I agree with avoiding the gambling side of investing. It brings in more emotions and I try to have my investments be as far from emotions as possible. I allocate 0% to speculating.
For me my strategy is 90 to 95% of your total liquid investments in index funds and ETFs, and the rest of the 5 to 10% in speculative assets and single stocks, but OF the 5 to 10% no more than 5% to a single stock. Meaning 5% of the 10% to a single stock, so that further diversifies my speculative asset mix, so that 10% will be divided further into like 20 different single stocks.
Example, a portfolio of 1million, 10% is 100k, 5% of a 100k is 5k, so no more than 5k of the 100k goes to a single stock or speculative asset. 100k/5k thats 20 single stocks you can speculate with of your choice.
