Great video - thanks for all the effort. Love the colab. Stratus gear is reassuringly expensive. I have the Derek and it's all round awesome. Saving up for the Big D now.
I would never have thought a vid on camp tables would be interesting, just like I never thought Harry would have a big D. Perhaps some of the interest also occurred due to good old Fred turning up every now and then. Camp about 7 to 8 weeks a year and the cheap lifetime tables have served me well for many, many years. Just gave them to the kids and bought two more from Bunnings for only $39 each. I kept my favourite lifetime table which is solid with a foldout metal side for the two burner and garbage ring for a plastic bag... a great, practical table. Good to see the subs building... cheers.
He definitely didn't have a big D when I met him, must have found some magical pills through one of those shady websites he likes to frequent. Good to see some love for the Lifetime tables, your one with the fold out bits sounds like the winner!
Im blown away by the price of some of the tables you demonstrated. Ive been using the cheap kmart camp mdf tables and they work for me at around $20. Cheap enough to replace every few years
Yep a lot of the pricing is insane, especially if you're just car camping. Anyone buying HELINOX for anything other than multi-night hiking has too much money to burn.
I understand your point, but you surely understand don't people don't want to bother with thinking if the table will still last for this trip or not and want something for more or less a livetime, or only want one table for ecological reasons. Apart from that throwing away cheap tables also adds up...
I’ve set up my Hyperflame on my blowmould tables for years without any real ill effects. Less damage than rebuilding a bike engine did anyway. Everything I carry needs to serve at least two purposes. Most of my gear lives on the back of the ute and the blowmould table does an awesome job of protecting my gazebos bag from the tray floor, it’s great for separating the firewood from my swag, and can even do duty as a traction board. (Not the folding one). You can push it under your vehicle to lay on while you pull out the axle you just broke, and it’s a good table. Pretty good value for $50.
A table cloth changes a utility table to a dining table. My wife insists on bringing a couple on long trips that also get used as shades or wind breaks. I’ve been converted. The half steel and blowmold table is quite heavy. I also keep blocks of wood in the camper for leveling or jacking. These work for increasing table height for prep
Great video Alex. You’re a wealth of good and practical information as always. Lifetime make a 3 height adjustable small table that works great as a side table or a normal 700mm table. They are great for Webber mini Q or similar sized bbq.
After having 4 or 5 different camping tables i just ended up getting a smallish blowmold lifetime table and to be honest its the most practical, simplest, robust and cheapest table ive had. I run my cooker on it all the time with no issues, and its easy to clean, setup and packaway.
Just cruised over from Harry's pork belly curry video, really liked your light-hearted approach, straight to the point. Subscribed! Looking forward to your future episodes! (BTW I really liked that AroundFire table, just a bit dear and looks like we can't buy it locally!)
Yeah I'm enjoying the aroundfire table! They're pretty new to the market yeah, so you have to just go direct to their website. I did just get a 10% discount code from them today for my upcoming review so you can use that if you like! The link is in the description and the discount code is ALEX
Great rundown on tables, very thorough with a lot of viewpoints. I was wondering, it may be an entirely different video but dropdown and extension tables could be covered too
Incredibly comprehensive coverage, and I'm sure will steer a tonne of people in the right direction for a table that'll best suit their needs, rather than the first the comes on special at BCF before their trip. I ran one of the larger blow mould Lifetime tables for years but eventually got away from it because of the space it took up, as well as the weight and awkwardness of carrying it. Aside from that, as you covered, they have a lot of great features. I moved to a fold out Australian made barn door table which eliminates any need for storage and the height is as good as your lift. With that said, I occasionally desire a bit more table space and I've had my eye on the Stratus ones for a while, so will very possibly jump on one in future!
