I find that so weird. Sony killed his franchise and yet his new game is being developed for PlayStation. I mean the game doesn't have fanservice in it but still
The Ikkitousen game series was first to do all these things before Senran Kagura and they're made and published by the same company Marvelous, they range from the PS2 and PSVita games. Sadly they're all in Japanese no translation, the PS2 version almost got a translation, but the PS2 life cycle was ending so it didn't get localized.
Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is actually quite a gem. it actually has really fun arcade style action gameplay with a surprisingly high technical ceiling if you choose to go for it. A solid amount of content and replayability, and just good fun. I haven't played Origin yet because I wanted a physical and it seems to be insanely priced so i'll just grab it digitally later. Hope that series doesn't die.
Not sure if anyone else already mentioned it but the bullet girls series though I think you have to import them the most recent one bullet girls fantasia is in English
Taimanin is a bit of a different beast though. Itmight also be about urban ninjas, but it's violent, it's sexually extreme (contortions, body modification, electric fetishes) and it's also a visual novel series first, with only 4 gacha games to its name.
I think what I'm mostly looking for, not just Dynasty Warriors style combat, but games with clothing destruction in general. It seems I'm struggling to find any.

Cool alternatives, that much I can admit. But I'm still holding out hope for the inevitable next SK game, even if Marvelous is out of the picture. Tamsoft (a major developer of the series since the first game) can still make a game, but with a new publisher (and co-developer). There's all kinds of alternatives to Marvelous (some even better) and the hottest games they made. For instance: Koei Tecmo (Team Ninja recommended) (Dead or Alive) Compile Heart (Neptunia) Idea Factory (same as above) Capcom (Street Fighter) Sega (Sonic, Virtua Fighter, etc.) HuniePot (HuniePop) Matrix Software (Omega Labyrinth) D3 Publisher (same as above) Any one of these could pick up Marvelous' slack.

Excellent stuff! :) Thank you for this video, sir. *Edit: I haven't played it myself, but "Bloody Spell" seems cultured and possibly a little wonky. If anyone's tried it, please do tell.
If this was not mentioned, then I highly suggest checking out Aquaplus's Dungeon Travelers. It's actually a dungeon crawling rpg with visual novel elements. It's doesn't compare with Senren Kagura's game play, but it's fan service is top quality. Also, Dungeon Travelers 2 and 2-2 just released the other day for pc as it was a Vita game before.
i love the Akiba's trip games, they aren't the most engaging in terms of gamplay but they have a unique charm to them. though for undead & Undressed i'd wait until the Director's cut edition comes out as it's adding a whole new ending to the game
Loved Valkyrie Drive on the vita wish it was ported to the switch. One game that recently reminded me a lot of senran kagura was Samurai Maiden. Really did enjoy my time with the game.
I did watched that show on a laptop when i was like 14 years old, and OMG i'm speechless that it was meant to be lesbian... *Literally my first time witnessing LGBT!*
I'm glad someone mentioned Samurai Maiden. I was gonna comment on it but thought I'd check the comments first lol yeah I actually really love it. Trying to beat it on hard mode. it's a game that is helping fill the void in my heart of Senran Kagura's absence.
Dragon's Crown is amazing, also I'd put Fight 'n Rage in there, amazing combat and a lot of sprites making liberal use of jiggle so it's not hard on the eyes either.
Recently I finally got my hands on Onechanbara Bikini samurai squad for xbox 360 and can say its a really fun game however there's a few things to note: 1. Frame rates dip and drop a lot when too many enemies are on screen and being attacked 2. Screen tearing happens at random but imo it adds to the aesthetics of the game 3. a lot of the story is told in the star wars dialog fashion which is really annoying because the voices are Japanese only so your forced to read or just skip it all. Other than those things its a really fun game and I recommend it. Really wish it got ported to pc so the community could fix some of the issues.
Oneechanbara is pretty fun. Vortex should be good (360) and Revolution (Wii) is a headache because of controls. It’s basically the same game. I recommend Z (JP exclusive), Z2, origins. School Girl Zombie Hunter is fun when it works right. Top vid as always.
Soul Calibur 6 with 2B DLC, Street Fighter 6 is pretty eye pleasing as well. Both let you create your own character. Fight 'n' Rage is another beat 'em up that wears it's fan service on it's sleeve.

