Re: Irish notions Does it take someone with notions to do something as bold and absurd as walking around in public dressed as Garfield? Or does walking around in public dressed as Garfield humiliate and thus humble those with notions?
Just in case someone hasn't mentioned it- your build is fine (you could do with 50 or more vigor which you could take from arcane if you wanted, but you're all good), but your talismans and wondrous physick buffs are your weak spot. With just a couple tweaks you could beat Messmer 20-30 fights sooner and maybe enjoy playing with this build even more. Here's what I'd suggest: --You rely on jump attacks and staggers. Swap the *claw talisman* into the slot currently equipped with the veridian amber medallion. Your stamina was rarely an issue for you, so plus 11% stamina does you much less good than having an extra 15% damage per jumping heavy attack. If you stick with stamina buffs, the turtle talismans are going to be much better at keeping your stamina topped up than the veridian medallion. A faster-refilling supply is much more important than a larger supply in fights like Messmer/Malenia. --The *stonebarb cracked tear* for the wondrous physick will lower the number of attacks needed to stagger Messmer. It lasts three minutes, and you'll get a bunch more stance breaks and thus critical hit opportunities. It might only take 2-3 jumping heavies to break his stance, and I would suggest using this in place of either of the defensive/support cracked tears you had equipped here. --You can maximize your stagger potential by swapping your dragon katana for the *standard great katana* with the *cragblade* ash of war. I don't think I saw you use your ash of war once in several dozen attempts, but if you had cragblade you could cut the number of jump attacks to stagger even further with this setup. If you kept the points you already had in arcane, it would also be good to use the occult infusion if/when you swap the ash of war. It would decrease the number of attacks required to proc bleed using the great katanas standard bleed effect. --Defensively, you could replace your crimson amber medallion with your highest available *flamedrake talisman*. Its a bit of a trade-off, but an extra 20% fire damage protection goes a long way against Messmer's AOE fire attacks and that fireball spell you like so much. (Its less of a hit if you trade some of your arcane for more vigor, but your call). Your chat is right, Malenia should be very beatable with the build you already have. Your call on any of this obviously, the important part is to have fun and I think any one of the suggestions above will make you enjoy playing even more and be a huge benefit as you progress through the DLC.
A streamer I watch ( LobosJr) spent I think 8 hours on Messmer trying to get the patterns down. He used this info for his soul level 1 no skadu tree fragment run he did later. Edit: I think he spent 12 hours or so on Malenia.

To be honest (and to not just dunk on John as per usual 😂): I don't know how people do like 50+ boss runs in one sitting. With these games especially you can pinpoint the moment people start losing focus after a number of tries, usually around the same time they got in a few good attempts. Once I quit Lies of P for a month after struggling with Manus for ages - and then I got him surprisingly quickly in a couple of tries after coming back. There's no better level up than a generous good night sleep... or 30. 👍
I think that happens when people specialize in a game... Like it will still take an incredible amount of practice, but sticking up with a game for months/years makes people who just want to beat the game and head out see you like a paranormal being lol
23:55 John, if you've beaten Isshin you shouldn't be worried about Malenia. Yeah sure, she has some bullshit, but it's also pretty easy to bullshit her back. If you're planning to take that Great Katana over to her you shouldn't have too many problems, she's easy to stagger and she bleeds easy too, plus her poise is low so you'd be able to interupt her mid-combo and maybe even stunlock her for a bit if you get lucky.
