I observed this toxicity in K-pop fans first, later I realised that this is normal for Indian celebrities as well. As a Telugu person, it's disappointing to see Tollywood fans wasting their time and fighting with others. Fans shouldn't lose their self respect in the process of worshipping a celebrity, instead admire their good work, get inspired from them, and hold them accountable if they do mistakes.
But one thing about kpop fans is that they cancel their celebrities pretty fast if a k-celebrity gets caught doing drugs then their career is doomed since s.korea has very big problem of bullying so many celebrities get accused of being a bully during their school times and most of the times they get kicked out of their group and then they have no chance in the industry whereas in India you can easily get away with these things
Agree but I think it's there life they are free to do what they want to do unite it is out of limits because im also like to debate with fans about anime and sports but I know the difference between debating and abusing
I had a similar experience. I was obsessed with BTS around 2 years ago because I had some personal issues and they helped me escape from reality. Then after one year of being obsessed, when the issues where finally resolved, I realised how unhealthily obsessed I had become. I still listen to BTS, but I'm not obsessed with them anymore. :)
As an ex celebrity idolizer myself (from korean pop culture) these methodologies are similar to how kpop managements keep their fandoms hooked and obsessed. You will also observe such manipulation tricks from popular commentators like Andrew Tate. I just hope the new young generations are more aware and self confident so they can avoid getting emotionally manipulated through entertainment media
Just today I read some news that few poor girls loved BTS/Kpop so much they almost tried to travel from India to Seoul without telling anyone, and luckily they were rescued. Why are so many people (especially I feel girls) becoming crazy die-hard fans of Kpop that they would do anything for them?

I am huge kdrama fan . But i never follow any celebrity. I enjoy and watch dramas. Sometimes defend korea as a whole when someone unreasonably hates them. Sometimes j don't even know their real names.
Actually, toxic fan culture is much worse than this. As a South Indian, during my school days, my class was split in two groups: Vijay fans and Ajith fans(there were some students, who didn't side with either of the celeb including me, the two groups ignored us since we didn't spew hate on either of the actors). There were fights everyday on which actor was better compared to the other. The two groups would try to find the faults in the films and tease about it to the other group. And this toxicity was even in my college, with more intense fights and quarrels. My classmates bunked classes to watch the first shows of the actors and pride themselves as the biggest fans. Rajinikanth fans were obsessed to the point that you could frequently hear news of some fan dying while worshiping(pouring milk and doing puja) Rajinikanth's very large cutout, some fans go to temple barefoot, climbing many thousands of stairs, so that his movie becomes a hit.
I don't regret subscribing you Mohan. I really wanted a content on this topic. I'm tired of seeing toxic fans either downgrading others or forgetting their own existence. Parasocial relationships are ok in an extent since there are a lot of people in whose life their fav celebrity might be making an impact but to take that admiration to the level of obsession is worst. "Be a fan, but not a devotee" PREACHHHH🙌
that's really pathetic! obsession is always fatal. but in that case media were literally blaming BTS and calling them a "drug", it's not a way we solve problems, is it?
I wish you had mentioned some extreme examples as well, like fan fights resulting in death. In 2016 I remember a fans fight in tirupati over who's the best (NTR or Pawan Kalyan). Their fight ended with the NTR's fan killing Pawan Kalyan's fan. Here's the ridiculous part, both of those guys were friends. Toxic Fan culture in South India is like a virus that is plaguing South Indian population.

Never was anyone's fan even in my teenage. Always felt why should I be crazy for someone if he is not for me. Raise yourself that people follow you, rather being a follower, and worse in celebrity -fan kind of relationship , where you get nothing in return, except some fake happiness.