Here are a few Steam games that haven't released yet but could maybe help fill the niche a little bit. "MaguSphere - Magical Cannon Girls" - Extremely cute arena action beatemup game with cute girls that can destroy a lot of stuff. "Homura Hime" - Another anime beatemup that's more about stylish cool looking anime girls. "Machina of the Planet Tree: Mugen Ouroukaku" Another anime beatemup game with more so fan service and cute looking anime girls. No Steam page but there are a few short trailers for it on the developer's TH-cam. The developer has released other "Machina of the Planet Tree" games on Steam before, so just keep an eye on the developer by following them on Steam by searching for the title of the series, going to one of the games and then clicking on the developer page. But man, Senran Kagura itself really needs to come back.
Keep an eye out on 2D beat em up games such as Maoden Cops and Eromancer. They're indie and currently in development, but look promising, especially the fan service.
I did not know about Sonicomi! Just added that to my Steam wishlist! Another game people might like woyld be the Bullet Girls series. The 1st 2nd games are exclusive to Japan on the Vita but the 3rd game in the series "Bullet Girls Phantasia" had an asian english releases for the Vita, on Steam, and PS4. Lots of great gameplay and fan service in those games!
Onechanbara is one of my favorite series. It shares the quality of all Tamsoft beatemups of being tragically underappreciated, considered trash, and ultimately hiding a fair amount of superfluous depth and refinement in it's combat. They are the type of games that at first seem janky but oddly appealing, and become better the more you play them.
For a ninja themes third person beat em up game I guess "Mini Ninjas" fits the bill, as for an anime side scroller beat em up there is "Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds" though I heard the PC version is not well supported, If you just want to punch ppl there is the ever popular "Yakuza Series". AKIBA'S TRIP: Hellbound & Debriefed was also ported to PC but reception is mixed since apparently it's even more clunky. IDK why YSN would mention Bayonetta and forget to mention Devil May Cry, but it is already wildly popular so I guess most ppl already knew.
@@flameshana9 I mean the whole video is kinda just trying to make any connection to Senran Kagura, none of the fighting games are remotely close to the SK games, even saying they have fanservice cuz they have skimpy outfits is a stretch. At least MN and SK are both Ninja themed third person beat em up games.
I think people need to remember that senran kagura isn't "dead" it's just in purgatory. Senran Kagura 7 was announced years ago, but we don't treat other franchises similar to Senran Kagura. Most game franchises will have weird developmental cycles, South Park the fractured but whole released in 2017, and they are releasing a new mainline south park game this year, nobody thought the South Park game franchise was dead though. Senran Kagura is in an awkward position, given Sony's recent obsession with censorship, even mainstream and non-niche games like doki doki literature club have been censored, and it got censored for VIOLENCE (yes, the violence, the same platform that allows mortal kombat 11) even Microsoft and Nintendo didn't censor DDLC. But, I'm sure one day the franchise will continue, it's not dead until they specifically state it is dead, and anything that could get censored on Playstation could just be per-platform as they could allow that content on Steam and Nintendo.

