Evgenia Obraztsova as Aurora & Andrei Merkuriev as Prince Desire in Sleeping Beauty. They were guesting at the Tatar State Opera and Ballet Theatre in Kazan in 2006.
Story: The Sleeping Beauty ballet follows the traditional fairy tale of Aurora and Prince Desire. An angry, left-out wicked fairy says that Aurora will prick her finger and die on her 16th birthday. Luckily, the Lilac Fairy still has a gift to give and changes the spell. She says Aurora will prick her finger and sleep for 100 years until the prince awakens her with a kiss. Before he sees the real Aurora, the prince has a dream about her, in which we see them dancing together. Afterwards, they meet and celebrate their wedding.

the greatest Aurora forever
This was such a welcome break from the drama of Supreme Court confirmations in the US! Genia always puts a smile on my face. I like some of the new Vision scene choreography. Was the choreographer for the more original bits named? Her energy reminds me of a remark I once heard made about NYCB's Patricia McBride: "If there are snakes in the garden, Patti will not speak to them," said of her kindly and positive nature. the purity is undeniable. classical ballet offers such a unique role in the realm of performance: a chance to present brightness, an alert sensibility and sheer, irrefutable joy.
Why is her last act solo sooo slow? It is supposed to be bright and sparkling not ponderous and dirge like. And I'm not criticising her dancing which is very pretty, but the tempo of the orchestra.
