I might agree to disagree on the tourism value remark by the human rights fellow. I've visited the royal palaces as an American foreign tourist and all of my experiences were "shoulder to shoulder" with international visitors. Perhaps that Legoland appeals more to the British youth and families in the region, but there are Legolands all over the world. There's only one Windsor Castle, Westminster Abbey, St. Geoge's Chapel, and all of the other royal state owned attractions. I believe that they are an important part of British tourism, my opinion only, of course.
Peter Tatchell, the 'human rights fellow', makes a valid point regarding tourism. For the last 5 years tourist figures for Versailles has been higher than for any royal residence in the UK. Tourists visiting the UK don't come because they think they might catch a glimpse of the Queen, they visit to see the evidence of the UKs rich and lengthy history, including our royal heritage. However, we can't really guess how tourism may be affected were we to become a republic, because we'd have to abolish monarchy and establish a republic in order to find out. Personally, I'd rather we had an elected Head of State, which the Queen isn't, but there isn't currently one individual I would vote for to become president of the UK. Better the devil you know? For now, yes.

I'm not English and nothing I didn't Prince Charles but I think that William should be the next Monarch in England because he represents something new. I don't know what to think on this. I like the idea of a figurehead who's above politics and carrying on traditions, but the idea of a monarchy seems primitive and archaic. I think the good people of the UK and Commonwealth countries should decide if they want to keep the monarchy going. However, Elizabeth II has been a good monarch and does her job very well.
There is no such DNA invention as 'royal blood.' No human is more royal than anyone else. These European 'royal families' are incestuous. Philip's sisters were married to Nazis in WWII. A dynasty that goes back a thousand years to the Saxon kings? Actually it is a bit more complicated than that. It goes back a few hundred to when an heirless monarch was replaced by one recruited from what later became Imperial Germany and who spoke no English, George I. A bit before that there had been a Dutch recruit William III and earlier the unhappy Scottish Stuart dynasty and usurping of the throne by Richard III and Henry VII. And the Saxon kings themselves who had succeeded the Vikings had after a short time span been replaced by Norman ones.

Charles is almost a tragic figure. For his entire life, he was prepared for becoming king one day. But he has not so far, by the age of 71. This is an age labourers have usually already retired from work. And should he be crowned in a couple of years (maybe in ten years?), he will be a senile man being almost too old to exercise the king's duties.

While the Windsor women enjoy great longevity, such is not the case with the men. If you look at Albert, Geo V and 6, Edward 7 and 8 and their male siblings most died in their 60s. Prince Philip is has lived to a great old age, but his own father Prince Andrew of Greece died at 61. So it could work out that way.

I never like the British Royal Family - I love the old Spanish Catholic kings (their history, it's just like a movie) -, but I must admit that Queen Elizabeth II is a very strong woman. The interesting part is that November the 20th is the Queen's Wedding Anniversary.
During the interview when Martin Bashir asked Diana if Prince Charles will ever be king, instead of replying, "yes," Diana proceeded to cast doubt on his ability to handle, "the top job," as she called it.
That interview is what got her divorced from the House of Windsor, as well as having her HRH title taken away.
Before that interview, Diana had let "tapes" leave KP which became the book, "Diana-Her True Story" by Andrew Morton, also done behind the Queen's back.
Diana was on the smear campaign trail with the House of Windsor and had become too much of a threat.
She had also taken up with an Arab, Dodi Fayed and this upset the Middle East, as well as the British Establishment.
Isreal did not want to see Diana campaigning for Palestine and they knew she would.
Dodi was also a cocaine user and they did not want William and Harry around that.

Yep, but William will not the only monarch to outlive his father because George III took the throne after his grandfather George II died at breakfast time in 1760. His father, Fredrick, Prince of Wales died from disease so George became heir to the throne.
Victoria was crowned Queen after his uncle King William IV died without any children. Her father was the Duke of York (George III's youngest child) but died shortly after her birth. There were monarchs around the world not directly taking thrones straight from either their parents but from a relative within the royal family.

I for one would not like Boris Johnson to be the head of state, or any other elected politician in Britain today. I’ll keep Elizabeth II. And on a more personal note, I think our monarchy says a lot about our country - it costs less money to have and maintain when compared to the amount of money it brings in with tourism, the Commonwealth, the historical sites, the charity work and philanthropy. It’s easy to say it’s costly and they live a life of luxury but for that luxury they have to give up personal freedoms, the rights to marry or live however they please because they have an obligation to the people of the country. It’s made a lot of royals very unhappy - Princess Margaret, Prince Charles, King George (who died from lung disease due to stress-smoking), and even Elizabeth herself. It’s not black and white. The crown is a very heavy thing, physically and metaphorically.
you must go back into history and see why Britain is alive and well as it is today. The reason is this family. They fought to protect it and they were given this country and ruled and tried to keep it protected the best they could. King Henry the 2nd or 3rd began the idea of parliament 9 if I remember right but forgot exactly which one?) and that is how Parliament came to be as they were so busy and could not do it all. But before they were doing it all. So they were willing to share some of the world with the people.
This family has a long heritage an although cousin did fight and have changed roles from one cousin to another and they married other Royalty from other countries that were cousins also. They kept the money in the family and the ability to rule. To this day t hey mostly married distance cousins and not sure if n purpose or by chance but if you check with the genealogy you would fine Princes Diana and Even Duchess Kate in the family tree. Did not find Megahn but think after prince Charles turned to Duchess Camilla the Queen realized maybe they should allow love to rule? So it changed.
The country began with them and they worked to keep it safe and put their own lives on the line. That is why Harry leaving is not what was expected nor desire as normally they stay on and try to fight through all of the hardships they have, as they 'do have to work for a living' they do not just sit around all day having Tea as some people may think. They may not be perfect people as they are NOt God. BUT they have been respected and loved for many years people knew about respect and knew that they were ready to take hold of their duty and stand by the people all they could. They do have parliament also in charge of course, too.
Maybe things will change now that Andrew and harry are found out and changed as to not be included in the work or any duty etc. They are not in line to the throne either, Not everyone can be born FIRST and it is not anyone's fault they were born first and deserved the title they received.

Prince William has done well and shown he deserves being King one day. This is how your country runs and it is part of your legacy and when you change this part of it you no longer have anything special for people to respect or look up to. You would be surprised how many people would love to have what you do with this legacy. There is something very special and magical and we know too there is something God has deemed for your country! There is definitely a reason it has lasted as it has, the first to take it on and take care of it and make it what it is today.
Let's not be jealous of them and try to ruin what other countries prize about your country, and not just your country other countries Royals are related to them.
Princess Diana taught her children to not like the media and to not want to be part of the Royals and to feel they did not belong as their mom felt that way and wanted out. So they shunned while so young and went through time and harry has never gotten over it as Meghan kept him into that theme. But William now has grown up and understands it better. However, Megan decided to only use it on Archies Birth certificate. Thats already officially done, and provides proof. Her name appearing as such could have never happened unless it was legal.