I'd vote against the latest DOA titles unless you are on PC and yar har har. It's like fucking $2000 for everything, even now. It's not worth it in the slightest given how bare bones (get it?) these games get. Without many game modes, it's basically spam arcade. I can say that Soul Calibur 6 is far more affordable (when it comes to being a modern fighting game, compared to others, it's a drop in the bucket, even compared to Dragon Ball Fighterz, which is like $300~$400 now or some shit), another affordable alternative is Tekken 7, has some straight up waifu material as anyone should know by now. Honestly, it doesn't matter which you choose if you are on PC, online isn't really worth it unless you want to fight cheesers and tryhards with shitty netcode (9/10 they usually do). As for anime-styled fighters? Uhhhh, I'm too busy with JRPGs to have looked into it to be honest, and a lot of them are crossovers that barely have any content (likely due to the agreements made with the copyright owners). This is specifically regarding fanservice or waifu material mind you, I don't count MHA for example even though it's "mid" when it comes to outfit selection (as someone who literally has everything, don't get me wrong, there's some nice ones, but it's not anything HC, regardless of the censorship mind you, yeah, it's still "mid"). (P.S. I've been staring at Ryza's ass for the last week while running Ryza 2 cause' when Ryza 3 was released I decided to run through the whole series. I adore it all so far.)
@@Klaxynd I wouldn't consider that, or any of Gust's games, only a few of them actually contain "all DLC". There's some limited time costumes for instance that have never been re-released, so you essentially have to opt-out of these if you pay. This is regardless if you get the "Ultimate Edition" or not. There's also Japan exclusives that were never released state-side, so yeah, it's kinda bad in places, you are effectively paying for less content. If you already bought it once and enjoyed it, I wouldn't recommend a second time unless you can accept that (I sure as shit can't accept buying a lesser product, yar har har, shiver me timbers mada faka). I'm still running through the games on Switch, I'll move to PC eventually, I've got a lot more on my backlog.
I haven't played it yet, but Samurai Maiden dropped last year and it looks like it could scratch the SK itch. It's a bit pricey and the gameplay is apparently a little clunky though. Regardless, I'd like to support the game so it can become a franchise with better gameplay in the future.
@@ShadowCthulhu The localization was actually changed waaaaaay back in late December through a patch on Steam. Dunno if it was applied to the other releases of the game though. The only censorship is an oddly specific thing with panty shots in the photo mode. Dunno why that's the case, but it hardly ruins the primary experience.
Ended up importing the physical version on Switch and finished it early this year. The game itself is pretty solid the dedicated 3D platforming sections were a neat surprise, and for what the game is they did a really good job of them. In saying that the standard price is a little too steep but if you saw it on sale at around 20% off that's a good deal.
I've been hoping yellow would do an actual review on these games for years since I've seen other youtubers cover content from them. But we got this very general overview instead, which is a start. Lol

Onechanbara is a good series. However, the gameplay feels dated in Bikini Zombie Squad and Bikini Zombie slayers feels kind of repetative(haven't tried the psp game yet). It start's to feel more modern in OnēChanbara Z: Kagura(japan only you can import the PS3 version since it's region free). Which came berore z 2. The series has a good ost as well.
I'm surprised that Samurai Maiden didn't get a mention. Also I'm still trying to understand why the mainline Senran Kagura games aren't on Switch, the series after all started on the 3Ds.
Yeah, SK's pretty much done with marvelous going woke and series creator leaving. Pretty sad too, the gameplay's good, the music's great, characters are memorable, and don't get me started on customization.
I think the only reason Sony was okay with Stellar Blade but not Senran Kagura is because Senran Kagura is more stylized which causes them to look cuter and Stellar Blade has a more realistic artstyle and causes everyone to look older. It sounds stupid but I can imagine that someone at Sony is dumb enough to think that a realistic artstyle makes something/characters more mature than a more stylized artstyle.
i know this is old, but as much as these games are cool i feel like none of them reach the same heights as doa, especially the ones by the same devs. idk it lacks the smooth gameplay and can feel more jank than senran. altho doa 5 reaches heights in other ways like mods support. like i said i know this is old, but closest i felt to some senran kagura feel would be zzz, is a gacha but fanservice/mod support is good and the action feels very smooth and enjoyable.
I saw the Valkyrie Drive anime while playing the Vita game a year or two ago. It might as well be hentai. There's a lot of full nudity and the characters' powers activate by sexually assaulting each other, it's wild.
There's a scene where there's a whole troup standing still militar style, and just as they're done receiving orders they immediately star hugging and french kissing each other so they can fight. That shit had me in tears. Wild show. Catchy af ED song.

What really pisses me off about Kenichiro Takaki abandoning the series is that the dude is still a sony fanboy, what the heck is wrong with him.
I find that so weird. Sony killed his franchise and yet his new game is being developed for PlayStation. I mean the game doesn't have fanservice in it but still
It's sad most people think Senran Kagura is only about the fanservice. There is a lot to the game and it's a pretty good vibes and funny game overall.
Did the fans translate it. If not then we need to bring it the attention to fan subbers to do an English patch.
You have reopened the wound :(
Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is actually quite a gem. it actually has really fun arcade style action gameplay with a surprisingly high technical ceiling if you choose to go for it.
The closest thing I can think of is the Taimanin franchise, also female ninja fight demons.
There is also a Senran's mobile gacha JRPG Game, but it was released only in Japan and also in Japanese.
Taimanin is a bit of a different beast though. Itmight also be about urban ninjas, but it's violent, it's sexually extreme (contortions, body modification, electric fetishes) and it's also a visual novel series first, with only 4 gacha games to its name.
You are a man of culture thank you
Muramasa is amazing. They need to re-release that one
I think what I'm mostly looking for, not just Dynasty Warriors style combat, but games with clothing destruction in general. It seems I'm struggling to find any.
Only ones I know so far are Soul Calibur and Nier Automata.
@@EmeraldTaurus96 And those are both great examples. Valkryie Drive also has it, Gun Gun Pixies does too...plus like ONE Neptunia game...but other than that, I don't know too many...heck, I'll even take some mobile games. XD
@@darkstarz-inc7386 We need more games with this mechanic. It's sad we have to look for mobile games for cute attractive anime characters without censorship. And those aren't guaranteed either. One update/patch could take it away.
Great vid as always. I would just like to add to the list Gal Gun Pixies.
You mean Gun gun pixies right?
Surprised not to see Neptunia U on there, or maybe bullet girls
I really wished marvelous moved the series to the switch already
The fact that the video is age restricted shows its a good video 😅
All the cultured people gather here periodically, great place to find them together and say "hello my fellow" 😁