Another important point with the Bamboo tables: most (if not all those brands you mentioned) have a similar length-ways folding system. This means they pack away long and thin-ish, where as most moulded plastic or MDF tables pack away as a square. This is the main reason I've been looking at Bamboo tables, as they'll fit into the long narrow space I have available for them in my van.
I knew a contractor who did a lot of outback work. Week at a time in the scrub. His camping table was a full park bench picnic table he lifted around with his Hiab truck. Said it made a huge difference to quality of life.
Good rundown, I can't imagine using a fabric table, too light and unstable. Harry's Big D looks like it'd be very satisfying to experience. The Dometic bamboo table you featured is worth a look. Its held up well to dew, rain and even setting some hot pots on. Enogh weight to be stable without being too heavy to carry. Aluminium legs, metal hinges and clips. Pricey but we've gone through a heap of tables over the years and this so far seems sturdier. At least until we can get our hands around a Big D.
Wicked review Alex, currently running a small lifetime table but have been looking at upgrading, saw that Harry had the Big D table in some of his recent videos and was keen to find out more about it. As a 6’6” bloke, nearly every time I use a table I have to either bend over and break my back, sit down or kneel down to use it. Thanks for the comprehensive review
I bought a collapsable aluminum gazebo bench table from altegra. It has adjustable legs for my preferred 1.2m work height (0.9 to 1.3m). I replaced the slat benchtop with a piece of marine ply. It is perfect for fish filleting, cooking, beer bench and workshop use. Price is approx $300
As a mostly solo camper travelling light I find the shortcomings of a slat table are overcome by its price, light weight and pack size. I’ve considered many of the tables featured here (not the $500 plus ones) but I’ve stuck with the slats for the reasons listed. Appreciate your efforts to make these videos
Yes! I love the slat table too! It usually in my kit, but I do find the height for food prep and cooking sucks, and also it's sometimes a bit small, having a second one along would be handy
Thanks, great overview. Totally agree about heights and needing to bend over for prep. Have been looking for something like the stratus but with some adjustment for uneven ground.
Hey Alex. I’ve got a Zempire Bamboo round table. We use mostly to eat dinner off. The benefit is it folds up small for a round table and has individual adjustable legs, it’s also quite stable. Great vid tho mate!
@ it suits our needs as it’s only my wife and me. It has stepped positions rather than being able to lock it in any position so isn’t ideal for leveling. We lower it to use as a small drink/snack table between our camp chairs and raise it up when we have a meal on it.
Fantastic review as usual, keep up the awesome work. We use a combination of the 6ft bigold blowmold and the oztrail slat table which is height adjustable.
The other thing that people should consider are the modifications to the vehicle - the shopping trolley in back of shot has a couple of great examples that don't take up too much space but give you that stainless benchish height surface allowing you to opt for a cheaper/lighter table height table for eating and utility
I have the Quest blow mould you popped up. The mesh side is great for cooking and airing dishes on later. The table side is as slippery as hell. Your caterpillar will need rubber soled boots to stay on. The slightest angle and everything slides off. You need a rubber mesh on the table top.
Great video Alex. We now have two Quest outdoor tables. The Quest 4 which is our prep bench and a god send for the back. And we got the Quest razor 90, which is a one piece metal top. Perfect for sitting at for two people in camp chairs. And is very flat when packed up.
Thank you for your review. Height is critical, its hard to find a reasonably priced 900mm ish table. I've cut some dow up and put it in the legs of the blowmold tables, crude but effective.
Ironing board table FTW. Folds flat, strong, light, adjustable height, metal grippy/grid like top that’s heat resistant, broad leg supports that don’t sink into sand, can pick them up for nothing. We take 2 every camp
My main decider is if it fits in the space in the car. I like a bit fold table, but it needs to be narrow so it folds virtually under my ute shutter lid.
