This expansion plus the new deck turn Root into the amazing game it was always supposed to be. Finally you can play without the cats, the vagabond, and without the oppressive favor cards.
@@Chronically_ChiII I don't think so the river folk adds a lot to the game I suggest buying the river folk first currently I have all the expansions and I love the river folk the most this is a nice expansion if you are getting bored of the original I would say I did not like it a lot to be honest.
I really like this expansion and the Corvids have my favourite meeple. My only gripe is that there are no rules additions with regards to the bots from the Clockwork expansion. The bots seem to have a disadvantage not being able to free blocked tunnels or remove plots outside of combat. It would also be nice to have clarification on whether they are supposed to interact with the ferry in the way I guess they should.

Value wise, the new expansion is "better" because it has 2 new interesting maps, a big army faction with the moles that can replace cats and corvids are really fun to play. Riverfolk has no new maps, a "meh" a.i....but it has a second vagabond board to play 2 at the same time which is fine....but the real strenght are the new factions which both are my favourites...lizards are so funny to play with depending entierly on the discard pile to "convert" other people while the otters you must do your best to sell your services to win the game. So, it is a hard one, I prefer riverfolk because it has my two personnal factions in it, but the underwolrd expansion had also 2 cool factions and 2 new maps that have fun elements on them (like a king of the hill mechanic) so itd a "better value" EXTRA: Try to find the exile and partisan deck, its a real game changer...never played with the old deck of cards since I got this one.

No pieces either. They're just AI/NPC for the game.

I have the reverse. For the first few months of the pandemic, I would regularly be reminded of corvids
I crushed my friend using the moles. They are very easy to play with.
Get this over the Riverfolk. This is by far the better expansion
