My Italian Grandad owned the Greengrocers in Chadwell Street. My Dad was born in Chadwell Street and worked in the shop. I was born 1951 and lived in 3 different places around there. Went to St John the Evangelist school in Duncan Terrace. Played in bomb sites and Myddleton Square swing gardens. Moved out of the area when I was eleven. But always think of my home as The Angel. Thanks for the memories.
I was born in Chadwell St in 65 and remember the shops opposite. I think it was the little sweet shop that had such a lovely lady with dark hair, as far as I can remember. I was 5 when I moved to newington green. We went to Clerkenwell parochial school. I was not there long. And the bike shop in St Johns St was my Dads friend. I hope my vague memories are not confusing. But the bag lady selling the bags will be one very fond memory of Chapel Market as well as the donut store.
Oh my gawd the BAG LADY from chapel market must be 45 years since i saw her! Love me some pie and mash and im sure i learned to backdive at the tibs, put a smile on my face thanks.
In the 1950s my mum and dad had a pub called the rothbury, my uncle had the hare and hounds I was to young to remember I think the rothbury was matilda street, does anyone remember or know of these

Think your photos are of Quinn Buildings and not the Cottages in Popham Street. Only Quinn had bay windows. This said found the film great so many things I recognise and remember. Have crossed the border into Stoke Newington.

This is wonderful. I remember the 'bag lady' from Chapel Market, her picture took me back in time. Thanks for all the pictures!
I remember her too; walking up and down with those waxy type bags. Don't forget the one legged peanut seller outside Manze's in his sheepskin coat.
Apple fritters
Lots of gays down there- all ready and willing to suck penis.
