I've seen this hive built and used in the UK in the 1980s, by an expert beekeeper called Peter Springhall. One of the most natural ways to keep bees. Well done on your Apiary...I love it.
Dr. Dan, i just love seeing your videos. hopefully my start up farm can become like yours. you are an inspiration for me. your positivity and dedication to farming is just uplifting.
I am really planning to make it. At first I was using pots and local traditional hive called kizegi , I have 4 kizegis and 3pots . I harvest 9 kg pure honey from kizegi each . Then 4kg from traditional pots. I am planning to raise more money in order to make Kenyan top bar hive... Thanks 👍👍👍
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha the lord Already fed me this information before I saw this video . I have a big problem with kids being distructive in the area of my land . Using trees was my plan from word go and thank you for showing me how to make a really easy one god bless all my love and heart
Wow Dr. Daniel! I'm excited to see beekeeping videos on your channel. This new voice-over style was also interesting to see. I found the Arabian themed background music to be a little peculiar 😅
Thank you for this video. I want to make two hives this week. Can you tell me how big the holes are in the mesh you use to divide the queen's side from the honey side, please?
The queens chamber is the one all the bees directly get into. The honey chamber is the further chamber. The other bees can get there besides the Queen. The idea is you don't want the queen to lay eggs in the honey chamber
@@omanbody8060 you buy queen excluders made from steel or plastic for a few dollars online.. the mesh he has was the wrong size and will not work at all its way too big she will lay eggs in his honey combs..
Hi I was trying to see what the width of your wood is Could you please tell me the height/ depth of your hive is and that would really help me Thank you Mandy 🇬🇧
Lemon grass, but it does not work how he claim's.. he is lying about buying the bees so he looks like a poor man starting new , but hes actually a rich man who doesnt think you will support him if you know hes rich, so instead of being truthfull he has decided to decieve you... the plant you asked about is called lemon grass in english, you can buy it as an oil its better and you only need one drop of oil to attract bees, but most people who use this method put up around 20 swarm traps to catch their own bees escaping when they decide to swarm and they only catch a few per year surrounding there own bee farm.. you will need to make 20 swarm traps with lemongrass, and find a beekeeper who lets you put up traps near their apiary (bee farm) and dont mind you taking there bees, because most will be mad your stealing there bees before they can catch them back.... if you really want bees do what the fake lying doctor actually did and buy them ... because your only going to catch bees from around a hive that is overcrowded and swarming, and unless you have that, you wont catch bees..
How old are your layers and what breeds are they. Some layer breeds need less protein and others get fat on corn, resulting in poor egg production. If you can answer these questions, maybe I can help answer your questions
@@lulemark7290 Ok so they're till chicks. For 10 week old chicks, always go for STARTER PELLET (ask the seller). Depending on which country you live, the name might differ but the content/ingredients are often the same or similar. I use Starter Mash (also known as Broiler Starter in Ghana) for my DOC. How many are the chicks and what breed of layers are you raising?
On the one end of the value chain you have your start up inputs which as seen on this video can be DIY or if you have money you can buy a beehive from a supplier other suppliers would be for your suit and equipment beehive tool a simply long aerated bread knife could do a smoker. You then would need an extractor if your using the langstroth beehive but a top bar beehive you simply crush and strain your honey after cutting out the combs you can package them yourself buying jars plastic or glass depend on your market preference benefit of honey as a product is if stores well can stay fresh indefinitely giving you time to market your product and get the right price for it there are barely any month to month inputs beside checking up and maintaining your beehives makes sure there’s enough vegetation and flowers nearby for them to forage on so they don’t have to go too far wasting energy that go forage this will help with productivity
@@FarmUp Hi Dr Daniel. My brother has been in the bee business since 1980 We are from Trinidad. Recently he started complaining about the bee boxes rottening so he is thinking of using pvc board to the bottom
There’re many wood treatments (chemicals) you can use. The most important thing is to make sure it soaks the wood well and the let it dry out before using. Bees don’t eat wood, so they will not be repelled by the scent. Also wood termites are unlikely to eat the wood once the bees have colonised the hive. Good luck
Small tip why dont u build a small poultry on top of fish pond this will produce the chicken drops as the food for fish and u will also get eggs u dont need to buy the fish feed
you didn't show an inside view of honey making process. .... It seems the spaces between the hanging bars are not sufficient for the honey making process
I've been watching this farm and this channel grow and I can tell... This guy is going far

Thank you for this. Hoping to make a small bee hive and I’ve never constructed anything on my life 🙈🙈
Nice! I've been wanting to start raising bees, and with a home made hive like this, I could get started.
Well your video is fantastic it’s so easy and simple

Thank you so much Dr. Danial, My question is that what would happened when I make a Two places of Queen in the same Top Bar to save two colonies?
Hi. Nice and detailed video. Thanks.
Just wanted to ask what should be the size of the mash that is separating the queen from honey section?
I can't say thank you enough my brother, inspirational and Mony saving 🤘🏻👌🏼🖖🏻

Well detailed @Daniel. Btw how many litres of honey can that beehive possible accumulate in a season/ year?
Watching from the Netherlands and thanks for this interesting video.
Nice project
awesome video! thanks for sharing.
I have been watching from Bangladesh.
What size of mesh holes would keep the queen in her place but allow worker bees into and out of honey area please. Thank you for a great video.

Nice beehive construction. Please what is the mesh size?
I just love your videos,it has helped me alot
Maybe the nails were to thick that's why the wood was splitting. Bee keeping is fantastic
Good info Dr. I'm going to use this method👍🏻
Good when you are harvesting where do you havest the side of queen or opposite side of bee hive
To prevent splitting wood , hit the nail on the sharp side,(gently, not too much , make nail not sharp , that’s help
Good content Doc,which camera or dslr are u using if u dont mind me asking?
Hello Guys!!! Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱!!!! U got my sub , I love your videos, like your style Guys
You never disappoint
Sorry I missed how the bees will hand onto the wood? Isn't there supposed to be something that looks like combs?
Waouuuu Nice vraiment i like that congratulations
How does the queen bee decide which chamber she will stay in🤔 from the beginning..do u put entrance holes on both opposite sides or only one side
I have the same question 😅
The queens chamber is the one all the bees directly get into. The honey chamber is the further chamber. The other bees can get there besides the Queen. The idea is you don't want the queen to lay eggs in the honey chamber

Should the hive always be trapezoidal or rectangular given the same length and breadth as shown in the video

Put your nails upside down on something hard and hit the tip with your hammer. This will stop the timber splitting when you hammer it in.
Excellent bee give by the way, certainly going to make some of these

Please what type of net or Quee excluder did you use
Mr Daniel iam around Kampala in which hardware can ibuy that queen excluder wire mesh
What's the size of the queens chamber and rest of the hive

The bees are in. But it takes sometime to collect out the honey. It's a waiting game.

Can someone explain how the honey harvesting process goes for this kind of hive?
What kind of spray do you b use?
What can I use to prevent the wood from roting with time?!

Wood was typically treated by linseed oil long ago for its preservation. Its the oil extracted from flax seeds.
Amazing...
Approximately how much honey does 1 hive yield per harvest
Thank you sir
Where do they put the hunny?

let's say you've made 18 bars. How many bars will go to the queen's chamber?
How much do you sell one
the width of the top bar needs to be exactly 3.2cm.