As a K-pop fan myself, I can vouch for the fact that parasocial relationships are a big thing in k-pop fandoms as well. I focus on the music and memes now mostly but I have to admit, I also went through that phase. Not necessarily a romantic parasocial relationship but a deep admiration. I am also not saying it's bad to like someone in the media but when it's taking up a lot of your time and distracting you from your work, it's an issue.
I appreciate your work Mohak. One of the best videos on relatable topic in social issues. I had one of friend of mine who was in that bhakti vala trap of Taylor swift Calling themselves "swifties". The truth is a huge chunk of our people live either deeply unsatisfied lives or lives full of stress thus this escapism through their personal "Heroes". Thus, remain satisfied with your life and you will never become an over obsessed fan of anyone. Love from haryana brother 💙. Ram Ram 🙏
There was this dialogue from Mirzapur: *_"neta banne ke liye gunde paalna seekho, gunde bano mat"_* and that's what this fan culture is all about and it's free.
I am saying this from experience, the most important part of being a fan is getting self-satisfaction. The fact that my favorite celebrity is getting success and popularity or doing something good gives me a satisfaction that I have made the right choice by supporting that celebrity, which I may not get from anything else in my life. That's why when that celebrity does something terrible or says mean things, my first attempt will be to defend him/her and ignore that flaw as much as I can, so that I don't get hurt. If that doesn't work, then I would get disappointed and try to ignore that celebrity completely. So in a way, fans also use the celebrity to get self-satisfaction or self-validation, which is why there is immense pressure on that celebrity to maintain their public image.
But isnt that illogical ?? Seeing your celebrity become sucessful gives you satisfaction BUT what does it actually give you ? Shouldnt you be more concerned about your own sucess ? shouldnt your sucess give you satisfaction rather than someone else's . Specailly when that person doesnt even know that you exist ??
@@Kai-ps6lh Exactly. That's why its so irritating, because human heart does not follow logic. I don't want to get attached to someone who doesn't even know me, but still happens and I can't even help it even though I want to.

Since I was a small kid I used to see people calling themselves " FAN " and doing certain things . But I couldnt relate to them . I mean yes i might like an actors acting/personality but I cant be his fan and worship him . As most of the people have totally different personalities when on camera and when off camera . Some actors are seen as gods and have a very positive image on camera with millins of fans BUT THEY ALSO ADVERTISE AND SELL GUTKA AND PAN MASALA for money . And craziest thing is that people still worship them . This really made me think hard about general people mentality , Some people just have low critical thinking . My sister is one of them , She always worships some public figure . And I often tell her that its okay to like someones work but worshipping them is not okay . After many debates and arguments she finally accepts and guess what after 5-6 months she again starts worshipping some other public figures . This led me to believe that some people are biologically vulnerable to these things . Its not that they chose to be like this but its what their brain tells them to . . And in India this idol worshipping is on some next level . This video is a living proof of it . This video has 1.2 Million views with just 60k Likes and 2K DISLIKES . I mean at the end of the day its survival of the fittest , If some people have vulnerable brain you can either ignore them or exploits them .
As you said yourself, the cause of this is poor psychology and low self esteem + high unemployment and overall bad quality of life in India, that's why it is such a bad problem in India. Yes it exist all over the world but not to such extent, in only exist in India.

As per AI: The word "fan" as we use it today to refer to an enthusiastic follower of a sport or celebrity has an interesting etymology. It's a shortened form of "fanatic," which originally referred to someone who was excessively enthusiastic or devoted to a particular cause or belief. However, the origin of "fanatic" itself is even more intriguing. It comes from the Latin word "fanaticus," which meant "inspired by a god." This word was associated with people who exhibited frenzied or ecstatic behavior, often in religious contexts. So, while the modern use of "fan" might seem less intense than the original meaning of "fanatic," the underlying concept of passionate devotion remains the same.
In a Tamil TV debate show called “Neeya Naana”, husbands who are part of actors’ fan clubs proudly stated that they sold their wives’ gold jewellery, money saved for their kid’s education /wedding to mass book opening day tickets of their favourite actor’s films 🤦🏻♀️ The wives were also present & they looked broken.