Also I'm surprised you didn't mention Neptunia U.
Hack and Slash and the Dress Break cinematic.
What do you think about the trend of Japanese games being censored/fanservice being toned down happening in recent years?
I'm sure everyone here can agree it needs to stop. Bring back the glory days of Playstation!
@@flameshana9 They need to get out of California and fire everyone responsible for that all the bad decisions over the past few years. And there needs to be an iron clad policy against censorship and they must publicly denounce and disavow censorship, period. If they want to redeem themselves, they need to make sure this isn't going to to happen again.
i think we need more fan service today is a bunch of snowflakes making dumb rules
For instance:
Koei Tecmo (Team Ninja recommended) (Dead or Alive)
Compile Heart (Neptunia)
Idea Factory (same as above)
Capcom (Street Fighter)
Sega (Sonic, Virtua Fighter, etc.)
HuniePot (HuniePop)
Matrix Software (Omega Labyrinth)
D3 Publisher (same as above)
Any one of these could pick up Marvelous' slack.
Doing the Lords work.
Thanks for the cultured video!!
Nice vid, as always!
I'd be interested to see a video of your thoughts on onechanbara, I had never heard of it till right now but it sounded interesting enough
It'll happen. I recently bought the Xbox 360, Wii, and highschool spinoff game.
Excellent stuff! :) Thank you for this video, sir.
*Edit: I haven't played it myself, but "Bloody Spell" seems cultured and possibly a little wonky. If anyone's tried it, please do tell.
My brain read that as 🅱️🅾️🅾️🅱️y spell
You missed Bullet Girls Phantasia on the PS4 😂
Thank you sir, I will go get that from Playasia right now
Thanks for the video! I can only hope for more culture in gaming and less ESG
Thought on NSW's Seven Pirates H?
That thumbnail is neuron activation incarnate, you my friend, are indeed a man of culture.
Dragon's Crown is amazing, also I'd put Fight 'n Rage in there, amazing combat and a lot of sprites making liberal use of jiggle so it's not hard on the eyes either.
Recently I finally got my hands on Onechanbara Bikini samurai squad for xbox 360 and can say its a really fun game however there's a few things to note:
1. Frame rates dip and drop a lot when too many enemies are on screen and being attacked
2. Screen tearing happens at random but imo it adds to the aesthetics of the game
3. a lot of the story is told in the star wars dialog fashion which is really annoying because the voices are Japanese only so your forced to read or just skip it all.
In terms of beat em ups.. this game is really old and an ff7 fan game, but Tifa tan x2 is a good one.
Man, it's been like a decade or more since I heard that name.
I see, You're a man of culture as well!
Forgive me o father, for I have sinned
That's what Sony should be saying.
I’m surprised you didn’t include Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed in there, which is a hack and slash version of the franchise and clearly an attempt to compete with Senran Kagura games on Vita at the time.
I'm very surprised you didn't mention Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed, MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptunia VS Zombies and Drive Girls for the PS-Vita. And Neptunia Virtual Stars for the PlayStation 4 all of these games share a lot of similarities to Senran Kagura. Are you familiar with the "Musou" genre? Because Senran Kagura and a few of its contemporaries is heavily influenced by it.
you familiar with his channel? Lol
@@B1az1ngSuN I wouldn't be here if I wasn't? Let me guess this sounded a lot smarter in your mind right?? Should have kept it there because it added nothing.
@@TooSweetMeBro take it easy mod

