- We're joined by Elizabeth Drew to look at the Yamaha 450 first level wooden upgrade clarinet. This is an ideal first level upgrade for players wanting their first wooden instrument.
This clarinet is available from Dawkes, with a full workshop pre-check and set-up. Worldwide shipping is available. More Info Here: www.dawkes.co....

this was my first wooden clarinet in the beginning of high school, it played well and had a decent sound, I eventually moved on to Buffet R13s and haven't tried any newer Yamaha clarinets to see how they compare, I do think their bassoons are quite good and so is my Yamaha upright piano
does it has a big difference between ycl 450 vs ycl 255
I bought a Yamaha YCL-35 last month secondhanded. Does it has the similar feature with YCL/450 since it is also a wooden instrument?
Is the barrel made of grenadilla wood?
Yes indeed!
The lady sounds great 👍🏼
what is the effect of the curve inside the bell of this clarinet?
Can this clarinet be for beginner clarinetist’s?Cause I’m gonna be one this year and I just want to know if this is the right clarinet for me.Please respond and thanks for you help.
Yes, there's no problem with starting on a YCL-450. It is a wooden instrument so you'd need to be a little more careful with drying it out and maintenance but it's easy to play, and it will save you upgrading later!
@@dawkesmusic Hi, my teacher recommended this clarinet to me as an upgrade and I’m going to get it tomorrow. Could you tell me more about the drying out and how to maintain the YCL 450?
I recommend swabbing it out every time and try to keep the humidity controlled so it’s not too dry or too humid. If you live in a dry climate you can put an orange peel in your case or a humidifier. Keep it in an air conditioned room at home and never leave it in freezing or hot temperatures such as in the trunk of your car.
Hello, this is also the first wooden clarinet for my 10 year old son. however, he feel this ycl-450 is harder to play than plastic ycl-200AD. Is there any Backun barrel can help to my son play easier than after improvement? thanks.
Honestly - a barrel change is unlikely to make it 'easier' to play. We'd suggest trying 2-3 different mouthpieces, perhaps with the advice of your son's teacher who can help recommend a few. The combo of reed, lig and mouthpiece will have more affect on the ease of playing. Thanks for watching!