Summary: Admiration/ getting entertained by them/ liking a movie or the actor/actress is completely okay. But getting into a trance where the fans think that their life's mission is to love a celeb who doesn't even know you exist is surely a psychological problem that needs to be adressed. (but in reality, no one gives a fuck about it) Though this channel's goal is to explain India using evidence, it happens in every other country too! Let's be honest, in India it's a bit extreme 😂

You can find such t0xic, obsessive fandom in the West & Kpop too. Look at the Swifties & Army. They take it to the point where they cyber bully their “idol’s” real-life partners. Nowadays, the para social relationship is happening with the viewers of TH-camrs, Tiktokers, etc. I’m from the south, I would rank Telugu>Tamil>Hindi in terms of fandom toxicity. In the south, most major actors try to leverage their fan base into political currency. Example, Pawan Kalyan, MGR, Kamal Hasan, now Vijay.

Fan groups can be both good and bad. On the positive side, they foster a sense of community, shared enthusiasm, and can provide a platform for creative expression. Fans shouldn't lose their self respect in the process of worshipping a celebrity, instead admire their good work, get inspired from them, and hold them accountable if they do mistakes.
Kalyan Babu cult chupincharu ga fans😂
Kpop is even more toxic than bollywood
But one thing about kpop fans is that they cancel their celebrities pretty fast if a k-celebrity gets caught doing drugs then their career is doomed since s.korea has very big problem of bullying so many celebrities get accused of being a bully during their school times and most of the times they get kicked out of their group and then they have no chance in the industry whereas in India you can easily get away with these things

Without the grouping and the attention that comes with the fandom, it wouldn't exist.

Exactly what I think too.
They perceive themselves as the actor itself. That's why they immitate the way the actor behaves.
There was this dialogue from Mirzapur:
*_"neta banne ke liye gunde paalna seekho, gunde bano mat"_*
and that's what this fan culture is all about and it's free.

For me, this is total madness. At the end, these so-called celebrities are also made up of blood and flesh, why admiring someone who doesn't even know you exist? Admire your parents, your teachers, your friends, your life partner, who somewhere, somehow teaches you and make you a better person day by day, rather than bootlicking these so called idols.
Admiration is okay. You could admire a certain individual's art, their thoughts or their achievements. Fanaticism, on the other hand, is not.
Agree..
I agree with half of your opinion that We shouldn't be bootlicking (andhbhakt)of celebrities but, what's wrong in admiration??

I always had this thought about crazy celeb worshipping and fan culture in India in the back of my mind and here you are making a video of it. You really have a great sense of choosing some interesting and novel topics. Looking forward to your next videos 👍

