for EA Sports. When you create a new player in the database it generates random numbers between 0-99 for every individual attribute and if it is a player who you don't know much about then you normally leave those attributes as they are until more details about the player are known and then you go into the database and change them manually.
It's fairly obvious the stats can't be that accurate (look, how you you sign a numbered rating to half these things anyway), but obviously players playing at big clubs are seen more than youngsters starting out, who won't okay much in list leagues or smaller countries, so it's hard to get enough data (as you've only got 5 matches they've played go off), to formulate a proper rating

That's not how it actually works, is it? I don't play modern FIFA so I wouldn't know. Elite players like Lewa, Kane, Haaland, Ronaldo etc. often get cards in the late 90s by the end of a season, but they never keep those upgrades.
