In Leicester, Council extreme cleaner Sid and his crew are gearing up to clean another abandoned house for the next resident to move in. Sid’s seen his fair share of filthy homes but this one is worse than most. The place is a rubbish dump but the real kicker is the rancid smell - the place reeks! Dead Rats are scattered around the property and if that wasn't gruesome enough, the place is crawling with maggots!
Because he's paid by the amount he cleans a day, Sid pushes himself to the extreme. Knocking, chucking and kicking anything that stands in the way of him finishing a job, with no concern for his own safety. It’s a tough job for tough people but for these Grimefighters, it’s all in a day’s work.

I just started working pest control and had found a dead Norway rat in a crawl space stuck to a snap trap and a bike chain. The smell was HORRIBLE and when I picked it up it had maggots eating it and falling out of it and the head popped off in the claw snap trap. I don’t think fear is the word for what I have now for rats and maggots

Legit why I clean everything when I move out of a place. The walls, floors, carpet. This way when the next person comes it’s ready to live and when going to a new place it’s good to have a record of being the clean tenant
These guys are absolute heroes. I'm not sure I could stand some of the things they have to see and deal with. I hope they get paid well, they definitely deserve it.

...it used to be a real hazard back in the day - kids all played outside and old fridges had _latches_ on the front which could not be opened from inside.

Thanks for making the fridges safe. I remember ada on TV when I was young telling kids not to play with or climb into fridges because of the suffocation danger. Used to hear a lot more about it 60 years ago.
That's because old fridges used to have latches that could only be opened from the outside. Newer fridges are just magnetic, no danger of becoming trapped in them.

I'm a council tenant and couldn't be more grateful for the property I'm in. I've never understood why ppl leave them in such squalor and filth.
People suffer from depression and mental illnesses that stop them from cleaning. They are too depressed that they lose all motivation. Some can't even get out Of bed. I hope you can understand that.
That explains these issues, but doesn’t justify almost destroying an apartment, and possibly even harming the properties nearby (pests, smell, vermin). And the kids that have to live with parents in a house like this.
When your illness actually harms people and places around you who don’t deserve it, there comes a point where that’s not enough to justify your actions. At a certain severity, It explains it but does not justify it, though obv there are levels where it explains and that is enough.

He said at the end that the house was let immediately. How could it have been - after they doing a great job getting rid of all that unbelievable rubbish it still looked awful. Probably still full of maggots and only bare floorboards etc.
After the extreme cleaners go in they probably had some decorators at the very least make it decent. They also sanitise it so there’s no way they left bugs behind. There are other episodes where the house looked too bad after the cleaners came so a council man came round and said that they need to replace the white goods. I’m sure something similar will happen here