@@TooSweetMeBro im late but would you recommend drive girls i got a vita recently to play the older neptunia games and i was thinking of ordering drive girls online since you cant buy it from the shop for some reason.
Also unrelated but nice pfp noire ia best gil
@@kingkilla777 Without completely dumping on it Drive Girls is entertaining but in small doses. When compared to it's contemporaries it lacks quite a bit of the content you would enjoy in games like Neptunia, Senran Kagura and other niche titles. And for that I personally wouldn't recommend it which is ironic to say because I actually own it and haven't played it all that much. If money is no object I would recommend you pick up all the Neptunia and Senran Kagura titles for PS-Vita. Because they both offer so much more then Drive Girls does and thanks for the love bro Noire is my favorite!
But man, Senran Kagura itself really needs to come back.
just noticed that this video was posted during 6/9 💀
Nice thumbnail 👌
What is that jet girls game you breezed over at the beginning??
Kandagawa Jet Girls
Very weak game from what I've heard.
Keep an eye out on 2D beat em up games such as Maoden Cops and Eromancer. They're indie and currently in development, but look promising, especially the fan service.
Do you have any Senran Kagura recommendation as a first Senran Kagura game to play? Thank you.
Most likely Burst Renewal, as it's a remake of the original game.
Onechanbara Origins is super great! I had the 360 and Z2 as well. I miss my Senran Kagura ladies though…
Thanks bro

Played oneechanbara origins this year, really liked the rythmic combat. Can recommend👍
Onechanbara origins is great
I think onechanbara Z2 chaos is better
They also did a movie that I enjoyed as well
we need more fan service forget about these snowflakes today
Didn't you do this video before? I remember a very similar video with pretty much the same games.
Sakura Wars?
ah yes thanks algorithm for a video on alternatives for a game series I NEVER PLAYED
I have the Onechanbara live action movie. It's amazing.
Still play the mobile game version to this day even though I don't understand what they're saying or the descri text.
DMC has near-zero fanservice tho
@@Lisa_Minci96 kinda hard to have fanservice with Virgil looming over you.
@@ryanw531 very true
Mini Ninjas is pure, cute simple gameplay. It's not really like Senran Kagura though.
Samurai Maiden and Taboo Trial.
As always, great video! I've reviewed several of the Senran Kagura alternative games from this list!

We seem to have similar taste in games and while our video styles are very different, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Im surprised you didnt mention Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed.
Its basically a Senran Kagura game, but in the neptunia series
Yeah I have been playing Ryza 2 as well. I think I may buy again on PC for… reasons. XD
@@mitrikgaduk347 That's why true men of culture play with mods on a pc. The community provides way more than any dlc ever could.
I haven't played it yet, but Samurai Maiden dropped last year and it looks like it could scratch the SK itch. It's a bit pricey and the gameplay is apparently a little clunky though. Regardless, I'd like to support the game so it can become a franchise with better gameplay in the future.
Just sucks that they butchered the translation and added censorship.
@@pedreiva indeed it was, not sure if they patched the console editions. Yes that is a weird thing to do for censorship.
Thought it was going to be great but I wasn't impressed at all. In fact I was very disappointed by the overall quality. Sorry.
The best options right now for Senran Kagura fans are Neptunia and Samurai Maiden.
I've been hoping yellow would do an actual review on these games for years since I've seen other youtubers cover content from them. But we got this very general overview instead, which is a start. Lol
Which games in particular? I reviewed the majority of games shown in the video.
@@YSN i generalized my comment too much when I really only meant onechanbara and Bayonetta, those were the two I had in mind while making the comment but I forgot revise and specify my thoughts before hitting send, sorry.
No worries, I was just curious. Don't know about Bayonetta yet, but I'm definitely going to talk about Onechanbara in more detail. I recently got a few more games from the series (Xbox 360, Wii, and High School Zombie Hunter, specifically) to try out.
No one seems to know of the existence of Huuma Mina, Cinderella Escape, and She Will Punish Them. They exist.
Cinderella Escape is pretty ass tbh
Surprised you didn't mention any dating sims when you left the genre for suggestions.
So thats what this game is, looks a lot better than the fanart.
If we can have stellar blade on psn then we should have senran kagura to .

I wonder if you're willing to take a step further and cover games that have action but go further beyond just fanservice.
