Fun and original storytelling - and I love your in-depth description of the neighbourhoods: how they are zoned and why - the most prominent architecture used - when it was developed and so on! Definitely an inspiration.
Stories are the best! Loved the motel under the motorway. Im a bit morbid and put a couple of crime scenes with clues as to where the criminal was hiding, an old tunnel that sits in an overgrown part of the abandoned train yard.

That glass station is lit, girl! Really feels modern, and doesn't feel like is uprooting homes, due to the location, which is a plus. Sadly, the cursive on the awning outside the station parses as "Grocery Hore". 2:00 The "toughest cop in town" put an F-150 body on top of a 50's Cadillac? That must've been tough! The houses under the highway are very interesting. I wonder how liveable they are with the noise, in game and IRL. And now, C:S is an adult game, only on Diana's! 5:16 Lucoa. No words. Brooklyn in the West Coast! Looks great. So, does Jake come from Saltaire? Is this the Diana Cinematic Universe? And it is a CYOA! A cop, gun in hand, in an affluent, diverse community, far from his district? It sounds like a long paid leave at least, but one can hope for (more) just desserts!

That's right. Even in City Skylines, ACAB. This is actually something that I hope will be better developed in Cities Skylines 2 - rather than crime just being a game play mechanic, that there will be the opportunity to pursue city policies and social programs that would reduce crime in real life.
Simcity 2013 had a mechanic where people would resort to crimes if you had issues in pollution, low education, or unemployment. I wonder if the current cities skylines has that as an issue, or if crime is just a random metric. either way, i agree completely, policies and social programs sound like an intuitive design choice i'd love to see in the game.
Hearing Lola's performance, Officer Hernandez stops at the gate to the back yard. He stares for a moment at her and his expression hardens. She carries on as if he doesn't even *exist.* As if she were free to do *anything* without his permission. As if she isn't already *his.* She can't be allowed to continue disrespecting him. But there are too many people here. His anger focuses and he stalks away before anyone notices him. After the show Lola walks home, her heart unburdened for the first time in years. For the first time since her early childhood in that small town in the South Valley. It doesn't seem to matter that she lives in a hotel room. It doesn't seem to matter that she's *still* - this far away from home - forced to endure the turbulence of violent and controlling men to survive and stay out of jail. She can fly above it all. Tonight she is free. Just for tonight she's untouchable. To be continued...
Amazing work as always! Eastern Astoria seems like a beautiful place to live despite its various flaws. As for the story, what I think should happen could be that Hernandez, having decided to "borrow" a bag of no-no-snow from the Bond St. Station's evidence room and snort it, starts to become aggressive with Lola. He goes trigger-happy and unintentionally shoots Jake in the arm, then proceeds an attempt of sexual assault on Lola. While he is distracted by this, David tackles the cop and pulls Lola down with him for the added weight to keep him from getting up. After this incident, Hernandez not only gets his badge revoked, but also trialled and arrested because of his actions. People in East Astoria and other parts of Cascadia Bay have lost trust in their police force after this, resulting in outcry and uproar to reevaluate or abolish the police. Jake makes a full recovery from his gunshot wound, but ends up losing a sum of his trust-fund for medical fees. David has been there for him ever since, and they will be going on their first date in a week. Lola is severely shaken up by the incident, but has slowly been getting back on her feet ever since. Therapy has helped her with this, and she has even started to find more success in her acapella career. She remains in contact with David and Jake, meeting up with them to perform or hang out.
Honestly these characters are just custom animated assets from the Steam workshop. A few of them were originally made for Two Dollars Twenty's Sunset City series and he uses them in some of his videos for storytelling too so I took a lot of inspiration his style for this video.
Not gonna lie, I asked AI to generate me the name of police officer randomly and it gave me this, but I was definitely going for GTA vibes for this whole story 😅

Wow this is amazing and well done not to mention I see you name the city after the section in northern queens New York and speaking of elevated railroads I'm disappointed that they didn't add that in the new hubs and transport patch and I hope we get in the next one in may along with the last of the remaining final dlc's if not that I hope we see them in cities skylines 2.
The city is actually based off of Astoria, Oregon but I made it into a large city like NYC so it's appropriate I kept the name Astoria and made an area similar to Queens 😁

With a sense of bitter defeat, the cop skulks around the edges of the property. Hernandez turn to the stairs leading out back. Around the fence stands a tattooed, stout gentlethem with earrings and hints of a moustache, tending to a table and checking ID’s before serving guests various sodas and cocktails. The officer’s eyes narrow; he’s seen a lifetime of juvenile delinquents selling dope in this city, even in the supposedly better off neighborhoods. This could be the drug bust of the month, the officer muses. Hernandez quickly stows away his badge in his pants and turns his uniform inside out. Stealth mode it is. Hernandez approaches the table and strikes up a conversation with the bartender. The lad - lassie? - goes by Eli, studies at the university, and serves drinks through the summer to pay for textbooks and rent, they tell him. Hernandez tries his best to ask Eli to sell him some weed, using his fullest knowledge of youth slang. No luck, they’re clean. And unfortunately for Hernandez, he doesn’t have any fentanyl on hand to plant on the suspect either. Fine, Hernandez says, and walks away with a drink in hand, $5 in the hole, and a massive headache. In his drunken stupor, Hernandez stumbles through the crowd. The music reaches a climax, and the crowd roars. Wait a second… that’s the voice. It’s that harlot Lola. Hernandez shoves his way to the front just in time to see David on his knee asking Jake to dance with him. In a bout of rage, the officer draws his pistol and declares an illegal assembly. Many sets of eyes fall on him, and a figure with a trembling voice nervously emerges, hands outstretched. Hernandez turns around to fire; Eli falls to the ground clutching their abdomen, a red splotch on their satin shirt. Hernandez turns back attention to his front, ready to take these three into custody. Public indecency, the charge lingers on his lips. Instead, the officer is disarmed and floor-bound in a split second. If Hernandez wasn’t unconscious, he would have realized to never mess with a Saltaire native with an estanged gun-toting family and a full suite of self defense skills. (A first aid-trained lady in a pin-covered denim jacket is on site to tend to Eli - they should be okay.) Jake dusts his hands off, lets out a sigh, and walks casually back towards the stage as he calls for an ambulance. Lola gazes at Jake in awe. She had never before seen the most perfect man. Jake walks over to David - crouched on the ground covering his head - and helps him up. David looks into Jake’s eyes, whispers something, and kisses him on the lips.
What I think should happen is officer hernandez tries to sexualy assaults Lola and Jake tries to stop him but the officer get away now Lola will have to live in fear
You must be doing something right but the switches between story about characters interrupted by story about neighbourhoods annoy me. sorry to be blunt, like your stuff but for me it is either or.
Cop murders Lola, and the musician guy witnesses it. The musician guy moves to another town in fear, gets a real job and becomes a productive member of society.

I love how the yellow trains are the NS trains from the Netherlands, which is how I recognized them. I wonder if they're always late in your city too.
They are always late because this train line gets clogged with train traffic cos it's the only line in this part of the city 😅

Honestly agreed that would be an excellent mechanic for different gameplay policies beyond just "more jails=less crime"
