One thing the weather here in Houston will do is keep us on our toes. Last week I was anxious about all the rain my young roses have gotten. This week I'm worried about all the heat. ha! Your gardens are looking beautiful as always. I bought some bee balm and had no idea how fragrant it is. I love it!
I saw the first Eastern Tiger Swallowtail in my garden yesterday. Yeah! I like that you mention weeds in your videos and don't hide that there are weeds too. You inspire me. Do you get Zebra Swallowtail? I just.planted a Paw Paw tree and get Zebras in August. What.makes your birdbath bubble? Love your videos. Thanks.
Ooooh! Every butterfly I see feels like a gift! I’ve only ever seen one zebra swallowtail in my garden. What a thrill! How fun you’ve got a pawpaw! I swear I need 10 acres of land so I can have all the trees I want! I always knew I was obsessed with trees, but lately, I’m obsessed with native Texas trees that *might fit* in my yard! 🤣🤣🤣 The birdbath actually comes apart and has a little pump in there between the large and small bowls.
Out of curiosity, why don't you grow more passionflower? I live over in springbranch, and it is my most dominant host plant for caterpillar activity. Also, thank you for all of the great content. My husband and I love watching your videos together and especially enjoy seeing Mrs. Doubtfire. I was hoping you could talk a little bit about her origin in a future video.
Hi! I just started growing passionvine again last year. It can get out of control if you never have any caterpillars, and that’s what I had happen at my previous garden. I purposely didn’t plant any in this garden when we moved here in 2009, but a stowaway came along anyway in one of my pots. It eventually smothered all the climbing roses it possibly could, and I spent a bunch of time and energy digging it out (for like a year!) SO, now that I have new goals with my garden (butterflies!!) and I chose a sortof contained spot for the vine, I’m trying it again. (It’s so so fun having all the caterpillars!!) Since I’m having zero luck getting anything to grow on the fence along my driveway, (across from where it’s currently growing) I’m thinking of trying passionvine there as well, but I’m trying to be mindful that my neighbor might not want it popping up in HER garden on the other side of the fence. So for now, it’s contained along the house, but I expect it will swamp my climbing roses there if I’m not careful! (They don’t look terrific anyway tho! 🤷🏼♀️😜) That’s a long answer to a short question! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m so glad y’all enjoy my videos, and the Mrs D content. I’ll add her backstory next time! Great idea! Spoiler alert:it involves her showing up unannounced in the backyard with ** F I V E ** kittens in tow! 🐈⬛+🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛=6!
Thank you for such a thoughtful reply and I look forward to hearing about her story soon. Regarding the passionflower, I can't seem to grow it fast enough for all of the caterpillars but have noticed it likes to spread its feet a little too freely.
On your short pink salvia, it could be one called Summer Jewels Pink. I purchased one last year from a little garden shop in Chapel Hill Tx called the Bluebonnet House. I was looking for a pink salvia that didn’t get massive. It bloomed beautifully all summer in an afternoon dappled shaded area here in Houston while the coveted Coral Nymph did not. Maybe that's what yours is.
Ooooooh that could be IT! It does seem to bloom all day, where coral nymph kinda closes up during the heat, then looks pretty again in the evening. I think I’m liking it more than coral nymph!
@JosTXGarden for me anyway the summer Jewel is my preference over coral nymph. However right now I'm having a white fly problem on all salvias. At first I thought it was spider mites but when I hit them with water, I see the little white flies. I've chopped them all back. Time for the Chelsea Chop anyway.
I have so many questions 😂, one more, where do you get pelagoriums? They are different than geraniums correct? I think they are so pretty but I never see them anywhere
Yes! Different things! I get them at Cornelius nursery in the spring. I’ve seen them at Buchanan’s once or twice also- in their greenhouse, I think. But again, only in spring.
Oh my goodness! I have SOOOOO many plant supports in there! Sometimes my plants get too tall and/or too heavy (especially after a rain!) that the supports can’t keep up! 😕
I think that pot would definitely be happier in more sun! I need to move it a bit! I’ve got mosquitoes, but I’m one of those weird people who don’t really attract them, or have any skin reaction if they do actually bite me. My poor husband and kids are eaten alive. Me, not so much! 🦟 😒

Houston weather is bananas!
Oh, I just love bee balm! Don’t be afraid to dig a chunk up and move it when it wanders. It’s tough!
Charming as always.
Aw, thanks so much! 😊😊

It's very hot in ft Lauderdale too my butterflies are loving my garden it finally rained last night .
When it rains, it makes me forget how mad I am that it’s hot! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
love the rain!

Yes! Exactly my situation this year! Not enough leaves, but quite a bit of wandering around and popping up 10 feet away!

I’m getting ready for a The Chop soon! 🤣
❤❤❤
😉😉😉
They say lance-leaved coreopsis should be dividend every 2-3 years, so it does not die back in the middle like that. 🌼🌷🌼
Ohhh! Good to know! I’ll definitely divide it in the fall when it cools down! Meanwhile, I’ll just live and let live! 🤣
I have so many questions 😂, one more, where do you get pelagoriums? They are different than geraniums correct? I think they are so pretty but I never see them anywhere

Do you have all of those pots hooked up to drip?!
No drip!
@@JosTXGarden that’s impressive! Thanks for your answers, let’s pray that this heat isn’t indicative of another rediculous hot summer
Oh my goodness! Right? Ugh. It’s already sweltering.
Couldn’t you support your plants with those green plant supports?
Oh my goodness! I have SOOOOO many plant supports in there! Sometimes my plants get too tall and/or too heavy (especially after a rain!) that the supports can’t keep up! 😕
I think yellowing leaves is a sign of overwatering.
I think you’re exactly right. I’ve overwatered that olive tree pot! Thanks!
I thought gomphrena likes full sun , maybe move it to a sunnier spot?, aren’t you getting eaten alive out there? I’m afraid to go out!
I think that pot would definitely be happier in more sun! I need to move it a bit!

So glad you didn’t have the terrible flooding where you are but sorry you lost a tree.
