I only just found this series after all this time ! Absolutely great, really well presented, down to earth approach

Loving these still Nick, the French had the right idea preserving or re-creating the old boats, so many of our native boats have gone now. I agree with jack they don't seem dated and my dad who is now 88 is loving watching them as it reminds him of our times doing up my old boat, and it takes a lot to get him excited these days...

Great series Nick. Thanks you so much for all the effort you've made to bring these to YT so those who didn't have the chance to see them the first go around. Maybe it's the subject matter but they don't seem dated at all!

Paimpol does indeed have a stone boat carved from a lump of granite and they paddle it around the harbour playing bagpipes

Blimey Nick - how many of these are there? I'm reminded of the amazing year my band Florida played at Douarnenez. I'm not clear on the dates, but do remember my daughter Ella (about to be 21) being about four at the time... So I'm trying to work out whether your filming trip would have been the same year, or two or four years later.

Hi Gavin, that was the 2002 Festival. There are fifteen episodes in all. The last two are linked, as we cross the North Sea in a Square Rigger.

That /was/ the year we were there. It was a stunning event and a truly bonkers experience and I still have some stories about it. I vividly remember an elderly chap in a beautiful British yacht saying: 'I don't like sailing much, really, but I do like arriving. French festivals look after you so well and you can go from one to another all summer.' duckworksmagazine.com/02/articles/douarnenez/index.htm

I feel reminded of the Hornblower novels.

learned to sail on a Sharpie in Rio de Janeiro as a kid in the early 60s. Kiki was her name. She was kept at the Caicaras Club on the Lagoa. Hence, my name here. I, too, am enjoying the Sharpie project. Going to share this channel with my brother. Here is the old Kiki with me holding her off at the bow.

In previous videos he's using polyurethane glue, which foams. Not sure about this one.

3:57 there's a bit of expanded urethane which squeezed out the end.
But it's black from the tube, I've never seen that, I thought it was a Sikaflex at first which made me stratch my head. But then again I believe this series was filmed in 2002.
Personally I never had much success with permanent adhesion with the Gorilla Glue brand here in the U.S.
That being said, the is a beautifully sick minor detail that not only deals with the joint between topside and deck on a effective way but also makes the whole thing pop.
He's a bit of a wizard with his attention to detail and the skills to bring his plan to fruition

I've only got sound in the right channel, which is not ideal with headphones...