Mohak Bhai awesome video. I have always wondered why people become such die hard fans since I have appreciated an actors craft in a particular movie but never been idol worshipper for tht particular actor
Very well researched video Mohak and a very important and good topic!
legit topic , Mohak bro!!! love that someone is focussing on these behavioural aspects of our country!!!
This was a very important topic. Thanks for bringing it up.
If I may point out one thing out of respect, one of the tactics mentioned in the video of the celebrity sharing personal things has been employed on this channel as well, hasn't it?
Bro you spit real facts man. Really respect you for your work. We need more people like me and you in our country
Finally someone made a video on this.. I am glad such creators are still there. There is still hope
Finally!!! Someone has talked about it.
5:00 i am kinda attached to anime that way.... does it count?
I understan the para-social relationship between entertainmenter and fans.
But i never knew they went to this length that they work kinda like an NGO just to promote their stuff.
That is wild.
I dont understand this whole culture but I never couldve imagined it couldve been this big.
Thanks bro for this video.
fan culture is very dangerous ...you can admire and also follow somebody ..but such hysteria , that you lost sense of yourself and forget to deffrentiate between what is wrong and what is right is really harmful ..what if those idols are wrong or preaching wrong things then what .- then it becomes more toxic to whole society ..vulnerable people pay the cost for this toxicicty
14:04 Literally agar aise donations NGOs ko kiye hote toh kitne logo ki zindagi me diye lag jaate
Go deeper in knowing about fanclubs they organise blood donation camps and different donations
As per AI:
The word "fan" as we use it today to refer to an enthusiastic follower of a sport or celebrity has an interesting etymology.
In a Tamil TV debate show called “Neeya Naana”, husbands who are part of actors’ fan clubs proudly stated that they sold their wives’ gold jewellery, money saved for their kid’s education /wedding to mass book opening day tickets of their favourite actor’s films 🤦🏻♀️
The wives were also present & they looked broken.
I understand the behavior of men in their 20s who earn less and have not much responsibilities to get obsessed with an actor but why will a grown up man with family responsibilities behave that way
That's actually scary
@@radhe3920 omg you'd be surprised how many adult men with families of their own neglect their family & career to spend their time & resources on a "star" who wouldn't care a hoot of they died.
@@radhe3920men should be taught financial responsibility.... We always criticize women, but it's the men who keep splurging on unnecessary things
Summary: Admiration/ getting entertained by them/ liking a movie or the actor/actress is completely okay. But getting into a trance where the fans think that their life's mission is to love a celeb who doesn't even know you exist is surely a psychological problem that needs to be adressed. (but in reality, no one gives a fuck about it)
Though this channel's goal is to explain India using evidence, it happens in every other country too! Let's be honest, in India it's a bit extreme 😂
best comment bro
Not only celebrities but politicians and some bureaucrats also have this type of toxic fan culture
Why are you not talking about the "toxic" BTS army ? 4:41 ?
The army who has made Rahul Gandhi go wth?
16 year old girl in Kerala died addicted to K pop
Melisa's death ? Who's there to question these deaths
Im not trynna say that loving bts is a crime or something like that
Each fan should know their limits
they will not listen bts is drugs that can kill anynoe if not used properly its ur probelm if u seached their name once there is no going back
You can find such t0xic, obsessive fandom in the West & Kpop too.
Can't agree with you more!!People in south India are so much obsessed with these actors that they think if a he is a good actor then he will also be a good politician.
@@gayathri33135 that's because most commercial big actors play the role of a "leader" who represents the people, fights corruption & crimes, etc. People don't understand that just because a person can play the character of a leader, doesn't make them qualified to be the political executive.
True, I am not saying it's not in india, but most people in comments think that this country is worst and all bad things are filled in india and insert self inferiority complex, it's reflecting in all these comments I have read, it's just as bad in west and east asia
@@JuneKafaltiya yes, I wish most Indians would understand that most problems are universal. Mohak sometimes also phrases his videos in a way that makes these issues "exclusively Indian". That is at best ignorant or at worst intentional.
@@Azulaozai._ South fan are obsessed with their heros, and they are mature enough. In the swift fan and k-pop fan they don't create any wrong activities, like murder other hero's fan and trolling each other and also don't destroy cinema hall
Fan groups can be both good and bad. On the positive side, they foster a sense of community, shared enthusiasm, and can provide a platform for creative expression. However, they may also lead to excessive fanaticism, conflicts, and sometimes toxic behavior. It largely depends on the values and behavior of the specific fan group.
chatgpt ke reply ki tarah lag raha hai ye comment 🤣guess i use too much chatgpt!!
Fanaticism is more related to religion or politics
True. Kerala had this toxic culture years ago where fans of Mohanlal and Mammootty would clash and degrade each other for no absolute reason.
A lot has changed over the years and Both of their communities are now mostly charity organisations.
I never saw this coming. Hats off to you Mohak. I think we have had it enough. It's high time that we boycott and aware others about it.
This is just crazy to see this fandom. TBH, these celebrities don't give a f*ck about their loyal fans. They literally don't give a crap about it.
To address toxic fan culture, it's essential to promote positive communities, implement effective moderation and reporting systems, educate fans on the impact of toxicity, and engage with positive role models.
boycott is not solution for industry there are thousands of technicians workers and artists who work in industry
I mean boycotting these so-called influencers. @@Daredevil009.1
Boycott is not a solution i feel as not inly those celebrities but other ppl are working behind it so it will affect them and no effect would be on those celebrities as the have enough money that they can live their 2 more lives out of it
@@starlight14673 true boycott is nonsense it will only effect theatre workers technicians and junior artists srk Salman Amir Akshay ranbir Ranveer mostly have businesses and earn from brand endorsements and investments
