Love it! I have painted it as a mural on the kitchen table, it is the best beach scene I have done so far, lol , thank you, I enjoy watching you paint.
Really, What a beautiful painting work and it is looking like a original waves is coming front. I am also trying to do the oil painting work, but I didn't started the work
I have never tried this medium before. Found the paint but not the gel/linseed oil. I’m in Arkansas USA and none of the online art stores has them. I’ll find something because I just have to try this painting. My sister in Ocean Shores wants seascapes and this one is just awesome. Love the way you teach.
Hi Debbie, thanks for your feedback - it's great to hear that you enjoyed the tutorial! Unfortunately we no longer stock the water mixable gel medium, but we'll pass your comment onto our team for future reference :)
Joe, this one is amazingI love every single aspect of it. I have been watching your videos for 4-5 years and I just want to say thank you for motivatng and inspiring me through all these years. There is something about you and your bubbly personality that changes my perspective towards painting, and that is instead of looking at it as a time consuming activity, but more of a fun way to express your emotions. Once again, thank you so much. I'm looking forward to more painting tutorials in the future. Kisses from Indonesia
Hi Shaquillive, thanks for the encouraging comment! its very rewarding to hear that the lessons are helping people not only with the technical side of stuff but their outlook as well because this often overlooked. As long as people are still enjoying them I'll keep making them OK lol. Peace and keep on painting :)
I love, LOVE this painting !!! When I first saw the picture, I thought, 'Oh that must be the photograph the artist will be working from'. No, it was a picture of the actual painting !!! Stunning work Joe, you truly are a gifted man :)) Thanks so much for your all of you videos and tip.
Thank you for sharing your talent! Im a beginner and really learned a lot doing this painting. Almost finished and so excited to hang this beauty! So excited to start my new love!! Your work is amazing! Hello from California!!!!!
Hi Sabrina, its great to hear from you. And I'm really glad you have found your new passion. Painting is a great friend to have. Good luck on your journey :)
Brilliantly Gorgeous!! Recently found your videos and I am so amazed and speechless at the same time. So wish I could learn to take my art to this level. Awesome work!!
Hi Miriam nice to hear from you and thankyou! for the encouragement. I think you will be surprised at what you can achieve if you persevere. A lot of people fail because they give up to soon or allow self doubt to creep in. Joe ;)
one of your best videos!! outstanding job! the patterns of your foam were stunning! i prefer acrylics so this will be a real challenge with oils. Keep on painting! have a great day 👍
Hi AmAnDa, cheers and you could try this with Acrylic, there drying rate would make smooth transitional blending difficult is all, an the subtle transitions of the under painting layer are kind of a large part of the overall effectiveness of this project. But thats not to say it could not be done. The WMO's though have no odour. I think they have the health benefits of Acrylics but the versatility of Oils. Thanks for commenting. Joe
I cant wait to paint my canvas. I bought the materials at artshed last WEEKENd . Ive always wanted to try oil painting 🔥 and yours inspired me to give it a go :)
Thank you. Currently painting this as a wall mural in my game room. However the sea foam inside the wave is kicking my ass. I painted til it was complete. Stood back and relized it looked even worse standing away from it. Lol. Anyways painting over sea foam and tryi g it again.
aaaah que bueno que hablas español, asi puedo hacerte una pregunta. Es puro oleo lo que estas usando en esa pintura de las olas 🌊 y cuanto tardas entre capa y capa que aplicas. Bendiciones y gracias
Absolutely love this painting! It is so beautiful. I am a beginner using acrylics. It appears you are using oil paint? I love all your work, you are an incredible artist.
Hi Shavauna, thanks for the kind words. Its actually created with Mont Marte Water Mixable Oil Paints. These are true Oil Paints but the paint can be cleaned up and thinned with water. :)
Hi there, on average the water mixable oils take around 24-72 hours to dry to the touch depending on conditions and thickness. Regular oil paint takes approximately 48 hours - 6 days to dry to the touch. Hope this helps!
Hi Debbie, thanks for your question! There's probably a bit too much blending in this project to use acrylic paints (it would mean you wouldn't be able to create the same effects) ;)
Awesome just loved it but plz make ur video slow so v can do it along with u it will really help bigginers like me and many more who want to learn from u
I tried water based oils last week first time (I’m normally water color or acrylic) and a week later it’s still wet. Halfway into your video you say yours is dry, what timeline did this painting take?
Hi Debi, thank you for your question. The H20 Water Mixable Oil Paints dry at a slow rate because they are true oil paints. On average, they should become touch dry from between 3-6 days. This wave painting was done over a couple of weeks, so don’t worry, they will dry. It' worth noting that the drying speed of each colour may vary because the pigments react differently to the oils and other ingredients mixed with them (Titanium White will dry the slowest). The ambient temperature and humidity can also slow down or speed up the drying time. We hope this helps!
MontMarteArt thanks so much for your thorough response. I had no idea oil was this slow. Normally a Watercolor Gal, this is a bit frustrating only because I didn’t know...perhaps I can change my strategy to paint many paintings at a time that all dry at different times. So you somehow label a paining what date you last painted? Otherwise, like an impatient cook do you keep putting the toothpick in to see if the cake is done?
Hi Debi, you're welcome. Yes, having a few painting in progress allows you to keep working while you wait for the others to dry. This also allows you to have some time to contemplate each painting and look at it with fresh eyes. To test if the paint is dry enough, you will need to gently touch the coat from time to time. The slow drying time is worth it when you consider all of the blending options this medium offers. All the best!
Hi Rodvince, all our canvases come primed and ready to use, so we didn't need to prepare this one with gesso before we got started. We hope this answers your question!
Simple You when we look at hands of master it always looks pretty easy until we try it our self..it takes long time to become master you’re self,to make things look easy..good thing if we keep trying and insisting eventually we do learn and become good.so just keep painting
Hi Israna, thanks for your comment! Yes that's right - we've used water mixable oils, water mixable linseed oil, a double thick canvas and a range of paint brushes. You can download the full material list here if you're interested: www.montmarte.net/mont-marte-tv/view/how-to-paint-a-realistic-wave-with-h2o-water-mixable-oil-paint
Hi Israna, it's great to hear that you're giving this painting a go! To stop the colours from mixing, you will need to make sure the layer underneath is dry before painting on top of it. The reason your colours are mixing, might be because you're painting the top layer a little too soon and the bottom layer is still a bit wet. We hope this helps!
does this have that pdf link like the duck one does? internet is often pathetic where I am so having the printouts is fantastic. thanks for taking the time to help out beginners like me. any change of a horse tutorial? (just being cheeky)
I love your painting and sympathetic advice ... like "ignore those voices of self-doubt", "tedious" aspects, etc.
Utmost blessings!

How long does the H2o paint take to dry compared to normal oil paint?

Hi Rodvince, all our canvases come primed and ready to use, so we didn't need to prepare this one with gesso before we got started. We hope this answers your question!
MontMarteArt Thanks, but I just bought the Mont Marte acrylic paint instead. Its a bit simpler to use.