Gidday camper, I use the 50 buck bunnings white plastic top table, super lightweight for the table top space you get, 1.8m by 70cm give or take, goes on my roof rack, then can put other stuff atop of it and strap more stuff down, they are good for a few years before UV destroys them.
Hey Alex. If you do a different style tent review (pop up vs pole vs air pole), I’m happy to lend you our air pole tent to use for how ever long you need for a good review.
This is a great idea for a video! I might do a bit of groundwork on this idea and see how it might come together. Could you email me on alex@intenseproductions.com.au just so I can contact you directly? 🙂
I bought the large Adventure King roll-up table, and it's been worth its weight in gold. It's been set up and used for weeks at a time and is a great height for a big bloke like me (193cm), it weighs f all, packs up real small and takes about 45 seconds to set up (if you dawdle).
In NA - the iclimb brand offers good quality for compact @ budget price. The square aluminum one’s table top locks in so you can lift & move (a unique ability in roll top tables). Iclimb (& rock cloud) also make low (5”) picnic / backpack tables which if placed on most campground tables give you a very compact way to get counter height and an additional “shelf.” If I was to design any camp gear it would be a camp table that like lifetime - legs have 3 heights (coffee, table, counter height) - but would be easier to clean than the rough plastic and lighter/more compact. One reason why I have liked drifta kitchens idea because they understand including table surface.
I'd be interested in a review of veh attachable or attached tables. I've seen the maxtrax/ table on the the side of troops but these are obviously a very vehicle specific fit. But how about barn door tables or other alternatives. I'd been interested to see what's out there albeit feasible to do such a review. Mate, I'm glad you're back on the tube and these camping gear reviews are worth there weight in gold for the novice and not so novice camper / traveller. 👍 oh. Hi Harry 😅😂
Forgot to mention the enormous 4 segment Aldi table we sometimes use. It is HUGE, light stable and strong BUT as with all things Aldi, you can only get it when/if they decide to bring it in.
I don’t think you can go past the Lifetime blowmould that does all three heights and is totally stable. Sure it weighs a bit and can’t handle hot pans, but at AUD80 from BCF…
Tables, tables, tables, boy have we been through some tables over the years. I found those roll top aluminium ones to be the absolute worst. The plastic clips break and the elastic gives up fairly quickly. My favourite is one I got from Snowys, sadly I can' remember the brand and I'm not going to fish it out from the 4x4 just to find out but it is full metal, good height, and is a two fold style and was about $150. Very strong and durable. At the bottom end of the range are the $25-30 Kmart folding tables that you throw away if they ever get wet. They are actually ok if they stay nice and dry and are about the cheapest there is these days. The things I look for in a table now, after years of buying them and throwing them away: Good height, strong, heat resistant and as light as possible without being flexible. The legs are important too, they need to have proper ends to make the table stable and a bar across between the legs to stop it sinking in to soft sand. Great run down of tables, possibly the best I have seen.
Before I google "Where to get Big D" should I check my safe search is on? BTW, the extensions on the Big D table are extra... and, is the drying rack suitable and strong enough to put the stove on for a cooking surface? Do the 2 extensions (sink + drying rack) pack into the table also? Thanks for your reviews!!!!
😆 yep it's risky business that's for sure. After seeing some big D on the beach that day (when Harry was showing it off) I reckon the drying rack would be strong enough for a stove. And I wasn't sure about how they pack until I watched Harry's video this morning and saw him unpacking them from underneath as he folded the legs out so yeah! All packs pretty neat!
@Camping_reviews lol...and I bet there are even more silly ppl out there...look outside the box.....can get a custom table to one requirements made up out of alloy for far less ...lol
I feel like Harry’s tall new table was very much designed by someone who watched an old guy use a shitty fold ladder with the Webber on it. I use one with shit hanging on it everywhere like his table has. 😅
Blow mould 4ft table that folds works best for me but i would love a bench to suit but they old come in 6ft which doesn't fit Anyone know of an option?

