  • Treasure Hunting at Santa Monica Beach with the Minelab Vanquish 540 which is a great beginner detector. Tested out the Xtreme Sand Scoop. Found silver & tried to save a seagull.
    First time detecting at this location. Had a decent hunt. Found silver and a cell phone.
    The Xtreme Scoop had some good points...
    It is lighter
    The scoop is bigger and catches more sand
    There are smaller holes in the center which traps more small items.
    It has a side handle
    Issues with the scoop:
    The handle is thicker and does take some time to adjust
    The side handle is slick plastic. Was strong enough but limited grip
    Since the scoop is bigger it is heavy when removing wet sand
    Also, the carbon fiber handle does flex with heavy loads. Hoping that does not become an issue.
    Finally, Came across an injured gull. Removed it from the water and tried to get it help. Unfortunately it succumbed to its injuries and was taken away by animal control. Sad!

    Love the new sand scoop Bill. Having that handle on their really helps a lot especially when you're shaking the scoop. I noticed a lot of the other guys are using that style now.

    Good for you, helping the bird. I recently cut a hunt short to rush a big sea bird to the wild animal hospital. I wish someone would have taken a picture...bird under one arm with his wings hanging past my knees, and all of my metal detecting stuff in the arm with the cast. And a 15-minute walk to the car. sheesh.

    You're new scoop is really good not only is it making lighter work of the trash, .. but it also captures the tiny stuff which is fantastic as not all diamonds are rock's lol, well done on saving the injured seagull, we are not allowed to interact with them in the UK as they have become very aggressive at the beaches,..and you cannot enjoy a picnic, as they attack you for your food,... and not just in the sea side town's, there more common than city pigeons,... and did you ever trace the owner of the phone? 👍👍🌞

    • @DigginSoCal
      @DigginSoCal  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not a good idea to interact with wildlife. My logo was created in his honor. As far as the phone, it was totally destroyed and unable to fire up. I contacted the company and they did not offer any help. Oh well, off to the landfill...

    Sure that was a 15-16 for the dime? Maybe I'm haven a brain cramp but don't recall any 15-16 dimes up here in Mi, I dig almost everything on our beaches, not many targets, but you can be sure mostly trash, jewelry a rare find, maybe a few Penny's, haven't hunted beaches much, but starting to think Michiganders hang on to their stuff pretty tight, got a love them tent stakes

    • @DigginSoCal
      @DigginSoCal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was getting a 15-16 when i found dimes...I thought they were higher too...but I usually hit the beach with equinox...will test it out tomorrow with coins and see what reading I get....
