    Lovely. Somebody has labelled the benches Settle Up and Settle Down. These are not just a corny puns but statements of fact: the up line at all British stations is the line you take take to go to London and vice versa.

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought it was great to see the benches labelled like that. I expect many won't realise the significance of it.

    Thanks for sharing this. A few weeks ago I walked under the Ribble Head Viaduct and over Blea Moor. I was lucky enough to see a steam locomotive crossing the viaduct. And of course after a day walking it's good to get into the Station Inn for a drink and a hot meal. All the best.

    Hi Alan & Sally , Loved the vlog. Very interesting double bridge over the canal. It does look like it was built at the same time to me. Other than the top bit that does look newer. Absolutely loved the viaduct, great footage with the drone too. The station was lovely. The buildings have been beautifully maintained. Thanks Alan, have a good week xx

    Hi Alan and Sally, Four very interesting topics at locations I have been to often.
    I was told that the double arched bridge was originally a pack horse bridge but when the canal arrived it was built so that canal boats could pass under it. Then, as motor vehicles became the main form of transport, the bridge was highered once again to carry the main road as it is today.
    To look at it, it doesn't appear to be different building styles as it is all built in rough stone.
    In any case, it is still regarded as one of the wonders of the canal world.
    Thanks for the vlog.

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's very kind of you to say, thank you. There does seem to be uncertainty about the full history of the bridge, I referred to its heritage listing in my narrative. Building two arches would of course have saved a lot of stonework but it does have the look of having been raised, so possibly shortly after it was built. Cheers, thanks for watching and commenting.

      That's correct Alan, a lot of industrial history in the area too Sadly many of Mills demolished eg Print works at Strines It would be worth a trip up the Trent and Mersey to Macclesfield Canal and Peak forest canal Magnificent scenery. @@MyNarrowboatVenture