Could be that my stove is just poorly heat shielded underneath. Or cooking longer meals, I've done a few multi-hour simmer meals like stews so maybe that's what did it in.
@ happens especially around the ones with fire pits in them. One fire in it and it’s burnt off all the coating, couple days later will be covered in surface rust.
That intro was ridiculous lol. Thanks for brightening my day

You can level the table by digging an appropriate depth hole with a shovel or the heel of your shoe.

@ food prep not a major issue. I’m not worthy to wipe Harry’s tables in that regard. 😂
Great timing. Was just looking at tables yesterday at BCF and Anaconda.
Great review and job with this will be a great help in a couple of months as we are looking at getting some of these esp the big D
Such a helpful channel and unbiased reviews. Thanks Alex
Have a fabric hike table from aldi
Works well and I use it in my tent as a bed side table.
Strart here after f2f 😂 my fav TH-camrs is a good morning on the toob 🎉

Thanks, great overview. Totally agree about heights and needing to bend over for prep. Have been looking for something like the stratus but with some adjustment for uneven ground.
Anything with sand is a delicious meal.
Thanks for the effort mate. The hunt for a camp table continues.
Hey Alex. I’ve got a Zempire Bamboo round table. We use mostly to eat dinner off. The benefit is it folds up small for a round table and has individual adjustable legs, it’s also quite stable. Great vid tho mate!
Seems to be a theme common only to zempire that individual leg adjustment. Do you find it as good in practise as it sounds in theory?

That's a damn near perfect combo I reckon. It's often 4ft folding blowmould and the slat table for me, unless I'm too loaded to take the blowmould
@Camping_reviews we find the extra space on the 6ft very handy
The other thing that people should consider are the modifications to the vehicle - the shopping trolley in back of shot has a couple of great examples that don't take up too much space but give you that stainless benchish height surface allowing you to opt for a cheaper/lighter table height table for eating and utility

Non slip mats from Cole or Woolies are cheap and usable for stopping rattles, multi purpose is the way to go.
Great video Alex.

Man those waves made me want to go to the beach

That's the aluminium slat design one hey? A very good balance in weight capacity, pack size and setup time 👌
@Camping_reviews yep aluminium slats. It's very sturdy too, one of the best quality products AK stocks atm.

I would love to see a review of jump starters and preferably one that lasts more than 1 or 2 years.

A decent table is CRITICAL for any camp site.
probably the easiest method i could think of was just getting a kmart folding table and putting a sheet on thick aluminum on top
Just when I thought I knew tables, another great video
Hey mate loved the video, would you do a review of the biolite stove aswell as a stove comparison/shootout
Stove buying guide is in the planning stages now 😁

Wow 😮 $600 too $900 for a camp table?
Great review Alex. Goes to show how silly some ppl are 😅
I bet there's even pricier ones out there 😬
@Camping_reviews lol...and I bet there are even more silly ppl out there...look outside the box.....can get a custom table to one requirements made up out of alloy for far less ...lol
waiting for the roadside cleanup ironing board........
I feel like Harry’s tall new table was very much designed by someone who watched an old guy use a shitty fold ladder with the Webber on it.
I use one with shit hanging on it everywhere like his table has. 😅
For Aussies don't ever buy anything like this from a camping store before going to Kmart and BigW first. The price differences are massive.
Absolutely. I was about to link the Lifetime Folding kids table to anaconda but then checked bunnings. $149 in anaconda, $89 at bunnings!?! 😧
Blow mould 4ft table that folds works best for me but i would love a bench to suit but they old come in 6ft which doesn't fit
Anyone know of an option?
Am I crazy or is heat not much of an issue as he mentioned with blowmold? I've been cooking on one for two years, gas burner, pan on it, no protection underneath. Zero warping or issues.
Could be that my stove is just poorly heat shielded underneath. Or cooking longer meals, I've done a few multi-hour simmer meals like stews so maybe that's what did it in.
@@Camper_Guide. You could put a large silicon mat under the cooker to protect the table from heat.
Looks like the Stratus 900mm table is in a league of it's own. I can't find anything else as high as it.
Absolutely. A couple of the questions blow mould tables come near 900, but the stratus is the only one I've seen 900 or above
12:47 those steel mesh tables are such a scam. The mesh is to thin and rusts out in under 12 months. Needs to be stainless mesh I think.
I've been trying to give this one an extra good flogging, lots of salt water and sea spray so I can give it a thorough review.
@ happens especially around the ones with fire pits in them. One fire in it and it’s burnt off all the coating, couple days later will be covered in surface rust.
