A couple of other "Easter eggs":
1) In "Duck and the Diesel Engine", Duck is accused of calling Gordon a "Galloping sausage". This was in reality an unflattering nickname for Sir Nigel Gresley's W1 loco.
2) In "Four Little Engines", Peter Sam leaves the Refreshment Lady behind at the top station. This is based on an incident which happened on the Talyllyn Railway in the early preservation era when a Guard gave the "right away" for the train to depart before the refreshment lady had boarded. The Guard was Reverend Wilbert Awdry himself!
Yup.
The reason "N W" appears on the side of rolling stock is because the railway on Sodor is called the "Northwestern Railway". British Railways and British Petrolium appears because Sodor is between Britain and the Isle Of Man.
The N W on Awdry's original Thomas model initially stood for "Nowhere", but found it could stand for "Northwestern", too.
@@vincentmorris8431 yeah that too
Britten and scotland you mean barrow an furness is up in scotland
@@charliegamage8862 No,Barrow In Furness is in Cumbria which is in the North West of England which is why it's the "North Western Railway"
@@TankEngine75 you may be right
This is why i'm interested with Classic Thomas
I am lucky enough to have seen mallard and the rocket at the National Railway Museum
8:32 yep CGI is a different time line here is the proof
Great video! Some of those I have known for a while like the BR cycling lion being on some of the engines but some of these I never even knew
4:10 best part of the music
Let's vote for Thomas and black James to make cameos in the 3 railway engines as well as its 1998 foreword, and to add Thomas's Christas party as a bonus story for toby the tram engine, too.
I didn't know there were Easter Eggs in the book series, I always read the railway series but I never knew about it until now, hahaha, I guess my mind was looking at the pictures and reading the stories. 😂
I'd have combined all the cycling lions and thin/fat clergyman inclusions together, but many of the other ones really interesting and new to me.
Another drawing based on a real photo is illustration #5 in "Bulldog" (Duke The Lost Engine), which is based on a reversal of a photograph of a derailment that happened when one of the Festiniog Railway's "Penrhyn Ladies" was double-heading with Prince.
3:40 well, that's because the official name of the line was North Western Railway
This Was Really Good
2:46 it’s actually reverend showing Dalby how Thomas is supposed to look like, as he drew him incorrectly
I love this video
This introduced me to railway series books I never knew existed
5:24 that’s not an ester egg because he is an actual character that they want you to see
well him appearing in general was an reference to the real engine. Everything like him being a brother to Gordon is an easter egg.
Did you even see the title? It said “Easter eggs and REFERENCES” REFERENCES, PEOPLE!
We had Stephenson's Rocket and Mallard, now we have Stephen and Spencer
7:40 Press F to pay respects to Old Stuck Up
If the first 6 books take place in 1923-35 -- 16 to 23 years before their publication, technically those title references would be continuity errors.
Want to know something the illustrations aren't Canon the events happen our Cannon so you can just ignore a lots of Errors for timeline mistakes
There's also a continuity error in the foreword to Book 3 in that "THE AUTHOR" says that Nationalisation has taken place - which would place Book 3 onwards no earlier than 1/1/1948. I suspect Awdry originally intended for the stories to be contemporaneous with their time of publication but later retconned the timeline backwards.
@@LMS5935 However if a child wrote in to Awdry to say they'd spotted an error in the illustrations (e.g. there is an illustration which has Henry wearing Gordon's square buffers), rather than write back and say "the artist got it wrong", Awdry would where possible reply with a short story explaining what was in the picture (e.g. Henry damaged his buffers, but the Fat Controller only had spares of Gordon's, so Henry had to use those until the correct spares could be obtained).
I know several illustrations from Mountain Engines are based on real photos
1:23 so that's what Awdry looked like when he was a bit younger
Technically the Reverend W awdry appearance and Percy the small engine isn't Canon as he didn't have children yet in the timeline Percy came to Sodor sometime between 1926 and 1934
@@LMS5935well, that’s still what he looked like in his youth.
Nice.
who is sad that thomas is ending ;-;
In one of the books there is a reference to the tv series. If anyone knows where can I find it please tell me.
I just realized my birthday is 6 days after awdry's
7:39 well well i never hahahahaha did it serverd him roght?
NO WAY !!!!! Wow im going to look at my books agin !!!!!!im 20 years old hahahaha
I'm afraid zooming in on illustrations as closely as it does here just hurts my eyes
I'd rather the real Sodor (TV franchise) Atlantic Ocean. Thomas isn't cheeky but funny, and James is cheeky
Rocket :"Well I never! listen here young man books are important but a least I appeared many times CGI hohohoho!"
Flying Scottsman :"Excuse me Rocket your not the only engine who is commuting this young man here I also appeared hmm oh dear I lost count oh dear !"
City of Turo :"Sign oh bother this why both of you should just clam down Railway Modeling is important to keep the golden of steam running and watching Thomas to gather ideas to build a layout haha and I say your tenders apparently appeared in the TV huh Scottsman?"
Flying Scottsman "What!!! Argh I didn't see Gordon oh bother who told you?"
City of Turo :"I think it was diesel."
Why mostly the RWS?
